1A Spring prognostication
Williamsburg will be there, I believe they will have an excellent chance to win, Williamsburg lost less players than any one I know of in the state. Faster, Bigger, Smarter.and Experianced.
Williamsburg is and should be the favorite in the east. With that said, they have a similar make up to the LCA squad from 08 and 09. 08 they managed to make it to the dance, lost, then in 09 thy managed to win the title. Idk if this Wburg sauad is as good as that LCA state champ team though. I just have a gut feeling that Pikeville is going to shock some people. The east is goina be a battle for sure. Dang! Is it August yet?
All this excitement for football in a basketball state. UK will not approve.
Lol. If they give Stoops enough time, UK Football will improve vastly. If he can close the borders each year and start getting some GA, FL, and AL 3 and 4 star lineman, we can become relevant into the BCS in a few years. Given time, Stoops can really turn things around, imo.

LCA didn't make it to the finals in 08. They went in 2007 and were beaten by Beechwood. Hazard went in 2008 and were beaten by Beechwood 14-7. 2009 LCA beat Mayfield 55-12(?). Then Hazard went in 2010 and 2011.
No UK will never be relevant in football.

My bad. Got my year crossed up. The year I was thinking of was the year Raceland went 12-0 until they had the rematch with LCA in the Reg finals. Raceland let by 3 or 4 scores at half time. Then took their foot off the throttle and tried to run out the clock, that decision will probably forever haunt Randy Vanderhoof. Raceland had their first ever number 1 state ranking, 2 1500 yard rushers, 1 1500 yard passer and a 1100 yard reciever. Couple with a defense that only gave up over 100 yards of offense in 2 games. Both being against LCA. Would had loved to have seen a Raceland/Hazard or Raceland/Beechwood match up that year. That was 08 i believe. Somehow I let myself get focused on LcA when my intent was to compare Williamsburg to that Raceland team.
That Hazard/Beechwood game that year was a good one.
That, imo, was Raceland's best team. I think that was the last year that the top 4 teams from a season, were so closely matched. Raceland, Beechwood, Hazard, LCA. All games among the schools were decided by 10 pts or less in the playoffs if im not mistaken. I think this year could end up being similar.
I personally like the way it has shaped up the last 2 years and 3 of the last 4 years.
I bet you have. U guys hae enough hardware to melt down and sale to the government to get us out of debt!lol In all seriousness, Mayfield is an outstandig program. I have alot of respect for you all. Through all classifications, The Cards are among the best in KY. Hate to see you all move up in classification. It will make things more competitive for the most part. But imo, u gotta beat the best to be the best. For over a decade Raceland lost to NCC or BW. Only to watch them go on and win it all or atleast compete to do so. I think KY needs 5 classes. Thatd give the "bubble" teams the ability to be within a reasonable classification. I still think there needs to be a "King of Kentucky" playoff. Extend the season 2 weeks:

Rnd 1
1A v 2A
3A v 4A
5A v 6A

Rnd 2
Classification goes out the window with a blind draw to see who plays in the Semis and who gets the gift of a direct shot to the championship. Or someone more creative than I figure out a way to do it with no blind draw. I just think it would be interesting. For the most part 6a SHOULD win it all, but imo, there will be years that it doesnt happen. Ive seen several Mayfield, NCC, Beechwood teams that could compete with anyone in the state, regaurdless of classification.
I would like to see the extra play as well. I have often wondered just how it would all shake out. Most years the bigger classes would win. Now in the classification thing it doesn't matter. If we had five there would be those complaining that we need 4. If we had 4 there would be those that would say we need five. If we had five they would say we need 6. It doesn't matter. No matter how we do it the better programs will still win most often.

Yes it was.. Hazard only played the 2nd half.. The first half was non exsistant... Hazard had there opportunities to make drives in tie the game but just couldn't do it.. Hazard would of really liked to had Joey Meehan that game. He transferred to LCA for that season and came back his senior year to hazard and played...
They almost got the first in that one.
Yes. The 07 team should have but middle linebacker Bart Teague was hurt for the LCA game and hazard then couldn't stop the run good enough..

I remember that Raceland team. Seems like they were unbelievable up front (which is nothing new at Raceland) that year. Maybe one of these days we will have a Hazard/Raceland matchup! No doubt it would be a great game. I'm not sure if they have ever played each other.
Maybe with this being our last year in 1a we can get Raceland at BG. That is if we can get past Frankfort or Beechwood winner.

This past seasons team and line were great and they managed to do what no other Raceland team could do. Win a regional championship. I may catch hell over this, but imo, 06 and 08 Raceland teams wouldhave probably thumped this squad. 06 had Grizzle, Mullins, Beach(Derrick) offensively and the defense was an absolute terror, hardest hitting team ive seen from Raceland. 08's line was LARGE and extremely fast. All of them were in redibly strong.

Robbie Logan: 6'4" 270 went on to play at Georgetown
Cody Chinn: 6'2" 260 cant recall what he did after hs
Cody Grant: 6'2" 260 went on to become a dr at uk
Eddie Compton: Pee wee of the group 6'1" 220 i think he played at Allice Loyd
Sabastian Johanssen: 6'5" 280 currently a starter at Marshall

They could move to. Logan and Johanssen were terrors under the basket on the court and Grant was a starter for the bball team as well. You had that line, blocking for Bret Denton, who was 5'8" 220 of nothing but muscle and around a 4.7 40 and John-Scott Carver who was about 5'8" 200 and just as fast. A smart QB in Boyles who is now an asst signal caller at EKU and a slew of tallent at WR in Brian Tolliver, Todd Selvage, Scotty Craft, more than I can remember.

That was a team poised to win a state championship. Who got caught playing conservative football in the 4th quarter against Lexington Christian. That gsme still eats at me.
The line play is where I saw the weakness in the bunch from last year. I watched the burg and Raceland game. It looked like both line just stood up and pushed each other instead of attacking. I never seen anything like it. That is why I picked us to win big at BG. The line is where the games are really won.
^^^agreed. And there in lies the difference i last seasons team and the 06 and 08 squads. Both years wouldhave competed for and possibly won state championships i. The current format.
If they didn't revamp their lines this time around, it will be more of the same.
mysonis55 Wrote:If they didn't revamp their lines this time around, it will be more of the same.

They was nothing wrong with the line mysonis55 it got us to bowling green. And this time we will have a running game and passing game. Go 1A Williamsburg :Cheerlead Revamp :thanks:
If you watch the video, you will see lots wrong with the line. Our d line was in the backfield as much as your backs. While it was good enough to get through the east it was not what we see here in the west.
I wonder if a man could watch the hazard and Williamsburg game.
Mayfield is a machine 55. Everyone knows that. But, Hazard got waxed, then closed the gap in one year. In 3a, belfry got beat by 40 points in 10, and closed to within 1 point versus the same opponent a year later.

Everyone in the East has a lot to play for.
The hazard team that got waxed was a better team than the score indicated..

What did you see in the west in 2013. Beside your team.
I saw a very good team in our dist by the name of Russellville. Their line play was very solid. I saw a very solid team in Frankfort. I'm sure Beechwood was solid as well. They played Frankfort pretty well til their qb broke his leg and still tried to play.

If I was a coach at the burg, I would work on exactly what I just told you. Even the year mentioned above with Hazard , we did not dominate their line like we did the burgs. That game was more decided over turnovers and our speed at the skill positions.
Take my shot at it:
1. Mayfield
2. Beechwood
3. Williamsburg
4. Frankfort
5. Hazard
6. Pikeville
7. Raceland
8. Russellville
9. Paintsville
10. Paris
I see a few probs eku. First I think I would swap Frankfort and Beechwood right now. I however would have the burg behind them two. The next glaring prob is that Murray is 2a.
