So while at home eating lunch today I catch the tail end of the Price is Right. Just saw Lee, a WWII veteran win a Chrysler 200 Convertible, and a week trip to Bora Bora totaling $49,000 +.

Congrats to Lee and thumbs up to Drew Carey and the Price is Right for hosting and honoring a veterans show.

Mike Car Wash and Horseshoe Casino in Cincinnati is providing a complimentary car wash and buffet today. Just show your military id. I suppose every little bit counts. Have a good day!

While the "thanks" are appreciated, they are not necessary. At least not to me. One of the 4 remaining survivors of the Doolittle Raid summed it up nicely, in talking about why he didn't think he deserved the Medal of Honor (there is a push in Congress to award the Medal while there are still some survivors alive). He said: “I don’t think anybody should be asking for a medal to defend his country.”

We are blessed to live in such a great country. Truly blessed. And the best way to show appreciation of being so blessed is to try every day to make this country better and stronger. If you can serve in the military, do so. If you cannot, there are many other ways you can contribute. Heck, just making sure your kids take their education seriously makes this country stronger. Making sure you instill the correct morals and values in your kids makes this country stronger. Refusing to suck off the government welfare teet, even if that means working a couple of low paying jobs, makes this country stronger. Helping to crackdown on drugs and welfare fraud instead of looking the other way, makes this country stronger.

I can't say I speak for every veteran, but I'd bet I speak for a whole lot of them: rather than thanking those who served in the military, do what you can every day to make this country a better and stronger place. That will show more appreciation to those that risked their lives to defend this country, than anything else.

That's quite profound charlie22. But those of us who are truly grateful can do little else but give the veterans that recognition. At least, you know you are appreciated.

I hope neither you nor anyone else interpreted my comments as being unappreciative of your appreciation. I just ask folks to do more than just tell vets like me thanks. Make a difference in any way you can, big or small, to make this country stronger. That more than any thing else will make a vet's day!

Great post Charlie22...spot on.

Since I missed this yesterday, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our veterans!
