Mitch Barnhart will not interview Bobby Petrino for UK Job
#31
Well as long as he wins I guess it doesn't matter how much of a criminal scumbag he is to some.

Define "criminal"

I would like to know of everything he has been charged with in his life.
By charged with, i mean arrested for, or appeared in court for.

I honestly do not know.

Found a good article on the Petrino situation that pretty much sums it up...

http://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissmith/2...o-brainer/
#35
How about what he was fired for instead of prosecuted. $20,000 gifts and jobs given that were paid for by public funds.
#36
FBALL Wrote:You really want to make a case that Petrino is not a scumbag and then call people out on being unintelligent?

Bless your heart.

j/k about the sharpest tool but you did call him a criminal which is false, and I can't tolerate people getting on their high horse and judging others. Sure Petrino has baggage, who doesn't? We just know about a bunch of his. Put a zero-tolerance clause in his contract and force him to toe the line.

I'm not on my high horse but he is lucky charges weren't filed in Arkansas. He wasn't fired "with cause" voiding the rest of his contract just because he was cheating on his wife. You really think Arkansas did that to their football program just to make a point of morality? I don't.

Amen!! This article is so on the money!! But we probably do not have people in charge that have enough vision or guts to to do something about it! IMO, this might be the only chance we will ever have to get a coach of this caliber, considering our last 50 to 60 year history?
#39
I have sent mine to but I don't see this ever happening.

Barnhart was the guy who would have stuck us with another year of Joker. 50,000 seats and a nudge from upstairs changed his mind. He doesn't listen to the fan base. Send your emails and letters to the president of UK. Make sure you mention you have sent it there because the AD is not concerned with those who fill the seats. Barnhart was also forced to hire Calipari after his abysmal failure with BCG. Calpari was the obvious hire the first time but Barnhart was on his moral high horse and was going to show the fans how smart he was. We all saw that disaster.

Perhaps to some. But I don't like scumbags and I'd be okay with hiring him. Hear me out. He'd only get the job if he signed a contract that has clawback provisions in it. If he left before the end of his contract, he has to pay UK a bunch of money. If he was terminated before the end of his contract for cause, he has to pay UK a bunch of money.

I think a person can learn from his/her mistakes and turn his life around. I'm not gullible enough to think a person has done so just because he/she says so. Hence the clawback provisions.

If this guy misses coaching as badly as they say he does; if he wants to coach at UK as badly as they he does, then he'll accept a contract with clawback provisions in it. Heck, if he believes in himself as strongly as I think he does, I think he'd accept a pretty reasonable annual salary with kickers in it for on field success, lack of off field problems, etc. His past problems may be the only way we get a coach of his talent at a price we are willing to pay.

If it turns out that he hasn't changed, how are we harmed? Some embarrassment to the UK program? Yes. Although I think if we protected ourselves in the contract, I think most reasonable people would be reasonable in their judgment of us and conclude that the University didn't just blindly trust him. The destabilization of needing to bring in another head coach in such a short time? Again, yes. But I think the opportunity to get such a good coach is worth that risk.

Sometimes some folks have to get knocked off their high horse to turn their lives around. Hopefully, that would be the case with Petrino.

Don't get me wrong: if UK can find another HC with the coaching credentials of Petrino, I'd go with the other coach. But you have to admit, that's highly unlikely. So I say UK gives him another chance, but protects itself contractually.

Petrino!

Thats not criminal.

Mitch will not interview Petrino, MARK IT DOWN! Petrino will end up at Auburn or Arkansas if anywhere. I don't see how people can say go hire Petrino, give him a second chance blah blah blah after the scandal that he had at Arkansas and knowing of his past how he does teams. We don't want a coach that's gonna be here a year then leave. That's what Petrino's good for.

Petrino is just using Kentucky just to get another SEC school to step up to the plate, hell I bet that if he was offered the Kentucky job he'd turn it down

By far the best argument made for him yet.

The man is desperate. His career is in the crapper. I'd bet he would take either job if offered to him.

It wont be Arkansas...

^ Yeah that one slipped my mind

This is the reason most people just call him Barnfart. He will screw it up .
He should have called Petrino at halftime of the Western game.

Petrino is the only option.

I want an honest answer here from you Petrino haters......

Do you honestly believe Dykes or Cutliff could turn around this program and have us winning in the SEC in 3 years?

If you answer yes, my next question is, what happened in order to make you mentally insane...

i 2nd that

Their's more coaches out there that can win. We don't need nor want Petrino. If I recall Mitch has already said that he wasn't interviewing Petrino. If we hired Petrino we would be looking for a new coach within 2 years and we don't need that. We need someone that's gonna commit to a long term deal. I don't won't Petrino because of his past, yes everyone deserves second chances but Petrino has had plenty of second chances and he's still in the same boat, leaving schools after 2 years, affairs/scandals and so on
#53
For all you Petrino lovers out there, why do you like and want him so bad? Please explain besides just saying he can win, he can have the Knetucky program back on track and this and that. Theirs gotta be more to it as to why you all are so head over heels for him

I'm a Petrino hater, and I don't think either of them can do it. How about Smart? Thats the guy I think UK should go after. Give me your critiques on him Gut. As for winning in 3 years...Petrino wont have UK winning anything in the sec in 3 years. He'll come in, win 6-7 games in 2013 and be offered a job somewhere else. Who knows what jobs will open up next year....Texas, USC, Oregon...and be done with UK, leaving us with half a roster of players for one offensive scheme that not many can coach. If Petrino comes to UK, in 3 years he will be gone and it will be 2-10 again.

When you run a company or any organization you hire the best person you can find for the position open, if you don't your just cheating yourself. I've not saw one name on here I thought was a better coach.

You are making way too much sense Trivial. I'd like to hear Guts take on Smart as well.

To add, we all need to prepare ourselves for this decision. UK has a proven track record of not selecting a good hire for the football program. I don't want to say it is inevitable they'll screw this up...but the chances are good they will.

But it would be great to feel good wearing my UK gear during football season " with pride " vs. just hoops and baseball season!

I will happily eat grilled crow breast ( with garlic and onion ) if this time next year we are bowl eligible and enjoying a good coach and staff at the helm, with players having success on and off the field.

Petrino maybe the better coach, but do you really want someone to coach your football team, that will leave your school in shambles like he has his past schools?

All you'll hear from Gut is Petrino! Those are the only words he knows

And all you Petrino lovers need to hear is that Mitch Barnhart is NOT interviewing Petrino. He's already said that.
