Top Ten 1a games of the week of 10-03-13
#1
Well things are continuing to get more clear step by step. Who would have thought a couple weeks back that Raceland would have trouble with a team that Fairview had already beaten? Who would have thought that Beechwood would thump Holmes? Well we have another week of interesting games to come here. Without further ado, here is the top ten of the upcoming week:

1) 4a Cov Catholic #3 @ Beechwood #5
This is a annual match up with some bite to it. These 2 teams are almost always in the top ten and square off almost every year. Cov Catholic comes into this one off a disheartening loss to Highlands at 3-2 on the year. Beechwood comes in off a good win against 4a Holmes at 3-2. Can Cov Cath get back on the right side of things this week or will the Tigers extend their win streak to 2.

2) Bethlehem #9 @ Paris #12
This should be a dandy with a chance for these teams to solidify their claims to a spot in the top ten in 1a. Bethlehem comes into this one with a record of 5-0. Paris comes in at 4-1. The winner of this should earn a little respect from the rest of 1a and a little confidence going forward into district play.

3) Fairview #3 @ 3a Pike Co Central
This is another game to test the Eagles somewhat. The Eagles come in hoping to continue their undefeated streak. They enter at 5-0. Pike Co Cent comes in with a record of 3-2. This could be a real close game and would help the winning team around the time they need it most.

4) 5a Shelby Co @ Frankfort #11
This should be a good chance for Frankfort to claw their way back into the top 10 in 1a. Shelby Co being the bigger school comes in with a record of 3-1. Frankfort comes in with a well earned mark of 3-2. This would be a huge confidence builder for Frankfort if they pull this one out.

5) Hazard #7 @ 2a Prestonburg
This should be another barn burner for these teams. Both teams have lost some games this year they wish they had back. Both teams have a storied tradition and this game will mean a lot to the men in the mountains. Pburg comes in with a somewhat disappointing mark of 2-4. Hazard comes in with a mark of 3-2 and feels they could very well be undefeated at this point. I'm sure the hills will be a rockin for this one.

6) Bellevue #13 @ 4a Holmes #9
This is a chance for Bellevue to see how they stack up against their division rivals, the Beechwood Tigers. Beechwood just handled this Holmes team. Holmes should be a little testy after such a loss. Bellevue wants to prove they can play with the Tigers and now have a shot at that. Bellevue comes into this one at 3-3. Holmes enters at 3-2.

7) Nicholas Co @ 2a Pendleton Co
Nicholas is looking to get something rolling here as they are getting set for the district portion of their schedule. Nicholas comes in with a mark of 2-3. Pendleton is the bigger school but comes in with a similar mark of 2-4. This game should come down to the wire.

8) Lynn Camp @ 2a Clinton Co
These two teams find themselves in a similar position. They would both like to get a win before starting into the portion of their schedules that matter. Lynn Camp comes in to this one at 2-3. Clinton Co comes in a 1/2 game better at 3-3. This too could be a really good game.

9) 3a Knott Co Cent @ Jenkins
Both of these teams desperately need a win just when things are about to get serious on their schedules. Knott Co Cent is the bigger team and has a slightly better schedule. They come in at 2-3. Jenkins just needs a win period. They come in to this one at 1-4.

10) 2a Betsy Lane #13 @ South Floyd
South Floyd needs a win here a lot more than does Betsy Lane. Betsy Lane however could use the win to possibly convince some voters to move them into the top 10 in 2a. Betsy Lane comes in to this one with a mark of 4-1. South Floyd needs this one to build some confidence heading into the serious portion of their schedule. They enter this one at 2-3. The edge here should go to Betsy Lane, but that is why we play the game.

Well there you go folks. I am looking forward to another good week here in 1a football.

Eager to see how Bellevue does against holmes... Hazard may possibly lose to Prestonsburg because they will be without Brandon Jones but I still like hazards chances.
#7
Cov Cath/Beechwood is always a big game. Two top notch programs.
#8
Isn't amazing how all of our "little" schools can manage to find such great games and compete each and every week against the "big" schools.

Mysonis55 Guys like you keep 1A alive an from a 1A fan of Williamsburg thank you for posting your top 10 1A games of the week :thanks: now go drink some water :dogbowl:
#10
Thank u sir. It is after all where the best ball is played. You are asking kids to play multiple rolls every day and do it against teams that have many more kids to choose from and therefore get so much more rest. Iron man football.
#11
mysonis55 appreciate you putting this together every week.
#12
Next week 1A districts start and we can begin to sort out who the contenders are. A lot of teams will fall by the way side in the next couple of weeks.
#13
Good job 55. look forward to this.
#14
Thank you. In our case down this way, it will sort itself out in about 3 weeks.
#15
Williamsburg and Hazard's districts are so weak it will be the 3rd weak of the playoffs before that region takes shape.

I agree but we all know who will be playing that week!!
#17
Well not a real good showing for 1a so far this week. I expected Beechwood to make this a little more interesting.
#18
mysonis55 when does Mayfield play Russellville.
#19
Why is Brandon Jones from Hazard not playing?
#20
We have Russellville at home on the 25th.

Fairview has other problems than Jones. Their burner, King, broke his collar bone last night. That has to be a heart breaker for the kid. I hate to see a kid miss for injuries.
#21
Fairview may have lost King for the season. As it stands right now he is the 3rd leading rusher Avg 81 yds and 1 td/game. They would miss him more defensively. He is a very good DB who plays the pass well and the run even better. He is also one of the main leaders for that Fairview team. But he is a junio so he will atleast have next year to come back. Tough break for that kid and the Fairview team, wish him a speedy recovery.

I also heard via a post on the Fairview/PCC thread from Talon(generally a pretty factual source), that another RB left the team and one of the Lineman may be ot for awhile. Can anyone elaborate on either circumstance?

He has an concussion.. But he may play but I think he needs to sit out.
#23
That doesn't sound good for the Eagles. They barely got by Hazard at home and now losing 2-3 key players. King is what beat Hazard with punt and kick returns. If he didn't they were about to get drilled.

I have been trying to tell sports fans about pike county central. :welcome:
#26
64, looking at strength of schedule and results would say they are a little above average. Don't get your hopes up.
#27
Hope is.good coming from you mysonis55 Confusedhh: Confusedhh: Confusedhh:

64, Hazard is getting closer. It appears they can still win without their big boy.

Not hating, Williamsburg has alot of tallent. But imo they are 5th as it comes down to real contenders from the East. Right now I am saying:

Pikeville: they have beaten all comers minus a gery talented Belfrey squad, they still managed 20 pts on the pirates defense.

Fairview: Keeps finding ways to win, though the loss of King and a roll playing jr could weaken them a tad. The roll player was actually their 4th rb.

Hazard: Much like Fairview finds ways to win even w/o Jones. Their defensehas improved vastly as well.

Raceland: the only thing putting them ahead of Wburg is the fact that they r 4 pts away from being 6-0. If Beech plays against Lawrence, They probably win. Raceland is their biggest enemy. If they play with the offensive intensity we saw at Ashland and Coal Grove and the defensive intensity we saw against Ashland and Boyd Co, Raceland becomes a different team. But they have yet to put a full game together.

Williamsburg: Has the ability to score w neone, but muc like Raceland has yet to win a game they werent heavily Favored in.
