scbmike1 Wrote:[COLOR="Blue"]Coach Randy Davis is a great coach and a even better person. He would do a wonderful job wherever he was given the oppurtnity.

To say the only reason BL and Virgie have had sucessful MS programs is because they were older than everyone else is just wrong. But eveyone is entitled to an opinion. It would be more truthful to say that Virgie and BL have been sucessful because their holdbacks were better than the other schools. Just to name a few BL, Virgie, Dorton, EC, Belfry, Wesley, Adams, SF, Mullins, Pikeville, Allen Central, Allen, Milliard, and Johns Cr. Not throwing off on any of these schools at all. As you can see there are not many schools that have not had kids retained and thats just in 2 counties.

Randy Davis is the best middle school coach in Pike County, hands down and would be an excellent coach at the high school level after an adjustment period.

That is where our agreement ends.

Pike County as a whole has just got on the holdback train. Yes Virgie and to some extent Dorton and Pikeville have been doing it a long time. Doesn't make their coaches any less of a coach. Heck Varney and Turkey Creek did it years ago.

But lets get into some facts.

A few of those schools you mentioned that have got on the holdback train won because they were bigger, faster, and stronger because of their age. I've watched 15th region basketball and middle school ball for dang near 20 years and some of you guys that "think" your big time coaches and constantly undermine/talk about your high school coaches need to get in the real world. Without the age advantage and the size/strength that comes with it you would be lost.

You would get ATE ALIVE coaching at the high school level. Some of you really have NO CLUE as to what it takes to coach and win at that level and you never will.

I'll tell you what's wrong with Shelby Valley...Coaching. Ky headhunter, you can sit here and talk abou hold backs all you want. Everyone and every team is doing it. There's nothing wrong with it. It's legal so stop whining about it. It's not your place to judge kids on holding back. It's their parents. Your not their parents so it's not your decision to tell someone or imply to someone on how to raise their kids. If holding back makes for a good basketball team then by all means do it. No one asked you or cares when you graduated. You prob rode the bench in high school based on your knowledge of sorts anyway. And look what your comparing people too. Karl towns and Noel to kids around here? What's wrong with you. A d for knott co. Hold backs. Their phenom Cameron justice and Simon Christian held back. (2 starters in their team). But I'm done arguing with your ignorance. Valley is loaded with talent and with the right coach could honestly be dangerous. It's not the kids lack of skills causing them to lose. They are just inconsistent. They will beat ER tomorrow & like panther thunder said could easily beat Pikeville thursday for the district title determining if they play to their capability. Dont be suprised it if it happens cause I won't be. Not everyone knows what's happening on the "inside" of valleys program. As bad as we may want them to win its not on us. We can't do nothing about it, they have to do it theirselves. Also won't be suprised if there is a coaching change by next season. Team is to talented to lose this much and it's not completely their fault.

[COLOR="Blue"]If everyone is and has been doing it, does it not come back to the statement I made earlier about team A's holdbacks are just better than team B's?

I am not trying to defend my coaching ability or lack there of, because it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks, like i said everyone has an opinion.
Its about the kids and they are the ones I will defend. Our teams have worked just as hard as anyone. do not deserve being put down or bad mouthed because our 13, 14 and 15 yr olds were better than some others at same age.

I wouldn't be surprised if Valley lost to East Ridge tonight.

Always the coaches fault, never parents or the kids. Seems so odd and unlikely to me....
