Clay County 57 Bell County 55
#1
McDaniel hits game winner for Clay with 1.7 left on the clock. Good fight by the Bobcats.
#2
Should we consider Bell Co as a threat to win the 13th?

They beat one of the top dogs of the region (HC) and it took a last sec shot by the other big dog to beat them.

Congrats Clay Co.
#3
There are no big dogs in the 13th. A bunch of mediocre teams. Harlan and Clay the only two that actually have pretty good team talent.
#4
To begin the season most people had Harlan County, Clay County, and North Laurel in some order. After playing almost 3/4 of a season, I believe it is clear there is two top teams. With about 4 others that could make a run. If everything sets up, you should see the Black Bears and Tigers duke it out for all the marbles. Of course, watch them meet up in the second round. Smh. Jackson County, North Laurel, Bell County, Knox County, etc. are all capable to do something.
#5
Every team that gets in the region will have a slight chance of bringing the title home.
#6
Don't count Middlesboro or Pineville out either my friends!!!!
#7
Didn't count them out at all. Bell, Harlan and Middlesboro can't all get in. Going to be some interesting district play this year!
#8
Congrats Clay Co.
#9
Good win Tigers
#10
How many did the Potter kid have in this game? I do not believe he was rated one of the top 10 players in the region. I would put him in my top 5, at this point in the season.
#11
Congrats to Coach Marcum and the Tigers!
#12
I think Potter had 15-17. He's definitely top 10, and maybe top 5.
#13
Bell is starting to get it together, they are such a young team, most of the game they had 3 freshman out on the floor, Coach Morris has to get a little credit for getting them to play so hard. Bell lost one of its top players in the second qtr with a sprained ankle, I hope he is not out long because Bell is starting to gel at the right time, Bell doesnt lose anybody for next year so the future is very bright for the Bobcats.
#14
Bell must be starting to put it together. Lewis does a great job with the kids and they may make some noise come March!!!
#15
Coach Morris is probably the best in the 13th. This year really proves it. They will be a real solid team next year and it wouldn't surprise me if they made a run this year.
#16
Bell Co. has two of the best one on one players in the region (Potter/Patterson). Both of those kids can score from any spot on the floor. When you have two kids like that on one team in the 13th, you can be pretty good. Those two players are very hard to guard in a man or zone.
#17
Not sure I'd go that far. Potter is a really nice high school player, definitely among the top 10 players in the 13th. Asher had a good game for Bell as well. Clay should have won the game by 15-20 but they were ice cold from outside and didn't play with much intensity until the 4th quarter.
#18
dont know what game you watched, but to say they should have won by 20, c'mon man. Bell had a lot to do with the way they shot, hell if Bell could have got just one or two of the calls that went Clay's way, nevermind, C'mon man.
#19
C'mon man??? Bell is a mediocre team at best. They have one player and a few solid, young role players. They have a nice coach that had a nice game plan. Reed from Clay was 0-7 or 8 from 3 pt, McDaniel 1-4. Clay is at least a 20 pt better team than Bell as is Harlan. But when you play hard, and have a good game plan, along with make shots you can compete, like Bell did last night.
#20
This region is wide open I dont care if it is at Harlan County. Corbin,South Laurel even Jackson County has a chance this maybe the second weakest region in the state outside the 15th.
#21
C,mon man, i dont beleive i said that Bell was a top team in Region, you said Clay should have won by twenty if they hit their shots, hell you would win every game if you hit all your shots lol, Clay, Harlan Co should be the favorites in the region but both teams are very beatable.
#22
Agreed with you CatBlue on Clay and Bell being favorites. But yes they both are beatable. If Clay has a "normal" shooting night they win by 15. They shot terribly and Bell shot it well.
#23
agreed, but you got to play the game every night or you could get knocked off
#24
There are weaker regions out there than the 13th, playing beside Transfer Central, I mean 14th region makes it look worse. There are some areas out there that couldn't hang with a Clay County or Harlan County. They'll have just one really dominate team that can compete for a state title with a bunch of sub par teams behind them. The 13th will get back, trust me. The best players to me are pretty much all underclassmen.
#25
I agree with most of that, especially the comment on the 14th.
I think there are quite a few good seniors though. Harlan County starts four, and I think Clay, South, Pineville and Middlesboro do, too. North and Corbin start three or four seniors each.
#26
The talent in the 13th is mainly underclassmen.
#27
Most of the top players are seniors.
The freshman class last year was pretty weak overall except for McDaniel, Barger and Baxter and the HCHS group that won the region. KC has two nice sophomore guards.
I haven't seen a lot of impact freshmen this year. The post player from KC is good. Clay has two guards who are playing a lot.
#28
I just don't see that much talent in the senior class. I see a lot of pretty good players but nobody that is a standout.
#29
No Mr. Basketballs, I agree.
Isn't Clay the strongest in its senior class though?
The best player is a sophomore, but I saw Clay's freshmen team last year.
There weren't many good ones in the region.
#30
Clay has 4 sr starters. 2 of them have had disappointing years thus far. Bowling is as good as any 6'3 forward in Eastern Ky in terms of rebounding and putting it in. I just think of Fox, McDaniel, Allen, Barger, Potter, Baxter, and some of the other really good players with high potential.
