whats 16th going to look like next season
#1
Who's favorite?
#2
This will be Lewis County's year !:haters:
#3
I'm going to have to go with east-bc-Ashland-Lewis
#4
I'd say East will be favorite then Ashland or Boyd, the Lewis then Russell.
#5
Ashalnd
East
Boyd
Russell
Lewis
#6
IMO East will have the most depth and balanced good talent. Ashland and Boyd will each have several of the most talented players in the region, but not much depth. Lewis is going to be very good, but are losing 2 good senior starters and haven't yet reached a regional final. Not sure how Lewis will handle taking it to the next level (this is not a knock on Lewis, I just don't know the mentality of their players)

I think it will be:
East
Ashland or Boyd (toss-up)
Lewis

Just heard a rumor that makes me put Boyd back on top for next year.

It must not have been much of a rumor.....

I would say he is talking about the Webb girl from Greenup possibly transferring to Boyd but I think that's pretty much a dead issue now.

Word on street is that the Greenup coach has resigned.........They are the one and done in High school coaches.

Back to the Topic......Here is my Top 4

East Carter
Lewis Co.
Ashland
Boyd Co.

REALLY??? Thought he was in it for the long haul to build a program??? Any reasons given?

Those are probably the 4 best teams again, probably best to wait and see who transfer in or out for the rankings of each one!!
#14
Could be a fourth straight Ashland-B.C. final.

[quote=Coachinthestands]REALLY??? Thought he was in it for the long haul to build a program??? Any reasons given

Have not heard a reason why........and your right on He was in it for the long haul so he said, He even lured the girl from Raceland to join him at Greenup Co and leaves after 1 season.

Coach Cantrell is, without a doubt, one of the top basketball coaches on the girls side this region has seen in quite a while! Greenup was lucky to have gotten him when they did and should have done whatever it took to keep him! The girl's at Greenup are the ones that will pay the price. There is not a harder working and more dedicated coach coaching girls in our region today! Lack of administrative support and a total sense of apathy toward the girl's basketball program from many at Greenup is why Mark revaluated his situation and, given the time and effort (example: Elliott Co. we all know how that played out! In a very short time he had them in he regional championship game!) he gives to each of his endeavors, chose that it was in his and his families best interest to step down. If Cantrell had received proper support from the administration at GC, they would have been on the Cantrell 3 yr. plan for the state tourn.!
#17
No way was he going to take Greenup to the State in 3 years.
#18
If not I believe it could have been close, if you look at the area there's no powerhouse young group out there and greenup does have a couple good young ones.
#19
These posts are all delusional at best. Region is as weaker than ever. Up for grabs.

Is that you Coach Cantrell?:biglmao:
#21
Its a shame on how he left, at least be a man and tell your team instead of letting them feel deserted. These girls deserve that at least from you and your assistant.......There is more to it than just saying the AD would not work with you as why you resigned by email......Really ?

Was never impressed by his coaching and if you look at his record he was always at the bottom in DEFENSE in the 16th region.

Agree completely. The Rowan Co teams from the 80's would really physically hurt some of the teams there now. Not to mention the Kittens.
#23
The West Carter teams from the 90's would really dominate some of the teams right now. Not to mention the Lady Vikings.
#24
From 2000 on , the region has been well-represented. West carter- state champs. Rose Hill- state finals, Rowan Co. - state semis. Region is definitely not as strong as in those years. Should be a very competitive year however.
#25
This is not the 80s, 90s, or 2000s. This is now.....Ashland wins again.
#26
What's the word on greenup job. Who wants it
#27
hearing Anthony Gordon new coach at greenup.
#28
Who in the he$$ is Anthony Gordon and wht is the over under on HS stay? 3 years?
#29
Should be the usual suspects; Ashland, Boyd County, East Carter with Russell and Lewis County able to be pretty good as well. I think that Ashland and Boyd's experience in big games put them at the top though. Should be some great games for sure this coming season.
#30
My Greenup Co buddy tells me that Gordon is the new guy for Greenup......he worked in the Ashland program for several years before going to Chillicothe, OH to coach.

Welcome to the 16th Region.
