Alright, so since everyone is starting up threads about their programs upcoming season. I will do the same for mine.
Pike County Central is only losing 6 seniors to graduation this season, several of our key players will be returning including our whole QB/WR/TE group. We are primarily a throwing team so this should be a very, very good & experienced core.
Pike County Central will have to develop a couple new RB's & a few OL/DL.
We have a solid core of incoming freshman led by Mr. Seth Conn, Seth played QB for the middle school program, but I don't feel that he will be QB for PCCHS at least in his freshman year. Seth is super talented, I'm sure he'll be used as a WR or even as a RB.
As far as the schedule goes, I'm pretty sure we will be opening the season in the Pike County Bowl against the Somerset Briar Jumpers. That should be a fun game.
Not sure if our schedule from last season will be the same turnover for this season.
Anyways, I've rambled enough...
What do you think think about Pike County Central in 2014?

Keeping your QB WR and TE corp should help a lot. The O line will be suspect having to develop them in order to get the protection needed for the QB to do his job.

I've seen Seth Conns highlights and seen him play. Kid is an athlete and leaves it all on the field.

Mac Justice is very good. They will be extremely dangerous with him manning the controls of the offense.

Who leaves the hill for greener pastures after Chapman bounces?

PC will legitimately open the season as one of the Top 10 teams in 3A and potentially Belfry's biggest challenge in the East...
PC will have a Top 5 3A Offense...
... but their success will revolve around a defense that was simply not very good in 2013.

What players will step up on the OL/DL?

As I mentioned, I think Seth Conn could jump right now and play as a RB.
They also have Chase Patton who they started during Dakota Ray's suspension, but he mostly plays on the defensive side.
Gage Burnett who plays Slot WR & CB could also potentially see some time at RB.

This is where they are losing most of their experience, they are losing Alex Peters, Justin Hendricks who played both sides. Also losing Center Jordan Johnson...3 offensive linemen to replace.
Returning is Bryson Patton & John Murphy.
Incoming freshman Josh Rogers I expect will play a big role on the OL/DL as well.

Jesus, Did Bryson Patton come with the building? Seems like he's been there FOREVER

PC will be an above average 3A team. They close the gap between themselves and Belfry a little bit, but nowhere near enough to think about being the king of the district or east...Until PC gets the athletes on D to run with and contain the Belfry athletes, then PC will continue to struggle with the big boys...early line on Belfry/PC is BHS by 3tds plus.

He'll be a senior next season, 2014 will be very senior heavy.

Justice and Elkins will lead this team. I expect a very good year for central next year.

There will gradually be some draining effect on athletes Belfry draws. The improvement of the Hawk program could keep players home on this side of the big mountain. And there's is the improving program at Mingo Central which will have the same inexorable effect on the Pirate program.
For now, Belfry is still riding the crest of its success. Pike Central simply needs to keep its competitive level up for the current talent gap to even out over time.

^ Belfry doesn't get any John's Creek kids.
You may be proven right on the other account oveR time. We shall see.

At a given time, you're probably right. But the Pirates have in the past and likely will in years to come. Sometimes one or two players is the difference between ending a season as Regional runner-up or Title winner.

No gimmes on that schedule. Why didn't they add Harlan County so they could play that whole district.

I watched you guys play Williamsburg last year I thought you all were a very very good team. I picked you to win all the rest of the way to the play offs, I think you will be very tough this year.

EKUALUM is usually spot on in his preseason assessments.
If they are a true top 10 3A team and will play competitively with Belfry, then I think Wburg and Whitley will have there hands full, which is a food thing. Some were acting like these two teams only scheduled that game as a cupcake, but im think PCC gives both teams a very good game.

Justice was one of the best quarterbacks I saw last year. He will make PCC a tough game for every body they play.

I agree. If I am not mistaken he has his #1 target back this year also.

It is all about the defense for Pike Central and injuries.
These are the constants you can expect from PC:
- They will have an offense capable of scoring points every year, but about every 3-4 years they will have a Senior team with a multi-year starter at QB that will be truly one of the best offensive teams in EKY. This should be one of those years.
- They will never be a very deep team. Chapman prefers building for that one strong team and then hitting the re-set button. PC still struggles to field a roster with a high number of players as a lot of kids simply don't want to play for Chapman. When PC suffers injuries there is almost always a major drop off to the next guy. This hurt them against Wburg last year and against Belfry in the playoffs.
- Going hand in hand with depth is the fact PC's biggest weakness every year is their D-Line and lack of playmakers on defense. It is almost like PC knows they have a finite amount of quality players and try to stack them on offense and spend most of their time practicing offense. This is not me stating it as fact by any means. That's why I always say that PC will never beat Belfry unless the Hawk Offense can consistently put up around 50 points... because every year it is almost a certainty Belfry will score 49.
PC's offense will be stout next year... Justice will create matchup problems for teams not used to a QB with his skill set. The Elkins kid will be one of the better WR's East of I-75 and the Conn kid has the potential to be a super star over the next 4 years.

I only saw Pike Central play one game last year (Williamsburg). The quarterback is very skilled, and if given time he is going to hit the recievers in the numbers. With all passing teams, protection determines how much you are able to throw it down field. Do they return a lot of lineman from last year?
03-20-2014, 08:29 AM
Last year it did not seem like Pike Central had many players. What will their numbers look like for next year?
03-20-2014, 10:10 AM
Justice is the best throwing qb in eastern kentucky last year and will be this year. hh:

Justice and #4 are both studs! Pike Central returns all their skill guys and should be dangerous!
