Pikeville Alumni 26 Belfry Alumni 22 1st Belfry/Pikeville Alumni Game, HI-LIs Added

Final from Hambley!

What a game! Wow! If you didn't come, you missed out. If you thought this was some disorganized chaos, you were wrong!

This was a GREAT Game! Both sides had big plays, long drives, big defensive plays, big hits, EVERYTHING!

I pray this becomes an annual event. It was awesome.

Doug Howard named MVP for Belfry

Matt Branham and Paul Sullivan named MVPs for Pikeville.

Very nice crowd at Hambley to watch these two historic programs battle.

I will see if I can get stats this week and post them. May try to put the game up eventually.

Great job on preparation to both sides and thanks for a great game!

Wish i could have been there to see this game PT. Hopefully, you can put up some video .

Same thing I thought when the Belfry/Sheldon Clark game was being planned. I figured it would be rif raf. Complete opposite. Such a fun event and the Gridiron Alumni organization does a remarkable job.

This was a really great football game overall. Any high school kid there should have really paid attention to the way those guys played out there.

I noticed David Jones was in street clothes after halftime. Anyone know what happened to him? I hope he and the Pikeville player that hurt his knee are ok!

Dave came up limping after a pass play that was thrown to him. Matt Maynard also didn't play much because he got hurt. I hated that because I was excited to watch those two play together and they didn't get to much.

What a fun game. Way better than the Sheldon Clark game even though we lost. Paul Sullivan is a stud. Doug Howard too. Hope we can do this annually.

Awesome Idea I agree I hope you guys post some video of this. Even just a flag game would be a pretty cool idea, but full go that's just awesome. Congrats to them for pulling it off.

Like I said, take a look, the level of play was awesome to watch. This was not some scrapped together thing. Both teams took pride in their jerseys and prepared and played like champions!

Better late than never! HAIL PIKEVILLE!

Sounds like a great game. I went to mayfield/graves alumni game a couple weeks ago, and was very impressed, with how close it was to a real game. My only complaint was the spokesman for the outfit that put it on was longwinded, other than that it was very hard hitting amazingly no one got hurt that i recall. I would recommend any rival schools do this we have a few more being planned on this end of the state.

Thanks for the hi lts. PT. After watching this I realize what a great game this was. This was as good as any high school game, and better than some. Big time hitting, and apparently good preparation from both teams. Don't know who the runner for Pikeville was (#44), but he was a hoss. This was old school Pikeville/Belfry.

Paul Sullivan Class of 2003.

Currently a coach at Paintsville.

The Pikeville Alums will take on Phelps this coming Saturday, May 10th at Vipperman in Belfry in the Semis of the "King of the Coalfields" Tournament. They advanced to the 2nd round when Pike Central could not field a team. The other semifinal is Belfry/Sheldon Clark.

Thanks Pt for the info. Sure would like to be there to see that. Looks like this is growing into some great entertainment for the mtns.

How does the insurance play into all of this?
Do they sign waivers?

It was nice to see Pikeville play Belfry at football and not play dead Tongue
Red is so much purtier than that dang maroon, too.

Just kidding of course. PT, I have a few questions for you man. I'm gonna shoot you a PM.

In all seriousness, I hope if the two teams meet up again for an alumni contest that everyone comes out. A ton of great Pirates and Panthers didn't play. I really wanted to see David play again but he got hurt pretty early on. I'll never truly be happy until I see Dustin May, Josh Dixon, Doug Howard, David Jones, Justin Johnson, Andrew Elkins, and Thomas Varney on the same team.

The need a 40+ alumni game!
#18
If Jeff Norman would of played for Belfry, he'd stuffed Sullivan in the backfield and Howard would of been running for days.
#19
Just curious how old was the oldest player. Mayfield had a couple that were over 50, with the oldest being either 51 or 52.

I can safely say he would have tried, may have died of a heart attack, but what better way to go out!

Agree, those mentioned would have been studs for the Pirates. For the Panthers would have liked to see Greg Hackney Bobby Deramus, Steve Bailey, Eddie Deramus, Danny Estep, Barrett Rogers, Daniel Harmon, Paul Sullivan,& Chase Hall. All of these from Belfry, and Pikeville would I think, be the best of the best for both teams, and probably make the game even more interesting.

YES!!! Thank you, I could not remember some of the Panther names but I definitely remembered Daniel Harmon. Randy Maynard was great too!

hey you all. I just found this thread. there is a game 2. 9/6 at belfry. and, right now, it looks to continue and raise the standards of the first game. I've just done the facebook event page for the game, and I'm out looking for stuff to spruce it up. I've seen some cool highlight video and love to post it to the event page.

you have your own insurance. the sponsoring organization provides facility insurance. game two will be thru a different vendor, and even though a different vendor, the gridiron alumni did an excellent job of helping out with injuries.
#27
as far as I know, the oldest player, was 48.....and yes, I am biased in that statement :0
