Final.
Our guards were the difference!! Cody and Cameron were motivators tonight and took care of the ball.
Great game Black Bears.

I was actually able to make it to the game right before it started, which I want to thank one of my working buddies for taking care of stuff so I could go to the game. This HC team played lights out defensively. I agree with Granny, our guards were the difference along with our defense. This game should have and could have been a lot worse but we will take a 10 point win any day. I also thought that HC's game plan was the difference in the game. I felt the 2-3 zone gave Harlan fits. Go Bears!!!!!

Harlan Co. had a great game plan, I thought they played really good team ball tonight.

Was really good to see Fred Massey playing. One of my favorite young men.
Cody B. is a little underrated I think. Played well. Congrats to HC on a good district win.

Thanks Dungy!! I was glad Fred was playing, too.
I believe our defense was amazing tonight, but the Dragons seemed awfully wound up. They didn't get loose til after half-time......jitters?
Why SUR, you always serve collard greens with crow!!!!

I wasn't at the game, but was told Harlan County was up by 20 at one point. This was a much needed win for the Black Bears, who had lost nine of their last 10.

Score doesn't reflect what a mismatch this one really was. I knew HC had an advantage in the backcourt, but I thought HC's bigs were hands down better than Harlan Ind.'s bigs. This game could have easily been a 30 or 35 point blowout.

The Bears defense came out on fire. That, and the appearance that Harlan was wound up tighter than a banjo string, were the two main factors that led to the 10 point total at the half by the Dragons, IMO.
The post players for Harlan did not do a good job. I heard Parks tell them on a few occasions to get it to the post, but when I think back on it, I don't believe I saw one shot taken from that position.
I could be wrong, so you folks that were there, let me have it!!

I think the schedule Harlan has played really will hurt them in big games. I felt like the coach from Harlan just took a seat after the first quarter and didn't coach the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
Parks played really well from Harlan. Was the only real threat Harlan had from the outside tonight.
Bears did a good job surrounding the post in their 2-3. Bumgardner, Carmical, and Caldwell played well. I thought a big difference in the game was Caldwell and Bailey limited the Dragons post on second and third looks. They both rebounded the ball really well.

Many thought Harlan Ind's post players would have an advantage in this matchup. This was not the case at all. Caldwell was the best post player in the game last night. Miller gets most of the hype, but Caldwell is the better player. The trio of Caldwell, Bailey, and Massey is very underrated. I thought they manhandled Harlan physically. HC won the rebounding battle 35-28. Coming in you heard a lot about harlan's size advantage, but it was an absolute non factor.

Carmical and Spurlock are impressive freshmen. Ive seen better athletes play as freshmen, but these two are legit basketball playeys- smooth and smart, with jump shots. Maybe this is an obvious statement to many, but Cody B. is the fastest player I have ever seen in this county with the ball in the hands- that guy can fly! Brock Leisge was quick but he is a distant 2nd compared to Cody B. Good mix of true basketball guys with some brute football athletes make this a very dangerous team if they get some momentum going into tourney.
01-15-2014, 11:20 AM
I saw Brock at the game last night, and wondered what he thought of Cody B. They are quite similar in their play style, except for the 3 point shot. Cody should take more; Brock would pop it any time he was opened!

I think the difference in this game was Harlan Co bigs just man handled Harlan's. I think a couple hard fouls early was a message to Miller from his old team. It sort of got to him. You could tell as he retrieved one Technical early and should've received another one late but was not called. I just thought miller returning to HC proved to be too psychical for him to handle.

I don't post very often, but I do read and keep up just about everyday. I just had to say how proud I am of the Black Bears! They have had a string of losses to some very good teams and some teams they should have beaten. I think in the long run playing this tough schedule will help them. This game was a confidence booster.
I was also glad to see Fred playing. I am a Fred fan, he gives 100% every game. I have watched Cody and Zack play together since they were 9 years old. I am glad Cody is finally getting the recognition he deserves. He is awesome!! I am also proud of Zack with his double - double scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds!!! Hats off to the team! Each player who came into the game contributed to the win. Also proud of Sanders and Bailey who gave us baskets and rebounds when we needed them. Carmical and Spurlock played their best game yet. Can't wait for the rest of the season!
