Grant County?
#1
Is grant co a real contender for the 8th region or more this year, they are off to a 5-0 start with an impressive win at Simon Kenton. Thoughts and opinions..
#2
No, if Collins doesn't win the 8th region it will be a monumental upset.

Grant County has 1 senior in their top 9, their 2nd leading scorer, their year to win the region will be next year.
#3
Grant county only lost to Collins by 7 in the first scrimmage of this season, i believe they could give Collins a real run by the end of the season, but I agree Collins will be hard to beat and grant should have a good chance next year

Grant plays as hard as any team. They lack in size but have good depth. Their senior is by far their best player maybe not best scorer but he is unbelievable on defense however in the win against Simon Kenton Simon had three key players out i am interested to see how far they will go
#5
Grant vs Collins in the regional championship!
#6
The 8th will go through Oldham Co again, mark it down
#7
Grant co is a one man show. They will be lucky to win thier distric.

Shows what you know about basketball!

One thing is for sure, Jim Bob Hicks will have Grant Co ready to play night in and night out. He gets the most out of every player he has on the roster.

Grant County can win the 8th region!Coach hicks is an amazing coach! And they are very talented team!Under Tyler Carr's leadership, this team is good!

:thatsfunn Collins yes, Grant no. I think S. Oldham and Oldham will have something to say about that. Might wanna wait building any trophy cases, combined record of the teams you have played so far is 13-32.

Whatever!You wish!
#13
Not with Jim Bob Hicks as head coach.

^ Clever comeback. Lots of logic there.

Grant county has one good player that not going to win them the region. And I don't think grant will win they district

Don't sell GC short! I agree that they lack a true inside presence to take the load off Tyler but they do have some other kids that can put it in the hole. A regional championship is a stretch I agree but winning the district is a very real possibility. Simon Kenton has not been able to shut Tyler Carr down the last 2 meetings dating back to last years District Championship game when he put up 30 and on Dec.7 this year when he poured in 41.
#17
We will see i bet oldham county dont make i to the championship.

dont act like owen co is goin anywhere this year, all they have is carson
#19
Just let them enjoy the start of a good season. Let's not put too many unrealistic expectations on them.

Trenany.Williams. Shelton. Ball. See unlike grant county we are considered to win our district ever year. That what better coaching and players get you on the hardwood and the girdiron.:eyeroll:

Southwestern 80, Grant Co 42....ouch.

They can possibly win their district, but they come from the weakest district in the region, based on regional tournament performances since realignment. When was the last time a 32nd district team won an 8th regional tournament game....2007 or so?

And what's up with the scheduling? Beating Calvary Christian, Shawnee, Villa Madonna, Bracken Co, and Beechwood will build a gaudy record, but it isn't exactly going to prepare them for the regional tournament.

I agree, their schedule is very weak. They may win their district, but I would be shocked to see them do much more than that.

SK won't lose another district game(regular season or tourney). Remember the post!

Hicks coached one year at our school. We are a small school, enrollment around 250, but have always tried to play some of the bigger or competitive schools in our region. The first thing he wanted to do was drop Knott Central, Perry Central, Hazard, etc.. and pick up Piarist, Riverside Christian, and other weaker programs. He was only there for one year and then moved on to Greenup County, so he didnt change the schedule much. But he was going to if he had stayed around. A weak schedule is great if one wants to build up a good looking won-loss record, but not so great if you're trying to get better for the post season. It probably is more benificial to a team to lose by 15 to a Perry Central than it is to beat Riverside by 40.

Jim bob is no BILLY! I guarantee!

Guess who won a team not one player.
#27
Well, Owen defeated Grant Co 48-54. Not bad for a one man team against the unsinkable Grant County.
#28
Ok grant had a horrible night shooting not to mention the horrible ref-ing. I look for grant to win by 10+ when Owen comes to grant. Grant is not a one man team. Tyler is undoubtably the leading scorer but don't look past Austin anglin, Aaron hicks, or Logan cummins. All these players can hit shots

Complaining about the refs in the 8th is a cop out, cause 90% of them are awfull. Was it Grant's "bad shooting" or did Owen play good "D". :lame:
#30
Exactly! I've never left an 8th region game without thinking the refs were terrible. And making excuses for a team doesn't do anything but hurt yourself/your team. Owen outplayed Grant. End of story.
