Spring Break

Can someone explain how we can send teams to Florida to play other schools from Kentucky. This seems like the biggest waste of money ever.I do not have a problem with going but you should play teams from other parts of the country.

what's the difference in that and sending a football team or basketball team to camps where they either don't play anyone or they scrimmage other kentucky teams?

more than likely the trips south to florida are about WEATHER and the team spending a week together and growing together. nothing wrong with that. if the parents and boosters raise the money, why should you have the right to have an opinion? it's not your money. and if it is, and you are a parent, then simply don't pay for it and don't go if it's that stupid.

I have to agree somewhat. I am all for going to Fl. Play someone else. Football goes to camp within 50 miles of their house. Not a good comparison.

If I where a parent I would pay for the experience.....but play some of the local talent in Fl.

Here's some of the reasons:

- many of the Fla.schools are in the middle-end of their seasons

- many Ky. schools have spring break at the same time

- most Ky. teams who go to Fla. are part of some tournament or organized "Bash", which limits who you can play

This is a funny comparison considering football allows baseball to happen in many cases.
Ive always though the same thin insideinfo has. Its a complete waste of time to send a team to florida to play other teams from KY.
There have been several occasions where teams play team in florida thats within a 20 minute drive from there house.

It's all in where you go and how you set it up.

In 2010, Southwestern went to Cocoa Expo and played five games. Four were against teams from Kentucky. We decided that would not happen again.

We went to Tampa Bay Spring Training in 2012. Much nicer facilities and fields. Played five games and played only one team from western Kentucky that we never play any other time, because we requested that. We faced teams from New York, Virginia, Florida, etc.

It is a great experience for the kids but do your homework and make it worth the trip because it is an expensive endeavor.
