Just making a point. Greg didn't transfer from Millard High School. I would think he enrolled in the 1st, or maybe even kindergarten for all I know. Can't answer for the others, but appreciate their talent and abilities. I'm sure there are others at Belfry that never have been mentioned as well.

Im sure your right Five-O, so there is no need for the two schools to bash each other about the transfers that they both have been able to benefit from. I hate that the competition is not as competitive as it once was. The 87Pikeville team is the best team I ever played against and the wars for the four years I played against Pikeville was always intense and very competitive.

Agreed. Hoping that one day it can get back to that high level of competition again. Yes, that 87' Pikeville team was really tough. Don't think there will ever be another team like it at PHS, at least in my lifetime. Good luck to both teams this season.

they wouldn't be because yogi cant coach em...and WV football is weak, Belfry is a top three team in the whole State and Im giving the benefit of the doubt. Even Pikeville Could be a top ten team in West Virginia.

This is the most ignorant comment I've ever heard regarding Belfry football. 1) Belfry is NOT a top 3 team in KY, let alone WVa. 2) You may think just because the teams in Southwest West Virginia are weak, doesn't mean the entire state is.

slow down there a tad Badman,i cant speak for him but just reading whats there,it looks as to him saying Belfry would be top 3 in the state of WV,because he also states even Pikeville could be top 10 in WV.i also think they would be top 3 in WV (overall)

Actually the second part.... I disagree with you. West Virginia football is probably one of the weaker states in America. Look what Johnson Central and Ashland have done to some of WV's top teams. On any given year Wayne is one of the Top 5 overall teams in WV and they are very similar to Belfry.
A look at most national power rating would also support this. If Belfry were in the Mountain State I have no doubt they would be in contention every single year for the title even in WV's largest classification.
With that said Belfry is usually around a Top 15 overall team in KY in their strongest years and I haven't seen a single Belfry team I would consider to have been Top 10. That statement is definitely far fetched, but I completely agree that Belfry would be one if WV's best on any given year. The only team consistently better than the Pirates would be Martinsburg. They would compare closer to a team like the level of Collins or a CovCath.

I wouldn't say Logan or Chapmanville or Tolsia is on part with teams like Capital or Huntington or George Washington. Just like in KY I wouldn't expect the Pirates to play with a St. Xavier or Bowling Green or other school in a metropolitan area. Please don't think I'm comparing KY to WVa football, especially with classification difference. I'm just making a point to the original quote, I'm all for believing Belfry is a top 15 team in the Commonwealth, not top 3, but I would agree with 15-10 on every other season.

I'm ready to vote on coach of the year again...right now Haywood has my vote....waiting to see what coach Haddix does in Corbin...I need to tell my Belfry friends if I have any Corbin maybe the real deal in the west.....Beside Leslie County, belfry is my all-time favorite football team.Good Luck ....love to see Corbin vs Belfry in 3A Championships Game...... And it may happen Remember me 64SUR...... :truestory:

They are not. But those same teams aren't on par with Belfry.
Belfry definitely is on par with capital Huntington and GW in most seasons though... If not better.
Belfry is nowhere near the level of the Top 4 or 5 teams in KY most years. Typically the Top 3 teams in KY are able to compete with most teams nationally and Belfry isn't close to that level.
I don't want to put the cart before the horse and there still is a looooong way to go, but the talent Belfry has in their 9th and 10th grade may be their beat shot to enter the discussion as a Top 10 team. Even with this elite group I can't even see Top 3 status as viable... Once again a lot to prove before then.

Alright when you can complete a sentence in a proper from, then maybe people will be able to understand you. I'll still stand by my previous statement. Also, if you're going to try and insult my fluency skills, please capitalize the start of every sentence, the work "I", any state or school name, minimize comma splices, and use proper punctuation.

That's just the tip of the iceburg, if there is any school that should not cast stones its Pikeville. I could see where there mad, what was once a good rivalry has become homecoming game for Belfry.
Bobby Deramus family actually moved here for work from Texas. No issue there
Chad Thornsbury went to Pikeville AT LEAST from 6th grade on
Robbie Simpson I believe transferred while in elementary school too. I'd have to look
Irregardless, most schools in Pike have benefitted from transfers in all sports. It is just more for the trash talking that we all enjoy.

I'm not in the transfer argument just clearing up about Robbie. He went to Mullins in high school before transferring to Pikeville, but Mullins lost their football program in '87 I believe.

LOL, Stay Classy. The irony in this debate above is that most
of Martinsburg's students come from Maryland, so Hey! That would
be a good game since we'd have a battle of the out-of-staters....
On a more serious note, Happy 4th of July Bluegrass'rs !

Not hearing a whole lot yet. I would say it will pick up in a couple of weeks. Talked with Coach Mick last night at the fireworks and he said the Pike County Bowl will undergo changes over the next year or two. One night will be Pikeville and Belfry palying teams at sites rotating between the two and the county schools playing themselves if they agree, on some other night. Pikeville and PC should play the first matchup every year and then Belfry versus whomever, but they really want to get away from bringing in too many outside teams. The Pike and PC game would be great if the higher ups at PHS will allow it. That part is just my opinion. Most people who act like they know what is going on believes PCC would jump at the chance to play PHS each year. But who knows. Then Belfry play a good regional team each year would make for a great Pike County Bowl IMO. Otherwise, Coach only has real concerns about the secondary and in his mind as long as that O line and Fullback are healthy, then the Pirates will be ready to roll again.
