It is late so we will make this quick. The Senate is not going to pass the Rupp Arena funding proposal. After giving $75 million to the Yum Center and another $60 million in this session to the Louisville Convention Center, the Kentucky Senate has denied any funding for the new Rupp Arena project. The decision was lead by Senate President Robert Stivers, who earlier in the evening had said he was undecided on the project. We will look more into this tomorrow for details and discuss on the radio. This is a definite blow for the Rupp renovation and a big step in keeping UK behind Louisville on the facility/revenue side for the near future.

I have no problem with this.
Im as big of a UK fan as anyone, but that's not the tax payers problem.

I'm glad they shot this down for now, because there were some issues with this bill, like what UK's role would be in funding and maintenance, where the money would be coming from, the time table for the project. there were basic plans, but when a project like this is asking for $80 million, it needs to be more detailed and commitments need to be solid.
it's going to take a decade for the Yum Center to make enough to pay for t's cost, it's going to be the same for Rupp when it's complete

From what I'm seeing and reading. The only reason they want one is because Ricky Whitecoat got one, and they cant pay for it. I have been going to Rupp since it open and I have always thought it was as nice as anyone I have ever been to. If the city of Lexington wants a new Rupp and Convention center I'm all for them getting one as long as they use there own money and no tax money from the rest of the state is used. they want to use Coal Severance money all over the state but if we need anything and do not live in Somerset or Prestonsburg we are just out of luck.
