HSFOOTBALL Wrote:Who has Belfry faced faster than Hopkins? The kid was clocked at a 4.41 forty at his UK combine, he is faster than anyone Henry clay threw at Belfry if thats what you're thinking. If Bourbon loses it is because Hopkins didnt get to the second level, once he hits linebacker level he is lethal. That being said Bourbon will most definitely struggle with Belfry's size. I anticipate a good one.#8 from Ashland is faster!!!

^ Most Belfry fans are expecting an absolute war Jack. Bourbon WIPED out Garrard and Mason. That is impressive.
The only thing that seems odd is the squeeker against Bath Co.

I would say our coaching staffs resume speaks volume also.... your right we did look past Garrard kinda last year.....But keep in mind we didnt have Sani at Corner...he wouldve stopped those two long plays in that game...i dont think we will blow em out but id say we are two touchdowns better.....and i have no problem eating crow....I just never had to eat it......

I like the pirate shot on here....can we get a bobcats clawing?
I have to agree with StrikeoutKing, in that this will be a much closer game. Also, I admit that I know very little about Bourbon County other than what I've read and heard about them. Still, I'm pulling for Belfry!!
Belfry 32
Bourbon 28
I hope Johnson is okay; I would appreciate updates as to his condition, too!!
Best of luck to both teams and hope for no injuries!!
Come on Belfry; bring home the victory!!!
AND if BELLBOBCATS gets a clawing bobcat, WE get a massive growling black bear!!!

Hopkins isn't the fastest player on Bourbon, he may be the fifth best athlete on Bourbons team. Thing about Hopkins is that he's not your typical RB doesn't shy from contact, has speed, power, and vision and will lay the wood on defense. You can laugh at this all you want but Bourbons defense will be one of the fastest Belfry has played this year. Should be a GREAT GAME, atmosphere should be great, and with Belfry, you know they'll bring it!

Fast defense? 3 yards. Cloud of dust. That's what we do around here! Lol

Also worth nothing, Bourbon probably on top of never playing a huge game of this magnitude, has likely never been in an environment like CAM.

A fast defense is a fast defense, if a LB can get to a hole fast, they can turn 3 yards and a cloud of dust to two...

I'll open with this.
Bourbon is by far the most skilled, balanced offensive team Belfry will have seen this season. They have arguably the best or 2nd best HB Belfry will have seen in Hopkins (behind Bell though HSFOOTBALL disagrees). They have the 2nd best QB Belfry will have seen in Pope (behind Trent). They have the 2nd or 3rd best ATH (behind Massey and IMO equal to Jackson) in Johnson. They have possibly the best or 2nd best true WR (behind Shouse) in Hilander. I said in the Breathitt buildup that the Bobcats may have the #1 and #2 players on the field, but Belfry had players #3-8 and most of the next ten players as well. In this game, that is going to be much more balanced out between the two teams.
This may shock people, but Hopkins is not the guy who scares me the most. In fact, I could envision a scenario where Belfry completely shuts Hopkins down. The guy who holds the keys in this game is the QB Pope. This guy is legitimately one of the Top 3 or 4 QB's in 3A football IMO, he can throw short, he can throw long, and he is very mobile and a tough runner on designed plays. If Bourbon simply tries to force feed Hopkins and pass as a secondary notion then Belfry will absolutely crush the Colonels IMO. If Bourbon establishes a short passing game, utilizes Pope's legs, and maintains balance then Bourbon legitimately has a chance to not only score on Belfry,,, but score more than most Belfry fans want to admit.
For all the talk of Hopkins being the fastest back Belfry has seen,,, it also needs to be noted Belfry will be by far the fastest/most athletic team Bourbon has seen. From what I have seen Belfry also has three significant advantages:
1. Line Play- The Bourbon OL is what I would consider to be "servicable". The majority of their offensive damage is done by shear talent... yards after contact... and utilizing the space created by the spread. Bourbon's DL is undersized and they have not remotely seen an offensive line with the mix of size, experience, quickness, and strength as Belfry's over the past two years.
2. Depth- From what I see Bourbon plays a lot of their team both ways. In addition, Bourbon hasn't played a single team who can grind them and create a physical toll over the course of a game. Belfry plays 2 seperate units with the exception of Robinson, Messer, and Warren.
3. Schedule- The Colonels simly are making a monumental step up in class. To their credit, with the exception of the bizarre Bath County score, the Colonels have dominated like they needed to. Still, just as I pointed out against Breathitt, a lack of quality 2nd Half stats and a team who will hit you in the mouth can be a major adjustment in an evironment like Pond Creek will be Friday Night. The Semi-Final stage is familiar to Belfry, the Pirates have played 4 teams who are better than Bourbon's toughest opponent (Madison Southern IMO), and Belfry has seen teams who do some of the same things as Bourbon.... Bourbon cannot say the same.
I think the best thing to happen to Belfry was Garrard County last year. The Pirates did not overlook GC, by I don't think they appreciated how talented they were.... I don't expect Belfry to let their guard down this week.
Really looking forward to this one...should be a highly entertaining game and a close game.

Bourbon lost to Garrard in overtime last year, and this Bourbon team would put up a running clock against last years.

I have to say I was at last nights game between BHS and Breathitt Co. I also thought From the stats on khsaa that there QB from Breathitt was going to be tuff. The young man is a very good QB but you cant play him both ways and expect him to play 100% alnight. Belfry plays hard nose football and has enough players to spread them out on both sides of the ball. The johnson boy is fast on offence but you guy have forgotten about #5 Hatfield. This boy isnt a 80 yard breaker because you can run him down, but from 5 to 15 yards he will carry and dig and push 5 to6 defence of players down the field. #4 Taylor small but hits like a 240lbs line backer and he is also fast as lightening. These boy are young and tuff. Belfry also has the biggest and tuffest offence of linemen they have ever had. I will say this Bourbon will be a very good game but I also thought that about Breathitt. Our defence shut them down and fast. I would say by far we have the best coaching staff in the state.

Bourbon has a young, experienced coaching staff that will have their boys ready to play next Friday night. I may be a little biased as to who I'd like to support and who I'd like to win, but go BC. I hope you overlook another team, Belfry. This time it'll cost you.

Johnson won't play anymore this year for sure and playing again in the future is of little importance, IMO, compared to his overall quality of life. Hopefully Justin will be symptom free in a few weeks.

Which begs to reason and must be asked, what happens if Belfry does not overlook Bourbon?

Their coaching staff is seasoned and savvy and they will have the players ready. Bourbon is well respected and nobody is going to dismiss them.
IMO Belfry didn't overlook Garrard last year. Garrard was very athletic and talented and they had the type of team that matched up well against Belfry. Their coaches did a tremendous job of preparing them and setting up a solid game plan. It was a game that could have gone either way between two good football teams.

If Belfry comes to play with their heads right, they win. if not, much respect to Bourbon, and the Colonels have a legitimate chance.

I also enjoyed the 15+ references to Frankfort who Bourbon did not even play from the color commentary guy.
