12th Region Paricipation in WYMT
#1
Is it time for WYMT to start including the 12th Region in the WYMT Classic. Do the cable systems in that area carry WYMT? And is it time for WYMT to start including teams from the 12th in the WYMT Classic? Thoughts. Comments.

It would be nice to see the 3 Pulaski Co. Schools in, also Wayne Co.

The 12th Region is not a true mountain region in my book.

Part of the 12th is in Wymt viewing area.

WYMT now has some of these teams in their weekly mountain top ten. Just saying if they are in the poll shouldn't they also be included in the tournament. Peace be among us. Brother Cecil.

It's really a debatable topic. I for one don't think 12th region teams should be involved with the Mountain Top Ten. There is some really good basketball played in that part of the state however. I feel like WYMT jumped on the Rockcastle County girls' bandwagon a few years ago. I may be wrong, I don't remember 12th region teams being consistently in it before then. Every now and then you would see a Southwestern highlight. I for one think they were scrapping an iceberg when they put North Laurel in it. Anybody who is a true mountain person, knows the mountains stop past Clay County. Just sayin'.

Would be nice to see these Pulaski and SW Pulaski teams in it with Hazard, KCC,PCC, Clay. a healthy Johnson Central team and one of the other 13/14/15 teams

It would be nice, but that mountains are a long way from Pulaski County. I think it would be more harm, due to the cost of travel and such. It would be great, but I think it should just be a "mountain" thing.

I think this is a good point by Brother Cecil. Looking at this from a geographical standpoint there are elevations in Wayne and McCreary counties around 2000 ft. But from a cultural standpoint the 12th region is not a true mountain region. I personally would like to see the inclusion of the 12th region just for the competition. I do beleive one of the main reasons for our poor showing in the state tournament is due to a lack of competitive scheduling. So I say let them play it can only make our teams better.

Early on 12th Region teams were invited to the WYMT Tournament. For one reason or another the top teams chose not to play. During this time WYMT even presented scholarships to students in the 12th Region despite the lack of a 12th Region team participating.

This later changed.

I think it would be a good idea to let Pulaski Co, Southwestern, Somerset and Wayne,Co play in it the only issue is the 2 hour bus ride to Perry and 2 and half to Hindman, I dont know why Corbin and South Laurel havent been in it more. Thay may have been asked but maybe declined it. And for the 12th region tems to be here how many fans would drive this far to watch from monticello and somerset?

That is probably one of the biggest drawbacks. Would the fans drive that far to watch the games. But some of these teams do play each other in football occasionally especially in the playoffs and the fans seem to follow. No doubt it would increase the quality of competition in the tournament. Peace be among us. Brother Cecil.

Still no one has answered the question do these cable systems in this area carry WYMT? Probably one of the biggest determinants to the T V station. Peace be among us. Brother Cecil.

Pulaski Co. does carry WYMT on cable.

Allow the 12th region teams in whose counties are covered by WYMT. Simple solution IMO.
#16
If we do that, then we should just go ahead and include the 16th too shouldn't we? We would be able to have the top 8 teams in 5 regions for a great tourney. Heck just include all the regions.
#17
Also, I think some of you are making too big a deal out of travel distance for schools such as Pulaski County's three.. For a tournament with the tradition and exposure of the WYMT, fans will travel. Did it stop Knott and Perry fans from driving to Lexington for the Christmas tournament they were both participants? If the tournament is big enough and important, the fans will be there.

Include the 16th region schools who are in the WYMT coverage area. There's probably not too many in that region, though, that are covered by WYMT. Maybe Elliott County???

I agree that Pulaski County is not a "mountain" county, though. But half of Laurel County is very mountainous, and Wayne and McCreary counties are definitely mountain. So is Rockcastle. Just my opinion. So, if the criteria were changed to invite geographical mountain schools within the WYMT coverage area, then all those could be included, but not Pulaski.
