Corbin coaching search

goBIGblue82 Wrote:He actually started all 4 years getting the nod as a true freshmen. He passed for 8000 yards in his career and rushed for almost a 1000. He wasnt in spread air raid type offense at western like he was in high school, but he led that WKU team very well. Torched EKU for 4 years.

Brent Jackson and his staff are the best choice he has won and is a great person for the young Redhounds to look up to what more do you want
#63
I don't think it will be anyone mentioned so far...

Haddix was a heck of a player and is a great young coach. He loves to spread it around the field.
#67
"Frazier is in his 40's. My husband played with him in high school and they graduated in 83. Late 40's."

I think he graduated in 82, which, unfortunately, would make him 50, or very close to it.
#68
Like I said, I personally think that Haddix would do well but from what I am hearing, he's pretty deep on the list. More of an established coach seems to be the direction Corbin wants to go. If a candidate or 3 falls through, I could see Haddix getting a call but until then, I think he's on the long shot list.

If I were guessing, your main candidates would be (in no order).

Tommy Reid
Mike Jackson
Greg Duncum
Dudley Hilton
Mike Holcomb
Brent Jackson
Clark Teague
Randy Frazier
Paul Raines (name I've not heard mentioned but seems to have a good relationship with Corbin)

Coach Jewell decided on his new position several weeks ago. The reason it was announced this week was for the trimester to finish at the high school. When Coach Jewell first decided to take the vice principle job, an unofficial 3-4 man committee was formed to begin looking at replacements. One of these members is a very close friend of mine and they have made informal contacts with a hand full of coaches. The people they have contacted are younger coaches with ties to the area but no longer live or coach in the area. They all have college playing experience. I have been told a few names but do not have their permission to share. NO local coaches are being considered AS OF NOW. Of course that could change. The middle school coach is not being considered nor is anyone currently on the high school staff. The committee thinks the job is too big for anyone currently on staff.

As for Coach Jewell himself, he has many, many more people who support him than the number who bash him. I myself think very highly of him and was pleased to see the ovation he received when introduced at the 13th region boys championship game. Even the Clay Co. fans showed their class and gave him props.

Of course this is my first post here, as most people who support Corbin High School don't seem to be very welcome here, so I'll let you guys decide if I'm just trolling or if I'm legit.

Thats a pretty good list and it could very well have Corbin's next coach on it. I feel like Corbin has been stuck in a Tubby Smith like era since Jewell took over good but not great. Hopefully we can get someone in here that can do more then a win or two in the playoffs!!

5 Region Finals
4 Semi Final Appearances
1 State Runner Up

10 pretty dang good years out of 14.

Tough crowd.
#72
The arguement with those numbers are that they were in a pretty week Region during that time. Since re-alignment the unhappy villagers increased.
#73
^^Seems to be the word on the street. So, basically the last three years?

2011 they were knocked out by Lou. Central, who no mountain teams have been able to beat.
2012 they were knocked out by LaRue County pretty handily. I'm sure that stung some.
2013 they were beaten by the buzz saw known as Wayne County.

I'm guessing going o'fer vs Bell County has brought them out of the woodshed, too?

I guess it comes with the territory, but I was always one who thought Steve Jewell was/is about as good of a football mind as there is.

Dudley: I can't see Corbin talking with Dudley or coming up with the money. I'm sure it will also require a teaching position.

B Jackson: I just don't think he wants the hassle in his life. Great person and good coach but not the right person for the job.

Greg Duncum: Likeable guy but not who Corbin wants representing the program.

Tommy Reid: I dont know much about him but I've heard nothing but good things about him. I heard he lives in Corbin next the high school and it would be hard not to give a former college coach a strong look if he wants it. I'm not sure he would want it though.

Mike Jackson: Heck of a good guy and former Redhound. I am not so sure he would want the job though. He is pretty settled in Louisville from what I hear.

Haddix: I've heard good things about him. Would he want it?

Frazier: Anybody know anything about him? How successful has he been?

Mike Holcomb: What about him?

Clark Teague: What about him?

What about Jody Mouser? I am hearing his name.
#75
Reid wants the job.

Frazier coached at Cumberland High school back in the mid 90's when they had some powerful teams. He most recently was an assistant at Bell and last year at Middlesboro. He went 9-3 yet was let go.

If you want to look at last years media guide you can http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/wky/...pectus.pdf ,but it is over 100 pages and I thought it would be easier to post something smaller. Praise be to cherokee the mighty redpup

In regard to the posting of Haddix playing stats, please stop. Playing is not coaching. He can coach and has a record in that regard that can be broken down. Bringing up playing stats makes it look like you don't know what coaching actually is.

Sadly some folks feel the need to tear others down in a feeble attempt to make themselves look better.

No need to scream (all caps) it obvious that you crave the attention you could never get as an athlete.

either way you have issues and don't even know who you are a fan of.

What's Steve Bird doing these days?
#87
Who cares about what kind of player he was, that doesn't make you a great coach. Lou Holtz didn't even play football.
I'm sure the hiring committee will do a great job in hiring the best for the kids, school and community !!!
#88
Are they required to post the job opening for so many days before they can hire?

Also, how does the process work, and does the Principal make the final decision?
#89
SEKYFAN Wrote:Are they required to post the job opening for so many days before they can hire?

For teaching job yes. Coaching no. Depends on the district who makes the final say.
#90
Pretty sure that the Principal and Athletic Director make the hire.

Steve Bird is a name that I never thought of. I didn't know that he was back in town. He has a nice pedigree as he was a coach for West Virginia and USF.
