Belfry @ Harlan County 9/6
#1
Belfry visits Harlan County to play the Black Bears who wins?
#2
We better not put it on the ground 4 times...
#3
This early in the season with the young Pirate positional units...

Harlan County takes it..and may take it comfortably

May be a different story if it were Week 10..but Harlan County looks like a buzzsaw and may run all over belfry
#4
Harlan County wins this one.
#5
Harlan county 47
Belfry 13

well HC only give up 6 points so far, and probally in mop up roll,Belfry should score against there 1st team but will it be enough to get out of there with a W,i say chances not so good, but hope i am WRONG...
#7
Bears by 12. They are King of the Mountains until they are knocked off.

Guys I know belfry is young and Harlan is playing well right now but I think the mistakes and things will be fixed. This was the first game for a lot of first year guys for the Pirates. They now have the first game jitters out of the way and will be more focused on the task at hand next week. As for the 47-13 prediction. I don't think It will be that lop sided. Sure I'm pulling for my pirates but right now if I had to say. If Belfry plays like they did in the first half against Somerset they will get beat. And if THEY fix their mistakes and play BELFRY FOOTBALL then look for a good game.
#9
I think Harlan County wins by no less than 20.

Play this game in week 10 and than win by no less that 30 lol
#10
Harlan Co 35
Belfry 14

Three touchdowns better at this point. Belfry has some growing up to do in several positions but there is a lot of talent in that youth. Belfry will be ready come playoffs but Harlan Co is playing with a chip on there shoulder already! This is a 5A football team that feels they absolutley deserve to be playing in Bowing Green.
#11
I think the game will be a lot closer than 47-13. I'm more inclined to think about a score like 35-21.
#12
Belfry will be well coached. Haywood will keep them in the game, Belfry will have a good game plan and will try to grind the clock and keep it out of Harlan Co hands. Keep the young defense off the field and Work both fullbacks to death. Harlan Co going to see plenty of Hatfield and Fletcher as Belfry will try to set up Halfbacks for the veer.
#13
This is by far the GOTW in the mountains. This could be one of those games where it comes down to who gets the ball last. Or it could also be a complete dismantlement by one team(Harlan co.)
Make no mistake belfry will come to play. Plus the good folks of pond creek will come and see thier team play. Whom ever takes care of the ball the best will prob be your winner. But just like everything else we will just have to wait and see.

I expect one heck of a game out of these two teams. It will be worth seeing that is for sure.
IMO that filthy animal defense will stand the test and the black bears win 28-21.

This has all the making of a good ole slobber knocker!
#14
This will be a low scoring game.
#15
Harlan County will get theirs on offense. They are extremely productive and efficient.
#17
I absolutely do not think this will be a blow out on either side! I look for a hard fought smash mouth battle between two great mountain teams, and I cannot wait for next Friday night!!!

I agree whole heartedly with panthernation, even his score prediction. So bring it on Pirates!! We WILL be ready and waiting!

Fans, next week at Coal Miner's Memorial Stadium will be mountain football at its' very best! The Black Bear Nation is honored to host the Pirates of Pond Crik!!

Go Black Bears!!!!!

I never pick against the Pirates and won't this week, but in all reality I have told a lot of people that a 1-1 record in the first two weeks would be good for the Pirates. These are the type of games that Haywood loves. High level competition to expose weaknesses and not just some window dressing team to get an easy win. FYI Belfry had 6 freshman in the two- deep rotation on either side of the ball. Bentley started at TE and played both sides and Woolum was 5/5 on PATS. Hall, Horton and Catron all played a lot and Fletcher had 10 or 11 carries for 79 yards. BTW, Granny we look forward to the hospitality from the Black Bear faithful!!

Belfry simply does not have the size on defense to stand up to the relentless battering Larkey will bring. Harlan can win this game and never get out of the power I IMO.
#20
Even though Belfry has a young line and young linebackers they will have any kinks worked out and show up ready to play. Now, if HC can hang on to the ball, run their offense the way we know they can, then i think that Filthy Animal Defensewill hold their own. The strength, size, and speed of that defense is just an awesome thing to watch. This will be a barn burner for sure..

HC-35
Belfry-21

With both teams focus on the ground game I think this is a lower scoring game than most people expect. I think Harlan County has too much for Belfry. I'll take the Black Bears 28-7.
#22
Buc do you think Barnes plays both ways again this week? or do they just use him on defense? and what the time table for Taylor to return?
#23
Finesse, this is how i would describe the belfry team, when the nasty hitter on the team is the qb, when belfry can rely on coaching (except secondary)and skill players to win games, as was the case last night at cam they win most of those match-ups. The absence of confrontational, physical ball players will mean trouble for belfry this week. Last year theo-line from tight end to split tackle and all four linebackers could get as physical and nasty as anybody wanted to go, somebody is going to need to get an attitude for bhs to be complete. This could be a long brutal night for the pirate backs and defense. This week the pirates miss timmy may, but a few years ago belfry went to whitley county who were much like this harlan team and a finesse team dismantled them. Who could be belfry's thomas varney this year, carr, johnson or somebody else
#24
Should be a very competitive game good match up for both teams I take Harlan County 28-21. Closer than you think this is good for both schools.
#25
Close for a while but Harlan Co pulls away 35-14
#26
I watched the 2nd half of Belfry/Somerset online last night and they looked solid, but not great. These two teams play a lot alike actually and I believe this will be a hard fought game for sure. Home field advantage will be a big factor I believe and HC has more talented skilled players and should take care of business by 2, maybe 3 td's.

This will be a great game to watch , its going to be a close one.

Belfry 21

Harlan County 16
#29
Harlan County wins by 3-4TD's Belfry will not stop HC and I don't think Belfry will run over HC defense. Could be the fastest defenses I have seen!!

Emergency Room Afternoon.
