I'm just curious, maybe someone knows more info on it. How much longer will the state title games be held in Bowling Green?? And if they move venues again where will the next site be? Louisville again? Lexington?? Where would you like to see it be held at?? Thanks

I think it is in BG at least through the next realignment year which is at the end of next season, but I am not 100 pct sure how long the current contract runs for it to be at WKU. I would love to have it in Lexington some way, but with the grass at Commonwealth that is impossible. I look for it to be a tight contest between WKU and UL when the next contract comes up for bid. I personally prefer WKU, but either place is fine with me if my team is playing!!:biggrin:

Personally, I think we'd all like to see it at UK, but as someone mentioned, its not possible with grass. I dont think its a good ideal to have it at WKU though.
Lville sucks, we'll just leave it at that.

WKU is way to far out to have it.

If anything, we should rotate locations.
Personally, id like to see the state title games be played at Gtowns Toyota Stadium.
Its turf, and can expand to hold 20000, which is just under what WKU holds.

I would be nice to have it in a more central location. I understand about the grass a UK. But what about EKU? Is it grass there also? If so then Gtown stadium would be good also. WKU is just to far west. It needs to be relocated.

I think you are correct.
It seems a lot people think its on the same schedule as the realignment and things of that nature, but I think its on a totally different schedule.
Its a contract in its own.

While the artificial turf is a requirement, it's more than that. It's the cost of using the stadium; the cost of security; the number of hotels close by and the cost of the rooms; corporate sponsors; etc. Yes, it's about the money. And for those that are bothered by that, you shouldn't be. The KHSAA has to be concerned about finances. It has a duty to the member schools to be concerned about the money. Football has never been a big money maker for the KHSAA. It pales in comparison to the Boys Sweet 16 and when I was last on the BOC, trailed even the Girls Sweet 16. So the "numbers" do play a big role in the decision.

If EKU, Georgetown or UL can put together a package that beats WKU's bid the next time it's put out for bid, it will end up somewhere else than WKU.

I will say that the people at WKU and in BG were one heck of a lot easier to deal with than the folks at UL and in Louisville. The WKU/BG people really wanted the football championship games. The folks at UL/Louisville pretty much acted liked they couldn't have cared less if the games remained in Louisville.

If you are asking me, I don't know. I think that was a long term contract signed before I want on the BOC and still in place when I left the BOC. At least I certainly don't remember the BOC voting on the Boys Sweet 16 venue while I was on it.

I'd have no problem with it moving to Louisville if the money was better (and I am a UK fan if anyone is wondering).

Mayfield and PT think Bowling Green is centrally located. Somebody has to drive no matter where it is. There is no true central location.

I love it in BG. I think it should stay there forever. Us Western people drove to Louisville for 30 years. It should stay down here for awhile. Plenty of places to eat, hotels, parking, good setup for coaches, plenty of seating.

Well as long as Rawlings is writing the check, it will be held in BG. Only other place in the state that could host it is the Pizza Bowl.

I hate it being played in BG. It's 3 hours from Lexington, 6 hours from Belfry. Thats a horrible trip on a school bus I can imagine. I'd love it to be in Lexington, 3 hours from BG, 2.5 hours from Belfry. I keep bring up Belfry because they are the easternmost school in Kentucy besides Phelps.
Grass just couldnt hold up with 6 games in 2 days. EKU has turf, but there isnt enough seating to accomodate the 6A game, same with Georgetown College. Parking would be a logistical nightmare for either of those schools besides unless it was at UK.

From what I hear, it will remain at BG when the contract is up baring a miracle. I want to know by the way, how is EKU any closer to central. I have to drive there many times. Driving as fast as I can without getting caught and only stopping for gas when I get to Lexington and making it very brief it is a 5 hour drive. Now add to that another 30-45 minutes for some over here and another 30 minutes or so on a bus.

It could be like Texas. The top team gets to decide where it will be. Some of those teams have to travel 8 or more hours. No matter where the games are, there will always be one team that drives hours more than the other to get there.

FWIW, the venue itself is the perfect venue. The way Houchens Stadium is set-up is perfect for a HS Football State Championship game with equal seating essentially on both sides and an intimate setting.

I hated the games at PJCS where 65% of the seats were empty and the atmosphere was lacking...Houchens can get quite loud.

EKU is not a very good venue in this aspect as the grandstand is much better/much nicer than the bleachers.

If EKU had WKU's stadium it would be a no-brainer IMHO.

I would like to see the semis played at neutral sites. How bout west semis at Murray State and East semis at EKU? I think all games from regional finals on should be played on turf.

I myself would love to see it be moved back to a more central location in Ky. Louisville would be fine with me. I'm like most of you. I would like to see it at Commonwealth Stadium but there's no way it could withstand the beating. It just seems that no matter where it is some one will have to drive for a few hours.

The thing that bothers me most about BG is there is nothing to do in BG. When it was played in Louisville it was a good excuse to get a few buddies and have a great football weekend. Since moving to BG it is just not the same. I know those are selfish reason's but honest reasons.

I like the roving site concept. There's isn't an ideal central location and you must have enough infrastructure in the town to support 12 teams, family, friends, and fans.

I like the small-medium size college environment. Georgetown, Centre, EKU all would work. Yes they would need extra bleachers at Georgetown and Centre. Average attendance doesn't normally exceed 10,000.

More folks typically show up for an X-T match up at Papa Johns. I'm not a fan of Papa Johns either. Way too big of a stadium and seats way too small, my size 40 waist feels like I'm a kid again on a swing at the playground nicker:.

I will make a suggestion to the WKU folks. Replace your field turf with the proceeds. I visited BG back in the August and the field looked like it had the mange nicker:. It will benefit your recruiting as well. It's a great facility otherwise, just a far piece for most to travel.

To establish a roving site schedule balances it out a bit. Choose 4 stadiums that fit the needs and schedule them.

Note: UK is done by the time the championship is played. So big deal if 6 games are played over a weekend on natural grass. If the Ag school is as good as they say it is they'll have Commonwealth turf ready to rock by the spring blue-white game. Plus it would be a great recruiting tool for UK. A potential 6A mud bowl once every four years would not be the end of the world.

It costs alot of $$$ to pay for the new grass at a stadium. I don't blame UK for not wanting to foot the bill. KHSAA would have to step up and to pay for it and we know that wouldnt happen....

The most centrally located "town" in KY is Elizabethtown. E-town doesn't have a college stadium. Louisville and Bowling Green are very central considering actual facts of how many schools are east and west of them. U.K. is my alma mater and I would love to see it there, but not until they have turf. As has been said before BG out-bid Louisville and Louisville didn't really care.

Disregard my UK angle, to effectively repair and overseed "Bermuda" grass we would need to live in a warmer climate like Florida or Texas.

So we live in the Bluegrass State but our state university chose "Bermuda" grass to seed the football field with nicker:! Turf type tall fescue mixed with bluegrass would be good. Better idea would be field turf :Thumbs:!
