Clay County 7 Knox Central 3
#1
Final.. Tanner Hoskins went the distance and pitched a great game for Clay. Knox has a young, pesky team.

Great game all around by the Tigers!

Yeah, I guess you could say that about Knox, especially considering that they beat you guys last weekend 7-5.. They make al the routine plays, have a couple good sticks and pitchers that although they are not overpowering, they throw strikes consistently. Knox is young and they are actually growing on me, I have developed much respect for them in the early part of this season. Seem like a good bunch of kids too! They could be the team to beat in the region in a couple years if all these kids stick with the game..

If we wanted to hear a Harlan asshole talk we'd listen to a black bear taking a shit. Shut up

Uh oh! Pissed the legend off!! If Hoskins will keep his head on and stay healthy, he will be a hard man to knock off. Clay's hitting is better than I expected. No sluggers, but 5-6 pretty good hitters. Harlan Co is known for being choke artists, and well very overrated. I've heard about Boggs being the greatest thing since sliced bread since he was in 8th grade. Not sure him or HC have ever proven anything come postseason. Go Clay!

Clay's fate is going to rely a lot on health, Tyler Allen, making the routine plays, and being a team that plays til the last out. Allen has to step up as that #2 pitcher and give his team a big bat.

If Harlan is going to spend all that coal money on those nice facilities the players should start using it around region time in basketball and baseball. Maybe then they won't choke ever year..because that's what they literally do..every year. It's sad.

what a freakin asshole, where were you when we beat that clay ass last weekend?

You beat Clay County fresh, as you hadn't played in a week and they had played all week long. You aren't allowed to insult a legend until you at least win something besides second place. In Harlan your the bears..but to the 13th region, you're just the cubs. Be sure to use all that money on knee pads when you boys blow another game in the postseason when it actually matters.

Wow! This room is getting tough. From what I gather both Harlan Co. and Clay are good teams. But one thing that hasn't changed is animosity of their fans!

I will have to admit I only watched clay play southwestern pulaski this year and I was a little surprised how bad they was that game. I heard clay was pretty good. So to hear all the teams they have beat recently tells me they must have just had a bad game. That game looked like a varsity playing a bad jv team.

Bottom line Clay,Harlan co,South,North,Corbin, and Knox are all pretty good teams.Pitching rotation has alot to do with some games.Clay pitches 2 juniors,1 sophmore,2 8th graders. When Clay wants to play they can beat anyone.Harlan county has been impressive so far and will be a favorite along with South Laurel to win the region. But I would not want to play Clay County with Hoskins or Allen on the mound, and the other guys are getting better .Yes clay did lay an egg in the Southwestern game but this is a dangerous team.Good luck to all and smoke you a cigarette bobby it will be alright.

I think that sums it up pretty well.
South and HCHS are probably 1-2 at this point with Clay, North and Corbin right behind. I'd probably go with Middlesboro sixth. I'd be surprised if four of those six aren't in the regional semifinals.
Knox has been great for starting so many freshmen, but I don't think they have the maturity to beat top pitchers in a regional tournament. I expect them to win the 51st though and will be a top team in the region for quite a while in the near future.

Sorry guys steph made me watch a cheerleading video of runner up at nationals and got me too pumped up.

The thing that separates South from everybody else in the region right now is that they know how to win. I can guarantee that in a district and regional championship run there is going to be one game where teams just don't bring their best stuff. It's inevitable. Last three years are great examples. '10 Clay came out and gave up 8 to Middlesboro, but were able to battle back without using the big swing. They made things happen. '11 Clay struggled against South in the semis but battled through. '12 South got in to some huge jams in the semis but were able to battle through. That's what sets teams apart. Not saying the others can't develop this trait, but South is the only team that has proven that they can get it done. Region is all dependent on the draw. The winner that draws the 51st loser is in the drivers seat. Take Clay for instance. IF they win the 49th AND drew that loser they would be set with Hoskins and Allen in the semis and final. Definitely not two you would want to see when you would burn your gun in the opener. The same thing also applies to everyone. I think everybody can agree with this though. The 13th is as wide open as it has been in a very, very long time.
