Ashland @ NewPort Central Catholic 8/23
#91
NCC how many starters are returning from last years squad? Don't know a lot about them but Ashland is 7-1 all time against them.

Looking forward to seeing this one. This early in the season a game like this is a toss-up. NewCath will have the edge because of the home field, but Ashland should be markedly bigger. Playing against larger schools is nothing new to NewCath. It seems to be the way they start every season lately, which only helps them when playoff time comes around. NewCath 28-14, but it won't surprise me a bit if it's a lot closer. Won't surprise me if it's a blowout, either.

If NCC is good enough to beat Ashland by your predictions. You somerset fans better prey they are banged up come semi final time. If not, You will be watching NCC go back to back 2A champs. They will only get better as the year goes on. I predict wins against cooper and CCHS. Possibly Dixie and Simon. They won't be 1-4 going into district. I'm less likely to pick them against Simon. 4-1 or 3-2.

No call on this game but I'll be rooting for Ashland.

They would be the underdog against 1-A Beechwood, too.

No argument I know beechwood has laid it on ironton a couple of times.
Bad year for Ashland!!!
How does NotSoBadCat and 3 of his Ashland fans change a light bulb.....?

They don't. They just talk about how great the other one was.
When is the last time they played? In the 50's?
I'll be there pulling for the Breds.
The Tomcats are in for a battle tonight.. Two great programs, tons of tradition on both sides. NCC is going to be tough at home but Im going with Ashland. Close game, Baker gets it done late.

Ashland 20
NCC 14
And Yes I would say without a doubt Ashland is the underdog here. Ashland fans shouldn't get over confident against smaller schools as Raceland (1A) left Putnam Stadium with a W three years in a row 06,07,08'. TCats better be ready for a battle at NCC.

"Great" is a vastly overused and watered down word. I am a supporter of NewCath. However, it is not a "great" program although they are a defending state champion. Ashland is certainly not a "great program". How long has it been since they got out of their region and, to be honest, will they ever get out of their region as long as they have to compete with Highlands and CovCath? Most likely, not in our lifetime.

In reality, including high school and college, there are only two "great" programs in Kentucky- Louisville Trinity and Fort Thomas Highlands. All others, including UK and U of L, are just along for the ride.

They don't. They just talk about how great the other one was.

That's ok it's only been about 10 years since they knew light bulbs existed in Johnson county.
Ashland's team speed will decide these game hopefully in our favor!!!

NewCath isn't slow.
I would guess that overall speed the edge would go to NCC.
:beer:Not so sure about that FBALL it will be an interesting matchup. The one thing I am sure about is #5 on our team will be the fastest kid on the field and the best player on the field and he is a soph!!!!!
Baker is good and probably the fastest kid. Overall speed though probably goes to the Breds
I actually think ashland is going to have to be physical and slow it down to win this game. Those NKY schools are used to all different kinds of speed.

I think all of the Russell fans got banned at that place including me. The only fans I see there now from around the Ashland area are Raceland Ram fans. They're just out for your 20 dollars over there and to rip you off.
