CIA Director David Petraeus Resigns, Cites Extramarital Affair
#1
Here we go libtards. I'm sure this is a completely acceptable behavior to you, but thought I would share it for those who do not think it is acceptable.

I was even kind enough to use a link from one of your sources.

I have a lot of Republican friends that are torn up by this. Are other conservatives upset?

Glenn Beck actually made a prediction about Petraeus. Here's the link:

http://www.glennbeck.com/2012/11/09/anot...f-the-cia/

Glenn Beck claimed that Petraeus would be blamed for the Libyan terrorist attack. He obviously hasn't (at least he hasn't yet). But as everyone knows now, he has resigned. If you look at Glenn Beck's prediction, it makes you wonder if there was a link with Petraeus' resignation and the Libyan terrorist attack in some way.

Does anyone think David Petraeus' resignation was suspicious? I heard he was known as one of the greatest generals our country has had in a long time. Of course, I haven't read about him much or anything, but that's what I've heard.

Yes, there are some very strange things about the timing of Petraeus's resignation. Like so many other stories that might have undermined Obama's reelection campaign, the results of the FBI investigation was suppressed for months. The White House claims that it only learned of the investigation the day after the election. How convenient, particularly since Petraeus was already scheduled to testify about the response to the Benghazi attack.

Eventually, we may learn the real reason why the FBI was authorized to investigate Petraeus and who requested the investigation. I don't trust any explanation that comes from the Obama administration. It looks like Petraeus is either being set up as a fall guy or the White House is attempting to undermine his credibility in advance. Maybe both.

If the charges below are true, then Gen. Petraeus will either deliver testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee in a few days that will push the Benghazi cover-up into Watergate territory, or his lawyers will claim that he cannot testify because of confidentiality agreements he signed when he joined the CIA and kicked in when he became its former employee following his resignation. The question is, as it was in Watergate, what did the president know, and when did he know it.

Barack Hussein Obama combines the worst traits of Richard M. Nixon and Jimmy Earl Carter. Like Nixon, he was reelected despite a large black cloud of scandal hanging over his head. Now, we shall see if he can do something that Nixon could not - escape the consequences of his actions.

Quote:Barack Hussein Obama was aware of the CIA director's indiscretions "long before" the November 6, 2012 elections, and knew about the FBI's investigative findings weeks before the election

Cover-up at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

According to two well-vetted sources with intimate knowledge of the CIA operations and events in Benghazi, the resignation of CIA Director David Petraeus is directly related to the testimony he was expected to provide before a closed-door hearing next week before the Senate Intelligence Committee. Sources close to the controversy, citing the need for anonymity due to their positions, stated that Barack Hussein Obama was aware of the CIA director’s indiscretions “long before” the November 6, 2012 elections, and knew about the FBI’s investigative findings weeks before the election, but “erected a firewall” to prevent any disclosure before November 6th.

“What I do know is that an integral part of that firewall involved having information on Petraeus that would potentially damage his career, legacy and marriage. A sort of political blackmail, if you will. What I don’t know, but suspect, is that Petraeus was placed in the unenviable but self-inflicted position of having to choose between providing truthful testimony under oath and having his professional and personal life destroyed while systematically being impeached due to this incident, or keeping quiet before the Senate Intelligence Committee,” stated one source.

A second intelligence source stated that “the announcement [of Petraeus’ resignation] was carefully timed. It was announced in a Friday afternoon news dump three days after the election, and days before the Senate Intelligence Committee was to hear his testimony, despite the President having knowledge of these events weeks ago. Friday’s announcement served two purposes; it kept controversy from emerging before the election, while allowing the administration to buy time regarding testimony by a federal official about CIA’s involvement in Benghazi.”

The resignation of David Petraeus is merely one, albeit a very high-profile one, of several coordinated moves to push any meaningful investigation into the events of Benghazi well into the future. “Obama and other high ranking officials learned many valuable lessons from Fast & Furious,” a fact agreed upon by both sources. Fast & Furious is the name given to the gun running operation from the U.S. into Mexico. “They understand that the longer they can delay and obstruct the truth, reassign key personnel with important information to positions and locations that hinder any meaningful investigation, the more the public interest wanes. As the public loses interest, it also takes the pressure off Congress from getting to the bottom of things.”

Both sources agreed that it is difficult to speculate whether Petraeus decided to extract himself from the leverage that the controversy had over him by the Obama regime on his terms, or whether his resignation was conducted solely by the terms of the Obama regime. Otherwise, both sources agreed that his resignation would buy the administration some valuable time, and the change in status of Petraeus as the active CIA director would also have an effect on the manner in which he is required to provide testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee. The change of status, from an active CIA official and government employee, to a citizen bound by far reaching confidentiality agreements, would change his ability to testify before the committee. “He can also lawyer-up,” added one source.

Who believes that the New York Times did not have this information before the election but decided to help Obama keep a lid on it until after the election? Things sure have changed since the American media considered providing a check on presidential power to be its moral obligation to the public. The mainstream media has become nothing but President Obama's lap dog - emitting a weak little yap when nobody is paying any attention and cowering in the face of presidential power when it matters.

Quote:]Biographer’s E-Mails to Woman Led F.B.I. to Petraeus

WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. investigation that led to the sudden resignation of David H. Petraeus as C.I.A. director on Friday began with a complaint several months ago about “harassing” e-mails sent by Paula Broadwell, Mr. Petraeus’s biographer, to another woman who knows both of them, two government officials briefed on the case said Saturday.

When F.B.I. agents following up on the complaint began to examine Ms. Broadwell’s e-mails, they discovered exchanges between her and Mr. Petraeus that revealed that they were having an affair, said several officials who spoke of the investigation on the condition of anonymity. They also discovered that Ms. Broadwell possessed certain classified information, one official said, but apparently concluded that it was probably not Mr. Petraeus who had given it to her and that there had been no major breach of security. No leak charges are expected to be filed as a result of the investigation.

The identity of the woman who complained about the harassing messages from Ms. Broadwell has not been disclosed. She was not a family member or in the government, the officials said, and the nature of her relationship with Mr. Petraeus was not immediately known. But they said the two women seemed be competing for Mr. Petraeus’s loyalty, if not his affection.

One Congressional official who was briefed on the matter said senior intelligence officials explained that the F.B.I. investigation “started with two women” — evidently Ms. Broadwell and the woman who complained about her e-mails. “It didn’t start with Petraeus, but in the course of the investigation they stumbled across him,” said the Congressional official. “We were stunned.”

Ms. Broadwell has made no statement since the affair became public on Friday, and attempts to reach her for comment have been unsuccessful.

The circumstances surrounding the collapse of Mr. Petraeus’s career remain murky. It is not clear when Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. or Robert S. Mueller III, the director of the F.B.I., became aware that the F.B.I.’s investigation into Ms. Broadwell’s e-mails had brought to light compromising information about Mr. Petraeus.

More on the Petraeus resignation and its possible roll in the cover-up of the Benghazi scandal. My question is why did Mitt Romney passed up a chance to make this scandal an issue in the election? American voters had a right to hear from Obama before the election.

[INDENT]
Quote:6 lingering questions about the exit of Gen. David Petraeus

Resignations over scandals often raise more questions than they answer, and that’s true of Gen. David Petraeus’s abrupt exit from the Central Intelligence Agency.

Some have already been put to rest: Paula Broadwell, the author of “All In: The Education of David Petraeus,” has been identified as the woman at the center of the FBI email probe that ultimately toppled him.

But many questions remain.

Here are POLITICO’s six most important:

1. Why resign now?
The Obama administration’s first sex scandal exploded just three days after the president was reelected at the end of a hard-fought campaign and just days before Petraeus was scheduled to appear at a congressional hearing about the attacks in Benghazi.

The White House says no one there knew about the Petraeus situation before Wednesday and the president himself was informed Thursday. But if the story had broken a week earlier, those headlines would have overtaken much of the president’s message about the middle class and his work in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Who made the decision to wait, and why, is going to be the subject of scrutiny as this scandal continues to unfold.

Petraeus’s departure now has also thrown a whole new pile of grist into the Benghazi controversy. Already, the attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others was being called an intelligence failure — both the failure to anticipate it and the decision to identify it as a riot rather than a terrorist attack.

Acting CIA Director Michael Morrell, Petraeus’s deputy, will go to the Hill instead for Thursday’s hearing. But already, there’s a clear sense that going public with his affair and resigning from his job isn’t enough to get Petraeus off the hook.

“David Petraeus testifying has nothing to do with whether or not he’s still the CIA director, and I don’t see how the CIA can say he’s not going to testify,” House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King (R-N.Y.) told CNN. “He was at the center of this and he has answers that only he has.”

2. What else was part of the FBI probe?
The FBI’s toppling of the CIA director seems like the ultimate in intelligence sibling rivalries. It didn’t start that way.

The Washington Post reported Saturday that the FBI investigation began because a woman close to Petraeus sought protection after receiving several threatening emails from Broadwell. After a deeper look at the general’s personal email account, there were initially questions about whether it had been hacked. But investigators soon concluded from the content of the emails that they were evidence of an affair between Petraeus and Broadwell.

According to the Post, weeks of probing culminated Tuesday, when Director of National Intelligence James Clapper was told that compromising material had been found. Clapper subsequently told Petraeus to resign.

The foreign press is all over this story. Why was our own media not on top of it before the election? Now that the media has helped Obama win another election, will they remain in his bed for another four years, or will they be shamed into doing their job?

I find it extremely unlikely that Obama did not know about Petraeus's affair before he was appointed to head the CIA. If he was not aware of it, then the FBI background check done on Petraeus was incredibly and uncharacteristically poorly done. I am also skeptical that infidelity alone would disqualify Petraeus from serving in an administration who openly allowed illegal foreign donations to his campaign by not properly vetting credit card donations.

Quote:Obama cover-up claim over CIA chief's affair: Was the relationship discovered by FBI months ago, but hushed up due to election?

President Obama faced allegations of a major political cover-up last night over the resignation of CIA chief General David Petraeus, who had an affair with a married woman.

The US Congress is expected to investigate claims that the affair was hushed up to protect Obama’s re-election campaign.

It is believed the affair was discovered by the FBI months ago, but not made public until after the election.

The FBI began an investigation in February after discovering the 60-year-old’s computer had been accessed by someone else – believed to be his 40-year-old mistress Paula Broadwell – prompting fears of a major security breach.
This led to the discovery of hundreds of explicit emails including one referring to ‘sex under a desk’.
A source said last night: ‘The real question is, what did the President know, and when?’

Frances Townsend, a former senior US government security official and now a member of the CIA Advisory Committee, said: ‘Whenever the FBI opens an investigation of a senior official they have to make notification of that, especially if there is an intelligence concern. It is hard to believe the White House did not know about this prior to the election.’

White House officials insist the President did not know of the affair until last Wednesday, the day after the election. He accepted the retired four-star general’s resignation on Thursday, and the announcement was made on Friday.

Some have alleged the scandal is a smokescreen to stop Petraeus testifying before a Senate committee this week into the deaths of the US ambassador and three staff members in September in Benghazi, Libya. The White House has been accused of ignoring repeated warnings of an Al Qaeda terrorist attack on the embassy.

A senior Congressional staffer said last night: ‘What would he have told us? The resignation is incredibly convenient for the administration. Would he have revealed the CIA knew the Benghazi compound was under threat and Washington did nothing to secure it?’

Members of the House Intelligence Committee may still vote to subpoena Petraeus and force him to testify.

The source added: ‘This could be another Watergate situation where it is not the event that brings down the president but the cover-up.’

All I have heard on CNN is that when he asked to resign, Obama asked him to stay, and he said the honorable thing to do would be to resign.

The best way to stay ignorant of the rampant corruption in the Obama White House is to tune to MSNBC for all of your news. If you are just a little more curious about what is going on, then CNN is probably your best bet. The level of corruption in the Obama White House is making it difficult for even Obama's most loyal servants in the U.S. media to ignore it. CNN and even the "Lean Forward" network will eventually fill you in on what is happening - it just takes them much longer.

I don't condone the affair, but I see no reason for him to resign.

TheRealVille Wrote:I don't condone the affair, but I see no reason for him to resign.
Nor do I, if this was only about an affair that Petraeus's FBI background check almost surely uncovered. The timing suggests that his resignation is strongly linked to Obama's well orchestrated Benghazi cover-up. This is either an attempt by the Obama administration to avoid having Petraeus testify under oath before the Senate and House Intelligence Committees or an attempt to undermine his credibility before he testifies.

Like all cover-up attempts, this one is raising more questions than it is answering. It will be very interesting to see whether Petraeus mans up or lawyers up. My guess is that he will do the honorable thing and tell what he knows about the decision to let people in Benghazi die without the benefit of an Obama authorized rescue attempt.

However, who knows what other dirt Obama has dug up on Petraeus to pressure him into silence? We may find out in a few days.
#15
We had a 2 term president who had an affair and then lied about it on national television and he never resigned.
#16
Come on fellas, we all know what is going on here. It has nothing to do with an affair.

Obama does not want him testifying on Benghazi, and now he can't.

If the media ever really starts pushing Benghazi, and as more Americans become more educated on what happened there, and how Obama and his staff did nothing to help them. I could see a huge swing in the mid term elections in 2 years, and then an impeachment of Obama.

The man has no business being President of the US. I knew our country was full of lazy morons, I see them on a daily basis. People so stupid that if breathing wasn't autonomic they would suffocate. These are the types of people keeping this man in office.

Things just keep getting more interesting with the Benghazi cover-up. The twin sister of Petraeus's other "other woman" is a lawyer, who, according to her LinkedIn profile, has been exclusively representing whistle blowers since October 2012.

It has also come to light that Petraeus's first "other woman" publicly disclosed that the CIA Annex in Benghazi may have actually been used as a secret prison for Libyan terrorists.

Will this nation survive an eight-year long foreign policy amateur hour overseen by Obama?

Amateur Hour continues. Unfortunately, it is really a continuation of Amateur First Four Years. I see where the Democrats want Ashley Judd to run against Mitch McConnell. She would be a good choice since she is better qualified than was Obama when he ran for senator. Maybe she could get America's most famous slut, Sandra Fluke, to be her campaign manager.

Now, I am going to post a few more links for you. Take your best shot at them. This is how major scandals start. If Obama manages to execute an effective cover-up, then maybe we have found an area in which he is competent.

Jill Kelley's twin sister, Natalie Khawam, Esq., lives with Kelley and her husband. Kelley is the woman that contacted the FBI when she began receiving harassing email messages from Petraeus's secret gal pal, Paula Broadwell. The exact nature of Kelley's relationship is not known, so she may have just been targeted by a nutty, jealous girlfriend for no good reason.

Khawam's LinkedIn profile says that since October 2012, she exclusively represents whistle blowers. The fact that she lives with her sister and brother-in-law suggests that she has not been wildly successful in her career. The fact that she is suddenly billing herself as a champion of whistle blowers is not good news for Obama. An online picture album posted by the family talks about meeting Gen Petraeus at the family's home.

'We and our family have been friends with Gen Petraeus and his family for over five years. We respect his and his family's privacy and want the same for us and our three children,' she said in statement on Sunday.

There was no answer at the home tonight when called by MailOnline. The family had a large birthday party for one of their daughters on Sunday, which included catered sandwiches a disc jockey and more than 100 guests.

Mrs Kelley and her husband Scott, a cancer surgeon, declined to speak with news media gathered outside their home on Sunday.

Jill Kelley, the Florida woman whose complaint to the FBI may have sparked the downfall of CIA Director David H. Petraeus, has Philadelphia roots.

Kelley, 37, hails from a Lebanese family that emigrated to Philadelphia in the mid-1970s.

Her parents, John and Marcelle Khawam, had businesses in the area, including a restaurant in Voorhees. The couple still live in Washington Crossing, Bucks County, according to public records, and Kelley's older brother, David, is a lawyer in South Jersey.

Kelley emerged Sunday as the woman who contacted the FBI after allegedly receiving threatening e-mails from Petraeus' biographer, Paula Broadwell, according to the Associated Press and other news outlets. Her complaint to the FBI led investigators to e-mails that revealed Petraeus and Broadwell were having an affair.

Kelley works as an unpaid social liaison to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla. According to a statement she and her husband released Sunday, they have been friends with Petraeus and his wife, Holly, for five years.

Somebody has some explaining to do. Who authorized the FBI to investigate Petraeus? If Petraeus's affair made him a security threat, then why was he allowed to continue to serve as the CIA Director until after the election? Why, if one believes Obama's account, was the president not told of Petraeus's affair until 5:00 PM on election day?

Most of all, the questions that need to be answered are those that are now being overshadowed by the Petraeus scandal. Why did Obama lie about the cause of the terrorist attacks for more than two weeks? Why was UN Secretary Susan Rice dispatched to five different Sunday morning talk shows to lie about the cause of the terrorist attack and who asked her to lie on President Obama's behalf?

There are many more questions that demand an answer, but even you must recognize that a well orchestrated cover-up is running in high gear. Or do you? I really do not believe that the truth holds much interest for you.

They weren't investigating Petraeus, they were combing through the emails of Broadwell, because of her harassing emails to Kelley, per Kelley's complaint, and found the interlude emails with the General while going through Broadwell's email. It has already been said that his and her affair emails weren't on his "official" email address, that could pose a security threat.

The subject of the emails was Petraeus. That is what made the investigation a federal case. Surely, you understand that somebody at a much higher level than an FBI field agent would have been informed and asked to approve of the investigation of an affair involving the CIA Director. Again, if the affair was a national security issue that required that the president be informed, then why was it done after most of the votes were in, when the affair had been known for months?

Do you believe that the timing of the disclosure of Petraeus's affair - after the election and a few days before Petraeus was slated to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee - was just another coincidence?

You are so predictable, RV.

You can always be counted on to resort to personal attacks when you find yourself losing a debate. When you are not engaging in ad hominem attacks, then you are busy changing the subject to derail threads. You are among the least informed posters in this forum and you are determined to remain that way.

I feel sorry for people like you who become fans of celebrity politicians like Obama. If we stop holding elected official accountable for their actions, then we will lose democracy in this country. If you want to be somebody's fanboy, why don't you pick out an athlete? Sports fans are also pathetic in their own way, but they do not threaten our political system.

Why don't you wait for the facts, before you start speculating, like you told me to do with the Martin thread then? BTW, there was no attacks, just stating that you aren't as smart as you like to think you are. Anybody can search the web and find just about any view on things they want to post, but they are not always true.

What have I posted that was not factual? I posted factual articles and listed questions that the administration has refused to answer. Most, if not all of those questions, could have and should have been answered weeks ago. If you are content to wait for answers from the government without asking any questions, then you will be in for a very, very long wait. Hitler's subjects asked very few questions, and look what happened to them.

The problem with you Hoot, is that you see everything through conservative glasses, and that is the only good model for you. If it doesn't conform to your world view, it isn't right. The facts are that he got caught screwing around, and some Intelligence committee was notified about it at 5pm, by the FBI, the day of the election. The President was notified on Wednesday, and the General asked to resign on Thursday, and the President accepted it on Friday. They have already concluded that no security breach happened.

That is not exactly true. The FBI's investigation found no evidence that either Petraeus or his girlfriend broke the law. That is not the same as concluding that there was no security breach.

The FBI determined that Petraeus was having an affair months ago. There are reasons why the president was allegedly not informed until the day after the election and only days before he was to scheduled to testify. We cannot say for sure what those reasons were, but anybody who denies that the timing was very suspicious is not being honest. There is nothing like a sex scandal to take the media's attention off of everything else.
