Experience pays off as Bears roll past Bell in district tilt

A former all-state guard himself at Cumberland in the 1980s, Lewis Morris knows as well as anyone the value of an experienced backcourt. He's just getting a little tired of looking at Harlan County's senior trio of Chad Massingill, Alex Sergent and Tyler Brewer.
"Dang, that same bunch has been playing for four years, ever since we won the region," Morris said. "They are a lot farther along than we are now. They have good guards and their post players work hard. They just took it to us. They have a good club. We're young and a little inexperienced. They come out and punched us in the nose, and we let them do it. Our kids have to grow up.
"They have to play as hard as they can all the time, and I thought they got punked a little tonight. They got scared a little bit."
Massingll, coming off a six-point performance Saturday at South Laurel, bounced back with a 22-point effort against the Bobcats to lead Harlan County to its eighth win in eight games.

The Bears also got huge performances off the bench, led by sophomore guard Zach Wilson, who hit three of three from beyond the 3-point line for 13 points. James Bond added 12 and Sergent contributed 10.

Junior guards Tyler Potter and Jake Patterson carried the offense for Bell County (2-4) with 21 and 14 points, respectively.

Harlan County returns to action Friday at 11:30 a.m. against Whale Branch, S.C., in the Seahawk Holiday Classic at Hilton Head, S.C.

Saw Bears a couple of times this yr. and they have a really nice team. Good bet they will break that string of losing in 1st round of reg. tourney.
#6
Good win for Harlan Co. against a Bell team that played Perry Central a good game.
#7
Nice win for the Bears. This team can go deep which is different from past teams. By the end of the year the Black Bears will be a hard out.
