Pike Central must be rapidly improving!
I still say Johnson Central, Shelby Valley, East Ridge, and Lawrence All others are not close.

They are pretty good and I don't read into a bunch of hype.
I don't understand the love for ER, Paintsville or Sheldon Clark others are giving.

East Ridge has Miller and Wolter is back this year they will be one of the team to beat. Johnson Central, Lawrence Co, Shelby Valley and East Ridge will be the top teams!!!

Region, I am not doubting your prediction with Pike Central. I simply do not know enough about them to doubt you. I did pull last years roster & noticed they had a very young team last year. Is the young talent from last year just that good? Who will be the key players for them next year in your opinion?

That team was pretty much Soph. and Fresh. last year and improved a lot as the year went on.
From over the summer -
Blackburn at 6'8" in the middle is much improved, Burnette is solid at the PG, Smith is athlertic at the3/4 and Tibbs was so far off the radar this year that people will be shocked with him. Clark is a shooter and has the genes to be a very good player. Fields is very athletic also.
Carwile is a better coach than most give him credit for.
E.R. is hyped because they may get transfers.

I hope you're joking about Pike Central........ Lawrence beat Pike Central by 17 over the summer. Don't try and say that they had players missing because they had every single person from the past season. Unless they've gotten amazing from 5 months, then i dont know....

Sheldon Clark will be one of the top 5 teams and a definite threat to make it to Rupp.
SCHS were regional runner-ups last year and return Coach Frankie Smith (best coach in this region & top 5 in the state) along with Parsley & James, who are both easy top 5 players in the region.
On second thought, don't give SCHS any love....keep dissing them....Frankie & his boys love being the underdog.

Pike Central also added a very good freshman core this year as well with Blake Wallace, Ryan Eads from Mullins, Danny Adkins and Seth Conn from Johns Creek and Micheal Conn from Millard and to go with the sophomores like Teddy Smith and Tyler Barnett and junior Ethan Blackburn looks like this team could be good for a few years.
10-30-2013, 09:15 PM
Betsy Layne will be very good this year. Veteran group that plays well together.
10-30-2013, 09:18 PM
Paintsville will always be a threat with BMR on the bench.
10-30-2013, 09:24 PM
Did SV get anymore transfers besides the standout they got with their coach? They will be very good especially if Belter is completely healthy this year.

region Wrote:They are pretty good and I don't read into a bunch of hype.Sorry, but there is no way Pike Central is # 2 in the region. With Lawrence Co. now in their district, they will be # 2 in their own district. Also, they may struggle to have a winning record this year.

Pike central can be one of the top teams in the region, they have as much talent as anyone.
They'll suprise the doubters.

Pike county bucked that idea about LC going to the 60th. Forget the idea of fairness, they just figured out that if they didn't block that move the region would have a legitimate threat out of the 60th plus 2 more out of the 57th district.
10-30-2013, 09:45 PM
Pike Central will / should be better. They've been playing young kids for a long time.

A big physical center is needed on any team to compete with JC, ER, & SV for sure. Unless I am forgetting someone, I don't know of another team in the region who has a legitimate "big man".
Sounds like Pike Central has the pieces in place. IMO, they could be a year away still. The youth of the team will be the only thing holding them back. I know a few of the guys fathers, and they was ballers back in the day.

Where are Sheldon Clark's home games going to be this year?

Coach Carwile would be an excellent assistant at the college level. His scouting reports are some of the most detailed things you will ever hear about. However, let's look back on last season....With Kasango out against Pikeville in the regional tournament, he sits Ethan Blackburn most of the second half? Unless Mr. Blackburn was sick, this never should have happened. I have yet to have anyone tell me that he was sick. Against South Floyd, in a close game that never should have been close he goes to full court press. Turns them over 4 straight times in the 4th quarter and takes the lead. He then goes away from the press and doesn't do it again? South Floyd wins in o/t. The loss of Gage Ray will hurt as well, Pike Central won't miss him cause he couldn't get on the floor for some reason, a reason that was never explained. Blackburn, Smith, Clark, Burnett and Fields are all good players and pretty good kids to my knowledge. There are some talented guys coming up as well. But if you look at Coach Carwiles track record, usually by the time a kid is a sophmore, he's looking to transfer or something. Don't know why, but it's facts. Wish those kids at PC a good year, hope they stay healthy and compete for a district title.

1st bolded part: could have been disciplinary reasons.
2nd bolded part: team may not have been conditioned enough to continue the press.
3rd bolded part: if he never seen the floor they will not miss him at all. I am not saying he is a bad player. Just saying if he didn't play they wont miss him.
I am not defending the coach either. I don't know enough about him for an opinion either way. Just saying these are logical reasons for what you have said. Not saying this was the case in any of them, but who knows.

I hope you are right about Prestonsburg. I am a huge Prestonsburg fan and do not see them as the #7 team in the 15th. I hope I am wrong.

Floyd county is very weak compared to the rest of the region it's Prestonsburg and Betsy Layne who will battle in the 58th...

The 57 district is really good ,with all 5 teams. I think Shelby valley and Magoffin Co are two teams to watch . I think Magoffin beat Sheldon Clark ,Lawrence twice last year, also beat Prestonsburgh twice last year and beat Pikeville. and got 4 starters back. Shelby Valley got a great player to transfer in, and got everybody back.

A lot of smoke and hype in this thread and from the coaches who ranked the teams in The Cats Pause.
Johnson Central is clearly #1 and the only two things that can derail them are internal problems - no indication they have had or ever will have them - or injuries/health barring some team playing a just ridiculous lights out game.
I think Pike Central will be very complete y the end of the year - if their fans get behind them and not blast a good coach constantly.
Lawrence is very, very talented but very young. They also have no post presence. Side not - some of their fans make it hard to like anyone from that area.
East Ridge has 2 solid guards in Miller and Wolter and a 3rd in Fields who is up and coming- is Wolter going to play the whole year or be gone, is he even practicing with them now - but what do they have after that?
Shelby Valley might be the 2nd most talented team in the region and looked great at times during the summer but how will SV react if things go not so smooth, an outside kid getting a lot of shots and Hicks is a good coach but abrasive at times.
Sheldon Clark has arguably the best point guard in the region in Parsley and a very good young player in Dillion James but outside that, they have what? They couldn't guard the post last year and with Rice at JC I don't know if they can now.
The rest of the teams have waaaaaaay to many flaws to even be considered.

Looking forward to some basketball. The Cats get it going tonight. Try not to judge a fan base based on what you read on the internet.
