From sources at the school, the former Bath County Coach( 2005-2007 ) will be handed the job.
06-09-2013, 06:17 AM
The record for Bath those two seasons was19 wins and 36 losses. The 2005-2006 season does not list a coach but I believe it was Johnson.

I don't know about anyone else that is close to the team but, this choice seemed like it came out of left field!! They had several options closer to home that would have been better, IMO.

Totally agree, this is a friend of the principal.

Yeah, I found that out today. It would appear that this hire is more of a favor than because of his coaching ability and usually that doesn't turn out too well.

I don't matter who comes over to Beattyville, Jesus Christ himself would have a hard time winning in at that place. Just aint much talent running around. Brian Johnson will do as good as anyone that has ever coached over there.

Let's not get carried away. Heber Dunaway led Lee to the state tournament twice and was a few missed free throws away from the finals. And Over the last ten years, Danny Wright won 3 districts and an All A region. Lee county has had success.

I can guarantee you that this guy will not match the winning success that Danny Wright had at Lee Co.

No

I hear his is very nice, but not strong on coaching. Par for the course I guess.

As you should know, this is Lee Co we're talking about, not Clay Co so he might as well be our version of Bobby Keith. 4 District Championships and All "A" Region title is tops in the District for the time period he was our coach.

Would you like to wager on Johnson's success I pick lee near bottom of 14 th. Johnson record is not even comparable to Wrights he don't last long enough anywhere he's been, but he does have an excuse for each termination. It does help when you are a friend of the principal

Was it you or one of your "friends" that was runner-up?
I was told your "dislike" of Johnson is personal!
PS Not every assistant makes a good head coach...IMO

I would like to wager on the new coach. Give him 12 years and I bet he has a better showing than 145-171 (45%).
Several of my relatives have heard the buzz generated by the team since he took over. They are talking highly of him. The kids are the ones that will know. I want to see games, not blind opinions.

Lets be honest we both know the situation and the candidates . I know neither of the two finalists personally. But if the super wanted Johnson why not just hire him right away since this deal was done early on any way. Why the charade, he fits perfectly into the group and he came cheap a very important factor. Again I did not get the candidate I would have preferred but I also know I do not have any say into the decision my major problem has been the process in which the job was given to a friend . We can debate the qualifications if you want. The other candidate had many good references from winning coaches or championship level coaches that is what I based my opinion on. By the way the only buzz I hear is about two players leaving. So lets be honest here you and I know the situation here and I think we agree these are a good group of kids and deserve the best we can provide for them. So lets hope this is it. I am curious to hear your opinion. This is just mine

I personally got tired of all the negativity that was being sent out from you and your #1 Fan (Like) toward the coach. If there was legitimate concerns that's different. But, dogging the players, and the school started getting old for me.
I have inquired on your comment about kids leaving, 2 you said? My family said they haven't heard anything like that. They were bowling and a couple players came in and said things were great. Not sure about it. I'm in Ashland more these days.
Johnson was hired with pretty high profile players he coached in NC. Not sure if it was Marbury or Curry but either way, can't imagine the asst. coach at .......... had a reference like that.

Fact Check:
#1 Powell Co had 4 district titles to Lee Co 3
#2 Lee Co only had 3 not 4 district titles during his tenure
#3 IMO - He is not a Bobby Keith in any district, including the 56th
Especially with these stats (12 years)
Overall Record - 145-171 (45%)
District Record - 6-9 (40%)
Regional Record - 0-3 (loss avg. 16pts per) (0%)
8 Losing seasons / 4 winning seasons

But, dogging the players, and the school started getting old for me.First get your facts straight, I have never dogged these kids or any other from Lee, and as far as his so called NBA experience, he only stated he helped at the middle school when curry was there. Not exactly what was advertised during hiring. 1 year of experience of head coaching at high school boys and not a good year, he was forced out after one season, he stated as much said he didn't play the kids parents wanted played and he was let go. Funny thing the very next year same team went 20-5. Big improvement from his 11-18, maybe parents were right, looks like record proved stands for itself. Granted I don't believe a coaching change made that much difference, players mature, new talent comes in, other circumstances but there was at least a different attitude from the program. Again I have always supported the kids and will continue to fight for the kids, I believe they got shortchanged in this deal that's all it's not Johnson's fault or the anyone else just the admin playing good ole boy politics as usual. But if Johnson is so good why always cut loose and no head coaching stints since 07. Not exactly lining up to get him

I know personally a coach here in Ky that has numerous titles under his belt including a state championship highly recommending a certain asst coach. He stated one of the best young asst to ever work with. They worked together on a sweet sixteen run. But bottom line we will see at end of year. I hope for the kids sake it's a good year but I feel as a program we took two steps backwards. So I hope you can make it down from Ashland a few games and pull for bobcats I know I will. And as you are I am entitled to my opinion and I believe you are entitled to yours. This is mine

Yes, you're right, I did make a mistake. It was three district titles. What I meant to say or should have said is, it's tops in the District with its current alignment(Wolfe removed, Estill added 05/06).
