The Beatles: "Revolution" Song
#1
I was curious of what all of you thought of this. Here are the lyrics to this song:

You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
All right, all right

You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money
For people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
All right, all right
Ah

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...

You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
All right, all right
All right, all right, all right
All right, all right, all right

^This song was made during the 1960's when there were a lot of riots going on. Looking at the words of this song, what do all of you think?

I found this from wikipedia.org:

Quote:"Revolution" was inspired by political protests in early 1968. Lennon's lyrics expressed doubt about some of the tactics. When the single version was released in August, the political left viewed it as betraying their cause.

I added emphasis to the above quote. I believe the "political left" they're referring to might be communists/socialists since John Lennin is clearly pointing in this song to those who follow Chairman Mao, a communist. This is why people like Glenn Beck claim that the same thing that happened in the 1960's (when communists/socialists intentionally helped cause social unrest in order to attempt to change our type of government) is happening today, especially in Europe right now where they're having a lot of unrest.

The Beatles were good at expressing their political views through their music.

Another group like this, A little more on the heavier side though, is Rage Against The machine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rage_Against_the_Machine

“Relax, all right? Don’t try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they’re fascist. Throw some ground balls – it’s more democratic.”

virtually every band of the Vietnam era wrote songs of change and the need for a new direction. It's not like any single band was responsible. The entire theme of Woodstock was centered around the message of changing the world. There are many bands that wrote songs such as this. Good stuff though.
