Clay Co. 64 Jackson Co. 63
#1
Big win for Clay Co., this "W" should put Jackson and North playing in the first round.
#2
Congratulations to Marcum and the TIGERS!
#3
Congrats to Clay Co.
#4
Big loss to Jackson Co when Wagers went down early in the 2nd qtr with an ankle injury. He didnt return.
#5
Jackson is a nice team and played better without Wagers services. Hopefully he is back before district as Jackson needs his size to get by North. Good game, good sportsmanship and a great atmosphere at Jackson County's new gym.
#6
OK. Help me with your 13th Region ratings logic.
A three-point loss by Harlan County to Barbourville "is shocking and can't be overlooked," but a one-point win over Jackson County proves Clay County is clearly the best team in the region.
#7
Have you watched Jackson County play? They are as good as anyone in the region. Consistently, probably not. The refs kept them in it but Jackson is right there. Clay, Harlan, Jackson, Corbin I think are probably the top 4.
#8
That may be the top four, but then again both Jackson and Barbourville lost in the All "A" semifinals. Jackson lost to Pineville and only beat Barbourville by two.
#9
Yea and? All the teams have lost. There is no consistent team in the 13th. The team that I think has the best chance to win it all is Clay. Then I throw Harlan in there cause its at home. Then probably Jackson. I don't think Corbin has enough to win it. I think Knox is still a sleeper with a healthy Barger and even North if they can get my Jackson, even though they have had a dismal year.
#10
The Jackson Co. team that played tonight was not a top 4 team in the region. Way too many careless turnovers. Poor shot selection and just poor play overall. We could not believe that it was a 3 point game inside the last minute. Fox spends so much time trying to get his team going that it looks like he dont realize that he is the best player on the floor. He should have taken over this game in the 3rd qtr.
#11
Clay is one of the top 4 teams in the region but keep them off the boards and they are very beatable.
#12
Not sure what you were watching Hoops town. Both these teams are top 4 imo and very well could end up in the region finale. The refs kept the game close putting Fox and JC on the free throw line. Clay's Reed has just had a disappointing year. If he would step up, that would free up a lot for the rest. Much respect to both teams, they both will be hard to take down.

Harlan County is a contender only because it's at Harlan County?
#14
I put HC at #2 because its at HC. If not I'd probably say 3-4. Just not sold on them. With the easy schedule they play and the senior dominant squad they should be 24-1. It is wide open people. This 13th region tournament could be totally unpredictable. Heck, don't count out OBI, Harlan Ind, Red Bird and Lynn Camp!
#15
Clay County is 18-6 with six seniors (four starters)
HCHS is 20-5 with five seniors (four starters)
#16
Clay County actually has 7 seniors even though only 4 are in the rotation. Clay's schedule has definitely been more
challenging. HC beat Clay by 10, but CC was extremely defeated after losing the heartbreaker to Perry and Reed didn't play. On a neutral floor I say Clay is 5-8 pts better. At Harlan, its probably closer than that. Regardless its going to be a great tournament and I expect these two to be in the mix.
#17
Harlan County Black Bears will be headed to Rupp Arena after winning the 13th Region.
Not so fast my friend, here is the region rankings:
1) Harlan Co.
2) Clay Co.
3) Corbin
4) North Laurel
5) Knox Central
6) Jackson Co
7) Bell Co.
#18
clay co.was the better team last night, they had a few turnovers, but nothing compared to jackson county.jackson county didn`t take care of the basketball at all, id bet they turned it over 25 times, maybe more.if jackson county is a top team in the 13th.i don`t know how, clay`s half court offense looked good lot of good passes and layups in the paint
#19
Layups in the paint came when Wagers got put down in the 2nd and Fox should have took over earlier but usually when he gets Hammonds and Lawson the ball it's an automatic lay up.

Okay.....I was taking you serious until the last part!:what:

It was just a joke LOOKAYANNER!! Just having a little fun.

Clay got alot of score in the paint because there big when down and I see that eky was quick to say the ref keep Jackson in the game but when Jackson had clay down by 11 at clay he didn't say the ref brought clay back to win the game McDaniel shot 13 free throw so funny lol got to give eky credit he is a true tiger fan.:biglmao:

Very true.
There is always a reason when something goes wrong for Clay, but Clay never catches a break it seems when he's posting.
Clay was depressed after the Perry game so they didn't play well against Harlan County. I've never heard of a Clay team doing that, but he knows them better than me.
I agree that Clay is one of the top teams, but I think several teams are in the mix.
#24
Yea I'm a CC fan, also of a fan of good players. Clay took advantage of the mismatch inside and capitalized. McDaniel actually got fouled and his 3's were what got Clay back in the game. The refs wanted to keep the game close and that's fine. Props to both teams, it was a fun one to watch.

My mistake. I forgot that the football lineman showed up late.
Isn't Travis Smith still in the rotation? He played a lot in the Harlan County game. I think it was him and Blake Smith and Wes Wolfe coming off the bench earlier in the season.
#26
Smith is no longer really in the rotation. The two freshman played about 8-10 mins yesterday. T. Smith can still provide mins if needed but I don't see him playing much of a role.
#27
Many forget that KC played Clay early in the season with both teams healthy and Knox beat Clay by 6 but led by 10 or so a lot of the 4th quarter. I know this was early in the season but still, both teams were "healthy" and "fresh"... If North stays healthy, they could also be a team to reckon with.. Don't count out Coach Sizemore... I have watched all these teams play and could easily say that it is a four team race this year.. Clay, Harlan Co., KC, and North... This just solely depends on the health being there for all 4 teams.
