Final
Hangs on the Selection Committee's shoulder now...I think the wins over Florida and Missouri and the 21 win season might put them in the big dance but it's gonna be a long shot.
We'll find out Sunday

If I was Cal, I would deny the NIT if we don't make the NCAA.
lol that would be a disgrace to the program and to him.

If missiouri is on the bubble with 23 wins including 2 top 10 teams and Tenn is on the bubble who has won se games and beat UK by 30. How can UK possibly get in? You have to
Win road games and UK simply hasnt done that down the stretch. Last 4 games away from rupp were against mediocre to just terrible competition and they lost all ny 30, 13,10, and 16. Loses at home to Tex A&M and Baylor were bad too as well as Alabama loss. UK bad Noel for all of those home games I made add too.

I just don't see the cats making it.. Way to many bad loses to teams they should have beaten. Other than the Florida game last weekend the cats have really struggled down the stretch! If they get in great but IMO they are headed for the NIT and you can bet your ass I'll be cheering them all the way!!!! Goooo cats!!!!

Missouri is solidly in. They split with Tennesee. Kentucky does have wins over both of them as well as Florida and Maryland.
Yes the losses to Baylor and Texas A&M at home were bad. Which is why this team is on the bubble. They are schizophrenic.

No!
Im a realist.
Ive been telling you jokers this team has sucked since december.
Now that i hit it dead on and we wont even make the tourney, you have no reason but to finally agree and it eats everyone of you up.
This team is horrible, it sucked, and one of the worst hustle teams ive ever seen wear a UK uniform. You all can deny it until the end of time, but i called this one right on the button.
Have fun watching the NIT, I wont even turn the TV on for another game this year.

If Kentucky gets a bid now, there are going to be thousands of angry fans of teams across the country who deserved a bid but were denied. If an NIT bid comes its way, UK should be thankful and graciously accept it. Calipari needs to explain to all of the potential NBA draftees that none of them are ready to move up to play the men yet.
The truth is, if Cal tells these guys that there is no room on next season's roster, then recruiting will suffer down the road. I still remember how Eddie Sutton and UK through Eric Manuel under the bus and how shabbily Rick Pitino treated Roderick Rhodes when he decided that he was not ready for the NBA. Rhodes played as hard as any UK player ever has but he choked late in several games and cost UK some wins, so bye-bye Rhodes. You can bet that the folks in Macon, GA, and Jersey City have not forgotten how those guys were cast aside after being given what were expected four-year rides.
Anybody who thinks that UK should wipe the roster clean and just forget this season is not thinking clearly. What I remember is that Michigan's Fab Five never even won a Big Ten title during their days in Ann Arbor. Maybe UK can win a title with the incoming recruits, but ask yourself this, "If you were the son of one of the top high school players in the country, would you want them to accept a UK scholarship knowing that if he struggled as a freshman, he would have the option of rolling the dice on the draft and finding a new school after one season?"
Young players at all levels tend to get too comfortable after big wins and too down after big losses That is why teams who rely on them often struggle on the road. This UK team has no depth and very little experience. The players who return next season will face competition for playing time in every practice and every game because of the influx of new talent - and that will help next season's freshmen as much as it will help this season's under performers.

I want a guard who can play! Got tired of watching guys trying to go one on two, three, four, and even five one time and not pass the ball off to open players! The most frustrating UK team I have ever watched!
03-16-2013, 10:26 AM
^ I'm not concerned about angry fans, we see that every year. We will hear Joe Lunardi, Jay Bilas and Dickie V do what they do every single year, and that is complain about how some team got screwed over and left out of the tournament. Who cares. If you want to fix what is probably the very best system is college sports, then do what Baseball, Tennis, Swimming and every other non-TV sport in the NCAA does, and allow every single team enter into the tournament. Otherwise, if UK knocks out Middle Tennessee State, so be it! If Middle Tennessee knocks out UK, well, we play in the Not In Tournament

I don't know how the selection committee will look at Kentucky, and honestly I don't think they will get in after the poor performance last night.
BUT, there is still room for optimism. Let's take a look at a few of the past teams...
2000 - The team finished with a 22-9 record going into the tournament, including an ugly 86-72 loss to Arkansas in the first round of the SEC tourney. UK made it in. They make the tournament as a 5 seed and defeat St. Bonaventure in OT before losing 52-50 to Syracuse in the second round.
2002 - Tayshaun Prince's senior year - the year UK began the season 4th in the nation before a 64-52 loss to Western Kentucky at Rupp Arena put a damper on those expectations. Team turmoil led to a 5-4 finish on the regular season for this Kentucky team that had a lot of injuries and distractions off the court. After losing 70-57 in the first round of the SEC tournament to South Carolina, this 20-9 Kentucky team still made the tournament before losing to Maryland in the sweet 16, 78-68.
2006 - This team finished up with a 22-13 record and a second round loss to UConn in the NCAA tournament. They had two stretches during the regular season where they lost three games in a row, including a couple of real ugly losses such as a 73-46 loss to Kansas, a 79-53 loss to an Indiana team that would later go on to a stretch where they lost 7 of 8 games, and two 15 point losses to Florda, who won the title that year. Despite their poor performances at stretches during the season, this team still made the tourney.
2007 - After Tubby Smith made a few roster changes and Rondo departed for the NBA, there was still optimism with the return of Randolph Morris, Joe Crawford, and Ramel Bradley. After a 15-3 start, this team limped its way to the SEC tournament, winning only 5 of their next 12 games. They lost in the second round to Mississippi State in OT. The Cats had a 3 point lead near the end of regulation, when Sheray Thomas had a lane violation on a Jodie Meeks made free throw. The game went to OT and Kentucky lost. However, despite the 21-11 record, the team still made the tournament before losing 88-76 to Kansas in the second round.
2008 - Billy Gillispie's first year at Kentucky featured a team that finished 18-13 with a first round loss to Marquette. This team made the tournament despite an 84-68 loss at Rupp to Gardner-Webb, an 81-72 loss to San Diego at Rupp, a 79-76 loss to UAB in Freedom Hall, and an ugly 83-69 away loss at Houston. They also had blowout losses to UNC (it was only by 9, but game was much worse), to UL, and Indiana. The team had a strong performance in the SEC finishing 12-4, but lost Patrick Patterson (who was averaging 17 points and 9 boards a game) late in the year due to injury. Remember that there was no Cauley-Stein to back up Patterson - their backups were Perry Stevenson, walk-on Mark Coury who transferred to Cornell and played limited minutes, and 7'2 Jared Carter. Other than Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford, the starters were Michael Porter and Ramon Harris. Porter decided not to play his last year of basketball after the season, and Harris and Stevenson played very few minutes when Calipari came to coach. The only notable loss in SEC play was a 93*52 loss to Vanderbilt at Vanderbilt and finished with a 12-4 SEC record, but a 60-56 OT loss in the first round of the SEC tournament did not help Kentucky's cause.
2009 - After a 111-103 loss to VMI at home and a blowout loss at UNC, Kentucky surged its way to a 16-4 record that included a 7-0 start in the SEC, lifted by the strong play of Jodie Meeks and Patrick Patterson. However, chemistry issues and Billy Gillispie's questionable habits eventually got the best of this team, as they limped their way to a 3-8 finish, which included losses at home to South Carolina, Mississippi State, and a Georgia team that was much worse than the one UK recently lost to. It didn't help that the SEC was way, way down that year. The best team that year was LSU, and they weren't even top 15 material. After losing to LSU in the second round of the SEC tourney, Kentucky went on to the NIT and lost to Notre Dame in the semis, ending a big winning streak against Notre dame. Kentucky finished the year 22-14.
Whether or not the selection committee will pick Kentucky, I'm not sure...but, here are some facts from the recent-past to ponder.

Love getting #8 last year and Cal has taken this program back to the National spotlight but I have problems with him not getting more players that can play. He needs to fill out the roster and have a damn bench. Hood and Poulson will graduate early and free up 2 more scholarships which he needs to use. Tired of looking at the bench and seeing 5 bench players with 3 of those as walk-ons!!!

Yeah Kentucky will just because of their fans that travel everywhere. I dont think it really matters one game is all they will be there anyway though. I just feel other teams have a better resume. Im a fan of having key road wins and winning down the stretch.
