Allergic Reactions?
#1
Well this entire week I have been sick and it has gotten worse..
I ended up having an allergic reaction to something and didn't know what it was.. It was very scary..
My legs, arms, and stomach broke out in hives all over me..
Went to the doctor and they didn't know what to say..
Asked me if I had changed shampoos, deordant's, soaps, etc..
And to be honest I have done nothing different than usual..

So they gave me 50mls of Benadryl and a shot of some type of steroid, the hives went away in minutes.

A few days later I start eating dinner it was chicken, mashed potatoes, and mac-n-cheese..

I broke out again after the dinner..

It went away..

Yesterday I wake up with a bad cold.. Couldn't eat all day, nausea set in, felt sick at my stomach.. I finally ate some hamburger helper.. Moments later another break out.

Now I am no rocket scientist but this sounds like a may becoming allergic to cheese. Is that even possible? I mean I was thinking it could be pasta too because there is noodle in mac n cheese and hamburger helper too.

No breakouts today but I feel like death.
Ironic enough at my job I am always dealing with "cheese eaters" that don't either A) pay their bill on time, or B) pay their bill at all.

Maybe this is Gods way of saying I need to stop giving them so much hell.:pondering:

^ Sounds like the same reactions I get when I try to watch a UK Football game.

Sounds like you are doing better buddy.

I am doing better, got a head cold and just sick at my stomach.
Everytime I go to the doc they always ask "Any known allergies?"
Now how crazy am I going to look saying "YUP! Mac n cheese or just cheese!"
#4
Cheese is a very well known source of allergic reactions, dear. They can become really bad, too. Sounds to me like you may have gone "systemic" where the body loses it's ability to resist the reaction. That was what the steroids were for, to stop the inflammatory reaction. You need to get it checked out Ballers, because if you are THAT sensitive to cheese, it could come back whenever you consume any dairy product.

By the was, cheese can also trigger mold allergies. You really need to know what's causing this; the reactions are only going to get worse with each one.

Isn't there a test that doctors can use to see what a person is allergic to? If I can remember correctly, I think there was a doctor who told me that he was thinking of using a test on me if I needed it. But it turned out that what I was experiencing wasn't an allergic reaction, so he didn't need to use the test on me.
#6
Yes, indeed there is a test. Small amounts of several types of common allergens are injected just under the skin, then you are monitored for reaction. I hear is a little uncomfortable.

I had this done 6 months ago.

Got tested for a 127 different trees, grasses, molds, foods, and everything else.
I was allergic to every single one!

It was pure hell and it felt like hell on my back because it was burning so bad after the skin graph. Worst. Day. Ever.

It was horrible, however, i never have any bad allergic reactions to anything, it just makes me feel bad when i eat them.
I got a prescription that finally worked, and ive felt like a million bucks since.
All that allegra, claritin, singulair, etc, wouldnt even touch my allergy problems.
I got something called xyzal, and its the best stuff ever put on this earth.
I havent sneezed once. You should have seen me in grass, but not any more.
#8
So it was worth the pain from the test?

^
Oh yea. You feel fine after 30 minutes or so.
Just make sure someones there with you so they can fan your back because it will be on fire.

It was definitely worth it. I now know exactly what im allergic to and what to stay way from.

However, in the words of my allergy specialist....."move to the desert"
#10
If you did, with your luck; you'd probably develop an allergy to sand.

haha, believe you me, i would.
#12
Yeah, Granny Bear the doc was wanting me to go to a dermatologist.
I've kinda shyed away from it at this point. Haven't had a break out in 2 days so I'm just trying to stay away from all dairy type products.
#13
You could get dairy products and even cheese from places that you are not aware.
Better safe than sorry, Ballers.....especially with allergens that are ingested!!

Get better!!
#14
Get well and stay well. Wink
#15
Ballers, i know you where on some meds from the dentist recently. It could have something to do with the meds.

I dont think its cheese after watching you throw down those triple cheese burgers every day lol.
#16
Meds would definately be my first guess! Didn't know he was on anything.
#17
Well you could be right Blackcat..
But the thing is there are a lot of things tied into it..

They prescribed me amoxicillin 500 mgs (3 times a day) and 7mg of Hydrocodene? I know its a weak narcotic.. Either way it was the first time I had ever ingested a narcotic but man I had too. Three teeth was cut out of my gums..

I also got stitches which was a first.. This was my first surgery period.. Still haven't had anymore break outs and I ate a chicken, bacon, ranch from Subway today loaded with ranch.. and mmmmm it was good.
And also to Blackcat, the last triple cheeseburger you see me eat, was the day I started breaking out BADLY.
#18
Ballers, you really need to think about the first time you had a break out. Hydrocodone is NOT a weak narcotic and rashes are very very common for that med. If that's the first narcotic you've ever taken, it could most definately cause the nausea and even headaches. However, the Amoxicillin (especially 500 mgs) is a very strong antibiotic. It's a derivative or synthetic version of Penicillan and can cause dangerous reactions.

If I were you, and the break out happened after starting the meds, I wouldn't take Amoxicillin EVER again. Read up on anaphylatic shock.

^ Very good advice Ballers...Granny Bear brings up a great point. My mother-in-law of 15+ years was an ER nurse and ICU nurse for 30 years.

What your describing sounds a lot like some of the stories she's shared about allergic reaction to medications. It is my sincere hope it is a medication, a world without dairy I simply cannot envision. A lot of folks are allergic to penicillin. I was as a kid and have grown out of it since. And don't sweat it if you have medication allergies there are always alternatives that can be prescribed for pain and antibiotics. Just will take some trial and error to determine what.

Be sure to talk with your doctor and explain the timeline of events. I'll pray that your good on the cheeseburger frontWink

My husband contracted polio as an infant. He went into an anaphylatic reaction from Penicillan; full arrest. He was 10 mos old.
Dangerous stuff here; he couldn't grow out of that kind of allergic reaction.
Biggest problem for Ballers is that the more you take this stuff (IF you're truely allergic), then the worse the reactions will be.

I don't want you to do that Ballers!!!
#21
I dont know what your dealin Ballers, but Hydrocodene is some stout stuff.
Ive only taken one my entire life after after having a tooth pulled and it knocked me clean out, and im one that isnt very sensitive to meds. I have to take 4 Aleves to get a small headache to go away.
#22
I've never taken that med in my life!
Thinking about New Year's Eve though.......
:eyeroll:
#23
Well I have taken amoxicillin before so I don't think that was it..
And after I stopped taking the meds was when the breakouts began.
Still no breaks outs now, I do not believe it was amoxicillin it could have been the hydrocodon(sp)..

I told them to prescribe the weakest cause' like I said I had never taken anything like that.
To be honest it took the soreness and throbbing away from the gums but besides that I wasn't sleepy or high or anything like that.(And I know what RIUTG is thinking, no I'm not a fatty I am 5"11 190lbs.) And I only say that because I'm no doctor but the bigger the person the harder the drug they may prescribe?

I was also thinking maybe the rashes where a sort of detox from the pain meds? I know that might sound a little off but I mean I haven't ever taken any so maybe my body was trying to dispose of it in its own way after I was off of it? And maybe the hospital in Hazard doesn't know their stuff that well like everyone says.

Good points.
And yes, I know I couldn't go the rest of my life without the delicious taste of a juicy burger.

Sweetheart, Hydrocodone is anything but weak. If you've never taken it before I'm surprised you're "awake" now! Confusednicker: It does do a great job with things like an inflammatory process, that would make you sore, so that makes great sense to me. As far as taking meds before and not getting a reaction, that doesn't mean a hill of beans. You can take Amoxi for years with no reaction, and then one day have a doosey of a reaction!! Your detox theory holds some water, too.

I don't know anything about Hazard ARH, but sounds to me like they gave you just what you needed.

Hope you're better now; I coulnd't do without cheeseburgers either!!!

I had taken penicillin all my life, then I took it about 5 years ago, and broke out bad. Reactions can happen all at once.
#28
Correct, and with drugs like the "cillins" the reactions can be fatal.
#29
Well I didn't know that about having reactions wayyy after you have taken it.
but def. thanks for the advice.
I will def. have to watch myself again next time I am prescribed amoxicillin or any kind of medication for sure.
#30
How long after you had stopped taking it?
