I would like to say we will know alot about Pikeville when they play Hazard, but the truth is, Pikeville's defense hasnt really shown its true colors the last few years, until the middle of the season. They were involved in some shoot outs early on last year. I think ther defense will be improved this year. Especially upfront, which is where they needed it most. Offensively, the should be fine. I think the Panthers and Rams are on a follison course this year. Paintsville, imo, is still a year away from making serious noise, with Phelps out, they will have to rely on Belcher too much. With Daniels at QB, Phelps wouldhave been a great target in the screen game. So I think Pikeville is the too dawg in or region this year, atleast going by what they have comig back+a few new additions, and the question marks at Raceland, Fairview, and the what ifs at Paintsville. What is the starting line up goina look like for the Panthers?

I agree Pikeville defense hasn't shown there true colors until mid season but I think last year it didn't really show up until playoff time. They did hold Raceland to 14 points but the only scored 3 which surprised me.

I Don't see hazard being any good this season....But I can see Brandon Jones having a big,big night. Pikeville goes for another 50pts in this one. nicker:

64, Paintsville could beat the burg with you coaching Paintsville.

Easy now mysonis55, bullying is a chargeable offense. Besides, even though my friend 64sur is a democrat, he is still my friend.

Pikeville best years in the late 90's. the line was tough and the plays were tight.Pikeville can gain momentum if they bring that line in tighter.

I'm sorry , but Pikeville's best years were in the late 80's ( 87, 88', 89' ) Three State championship yrs. The line was big, fast and strong, and played tight. The right guard, Tim Honaker in 1988 had a bench press of 500lbs. Btw, Pikeville was the 1st team in the state to win three in a row.

Without a doubt the greatest years for Pikeville football. Those teams are unbelievable to watch on film!

Their is no disputing Pikeville legacy. I recently watched the championship games, thise Pikeville teams were absolutely stout. Some of the biggest and fastest lineman I have seen outside of NKY private schools. They didnt rely on size though, fundamentally they were extremely well coached. Were they 2A then or still single A? I dont think that Pikeville is far away from getting back to that point. McNamee is a great cosch and surroundshimself with great coordinators and position guys as well. From what I hear Pikeville has a rather tallented group in the feeder system. Had their line been a bit more seasoned last year, they would have been much more capable of winning the region. Raceland's line was just built for the conditions at Raceland that night. I have a good feeling those two teams are set to do battle over the next several years. Paintsville may make some noise as well, then you have Fairview and the what if's there. As for now, Pikeville and Raceland are the class of the region. Hated to see the regular season series end.

Yes Scotty Bronson, they were extremely sound and well coached, and fundamentally as sound as you would see anywhere in those days. They were competing in class 1-A during those years. As far as I can remember, the only time they participated in two A was either in 1979, and, or 1980. They lost to Ft. Campbell in the championship in 1979. As far as getting back to the level of the late 80's, I don't know. Heard someone say in the 88' championship celebration "there will never be another team like this one here at PHS''. Since then that person was correct. Just hope he's proven to be wrong one day, ha ha ! I too hate to see the regular season series end for these two storied teams. Good luck to Raceland this Season.

That's great. I love to see kids stick together through hard times. Pike Central has a real chance to be scary good this year.

What will Pikeville's line look like this year? Who do they return?

Remember the name Caleb Skeens

It was no secret that Calab was working with Pikeville towards the end of the year. Thacker already confirmed it. If Pikeville lands Skeens, they'll be an even more legit contender in 1A. However I'm not sure the implications that may follow his departure.

^Pikeville makes sure a kid is eligible. Also I can see if a player would want to transfer if ER doesn't have a coach in place yet. Don't know the situation there. Has a coach been hired and if not when will it happen?

Understandable on both parties. To my knowledge, East Ridge has not hired a head football coach as of yet. I assume it has to be before Monday though. Best of luck to Caleb no matter what color he wears next season.

I would venture to say, that PCC may lose more and more kids from the program. Even if not to other schools, some may just choose not to come out. Having a consistently competitive ball club like Pikeville, that has High academic marks as well is a big deal though. If they dont hire anything more than an interim HC, i expect the Panthers to get a few more between now and next season. What r the district lines like between the two schools? Can Pikeville kids transfer to PCC without moving and visa versa?
07-09-2014, 04:02 PM
Until recently, a kid that lived within the Greenup Co Lines, could attend any of the schools within the County. Now, transfer rules applied, but for the most part, going from one school to another within the county, kids didnthave any issues playing ball as soon as they got enrolled, as long as it was before the beginning of the season.

And the same goes for East Ridge.
