Not exactly surprised.
Cant lose to Madison Southern.
Just wasnt the right time.
MC is filled with athletes and potential. They really need to get a big name in there.

Chuck Smith -- Name is being thrown around the most. Could be the front runner.
Mark Scenters -- Him and His family live in Madison County. Wife works for the Madison County school system and their little boy goes to a Madison County elementary school.
Mike Holcomb - LCC administration not happy with Holcomb or how the season turned out and it was said that he applied for the Madison Central job the last time it was open before they hired Bert Browne.

Well, from how he acted in the end zone at the EKU games I'm not surprised. If he treated his team anything like he represented himself at those games he was nothing but a loud-mouthed bully.

I don't know the Scenters guy, but the other two can flat out coach the game of football.
Isn't Holcomb a Madison County native?

Madison Central could be a power house. Could be Dudley. That would destroy Gut' s faith in mankind.

I didn't really think hiring Browne was the right choice four years ago, but since he was a Madison Central grad, I understood why they did it.
There is certainly lots of talent in the school, but history suggests that it will take a very special coach to unite all of the program's assets.

Why is LCC not happy with Holcomb? He doubled their wins. Rome was not built in a day. How many coaches has LCC had in the last 6 years? Is it 4? Every time a daddy gets mad they change coaches.

Madison Central played a LOT of young guys this year. Whoever gets this job will automatically look like a genius.

I'd say Browne will be back down in Georgia coaching again next year. He is a hell of a coach. Its hard to be successful in football at a basketball school. He done real well at Perry Central considering everyone there is a basketball crazy. Same thing happened at Madison Central. He done well there to but everyone is hooked on hoops. You can only settle for being decent at best in football at these two schools.

You do know Scenters... he is Garrard's Head Coach. He would be a good fit with the athletes at Madison Central.. he has proven he can coach Garrard into a fundamentally sound team but has struggled with getting enough athletes on the field to be competitive with the big boys of 3A. When he had some athletic talent he led Garrard to the Semi's and darn near upset Belfry.

If LCC is not happy then they truly don't deserve to have a successful program.
The guy took over an AWFUL team and still got them a 3 seed. You've got to at least give a guy 2-3 years to develop some talent and purge some of the riff raff.

Well, I don't like this news, at all. I hope Coach Browne will find a new place to coach soon, he's a good coach and I think whoever takes over at MC will have a good team to work with for next year. Best of luck wherever you end up at coach!

I think it's pretty sad to do that to one of your own, after just 4 years. I know he was 15-30, but he inherited a team that was 0-9 and won the district two years ago and lost to Trinity in the second round last year. They were extremely young this past season, so no question about it they will be much better in 2014. Good Luck to Bert he's a good guy and left that program in excellent shape for the future!

I personally would hate to see this, but I would understand. Him and his
family still live in Berea. He put-in for one of the Madison jobs and Garrard
at the same time and was hired at Garrard. He has taken Garrard to a new
level and is doing good things across the board for these young men. IMO,
there would have to be more on the table than just a Head Coaching position.

If I were a coach on the outside, I would never take the LCC job. The facilities and kids down there are great, but make 1 or 2 parents mad and you better start packing.

Just telling you all what I was told that LCC could be open really soon that the LCC administration wasn't happy with Holcomb or how the season turned out. That's all I know.....We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

IMO, I think LCC is making a big mistake if they get rid of Holcomb.

Madison Central has several new administrators including a new AD.
I've also heard Frank Parks name mentioned. He is currently the head coach at Bryan Station

Well I totally get this. Coach Browne is a bully, he should be run out of Madison Central. He knows the game of football but his attitude is not meant for high school kids. I don't think Scenters will get this job, he is a Madison Southern graduate and he was passed over twice for that job. He was an assistant at Central for several years, but I think the job he has at Garrard is where he wants to be and is comfortable there. I look for Central to find something someone not from here. They may even look at Frank Parks who is the Bryan Station Coach and a former Madison Central player. This is a VERY attractive job.

I heard from some inside sources that Madison Central has already contacted Mark Dixon of Hazard about the coaching position. Mark used to be an assistant coach at Madison Central under Coach Raines for two or three years. Mark Dixon would really be great hire. He is one of the top young coaches in Kentucky.

This would be tough. At Hazard Dixon has a legit chance to reach the State Finals every season and you will coach for a Football First school.
At Madison Central, you definitely have more resources but along with it you have a harder path to the State Finals (and a State Championship will be a huuuuuge stretch with the Big 3 Louisville Schools).
If Dixon did go to Mad. Central I predict Belfry vs. Madison Central becomes a regular occurrence as Dixon respects Coach Haywood and vice versa. Instead of the yearly scrimmage and 7 on 7 practice between Belfry and Hazard I am willing to bet you would see a nice regular season series get worked out.

Dixon is one of the best coaches in the state. He would be a huge get for Madison Central. I would hate that for the Bulldogs. He has built them into a powerhouse.

After playing for Coach Browne for a number of years, I respectfully disagree.
If Madison Central was to hire Dixon, it would be a good pick-up, he's a great young coach.

Richmond is my second home. There's so much talent walking those halls, it is unreal. The right coach could make them a true 6A powerhouse. They are a basketball and baseball school first, that is true. But there needs to be a cohesiveness at the little league and up in order to build up the program hire a young one, give him room and resources, and they could compete with the big 3.

I guess in Hazard we start seeing Bert Browne back in town but not as football coach.
11-22-2013, 07:02 PM
Can not see Dixon going to Madison Central. Hazard and schools like Pikeville are some of the best jobs in the state.
11-22-2013, 07:12 PM
Hazard is as good of job as the schedule allows it be.

Holcomb is from Nelson Co.
