I thought Collins would win, but not by this much. What a statement.

Collins clearly bigger but Owensboro put the ball on the carpet at least 10 times without being touched.

A lot of Owensboro's fumbles came after being drilled by a defender. Those boys from Collins were hitting people tonight.

OWENSBORO, Ky.
Best known for its passing attack, the Collins High School football team went to the ground to wrap up a second straight trip to the Class 4-A state championship game.
The Titans posted 297 rushing yards -- led by Ryan Watkins' 160 -- and got four touchdowns from DeAndre Farris to whip Owensboro 50-14 in Friday's -semifinal game at Rash Stadium.
Farris rushed for 72 yards on eight carries and quarterback Lawson Page carried six times for 64 yards as the Titans averaged 10.2 yards on 29 carries.
"We spread the defense out, and that gave us openings through the middle," said Watkins, who credited an offensive line that includes three sophomores in Kolton Alvey, Trei Axline and Kyle Goss.
Collins (12-2) -- No. 10 in The Courier-Journal's Litkenhous Ratings -- advanced to face the Highlands-Lexington Catholic winner in next Saturday's 4 p.m. EST state final in Bowling Green. No. 1 Highlands beat Collins 47-0 last year for its sixth straight state championship.
Page said the Titans will be better prepared for this year's final, no matter who they play.
"We're just a lot more experienced," he said. "We have so many seniors, and the leadership has been amazing. We're just a different team."
Page completed 17 of 23 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown, surpassing the 3,000-yard mark for the season. But it was Collins' ground game that dominated.
"We said all along that we had to stop the run, and we didn't," Owensboro coach Joe Prince said. "When you don't stop the run, then a team can do whatever they want."
Nick Locher's 7-yard touchdown run gave the Red Devils (10-4) a 7-0 lead at the 9:06 mark of the first quarter.
But Watkins got the Titans going, carrying around left end for a 17-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 7 at the 2:05 mark. Farris' 13-yard TD run on a sweep around left end gave Collins a 14-7 lead with 7:36 left in the second quarter.
Page's 17-yard touchdown pass to Farris made it 21-7 with 27.9 seconds left in the first half before the Titans put it away in the third quarter by taking advantage of two Owensboro turnovers.
Masai Whyte had a 1-yard touchdown run and Page had TD passes of 9 yards to Farris and 7 to Nathan Sames. Page's two-point conversion pass to Sames made it 43-7 and started the mercy-rule running clock at the 2:14 mark of the third quarter.
"I thought the difference in the game was the offensive and defensive line," Titans coach Jerry Lucas said. "I thought we controlled the line of scrimmage all night."
Owensboro finished with nine fumbles, losing four of them.
"I think our kids got a little shell-shocked when we started fumbling the ball, and then 'What do we do now?' " Prince said. "When you turn the ball over like that, you can't win."
