I found out who you are taliking about. I have been impressed with this kid every time I have watched him play. I thought he was one of the top players in our district last year and also the region.

^Could be the one thing that the Tigers are missing!

If JC don't win it, Shelby Valley will (If they get Rowe) .

I will tell some of you now. I didn't hear Johnson. He aint going anywhere.

This sounds just like silly season in the NBA. Players jumping ship all over the place. What ever happened to developing your own and playing with that?
#39
East Ridge or Johnson Central
#40
Lets be honest, with all the changes in coaches and transfers. It prolly gonna be SV, ER, and JC. everyone else better take this year to build their youngs.
#41
Johnson Central would be the obvious preseason choice. A few sleeper picks would be East Ridge and Sheldon Clark.
#42
Johnson Central probably has to be the pre-season favorite. I'm kinda glad no one is talking about Magoffin County. I'm not saying they will win the region, but they will by all means be a very tough out this year.
#43
Johnson Central should make the trip back to Rupp.

I can't blame someone for wanting what is best for their kids! Lets be honest, why do you think that a school JCHS's size has only won a handful of 15th Region titles in over 40 years of playing basketball???? JC was notorious for playing favorites is why!!!!! Craig Ratliff and Joey Coach are two great players that came up the JC system and jumped ship for the very reason I just stated. I remember Craig's freshmen year at JC,,, anyone who ever watched a basketball game could see he was the best player on the team and he didn't start, he was setting on the bench behind a 6 foot 1 inch center who's daddy worked for the school system.
#45
^ NOOOOOOO. Really...lol.

Lets stop here just a second. I played on a regional championship team and also had a son that played on a regional championship team, and there is some truth to what you are saying, but in reality JC has won 7 regional championships. In the time span that the school has been on existance that is about as good of a record as anyone else in the region, so the handfull statement is not really accurate.

Lets also be real here, Joey Couch did not leave JC because he was treated unfairly , he was one of the systems golden childs. Also the Ratliff family has a history of jumping ship. Wendall went back and forth as did Craig. Now their nephew has been to 3 different schools in the last 18 momths. Some of what you are saying is true, but very poor examples.

Actually that should be 6 regional championships. And to add more to Joey Couch, the best I remember he followed Coach David Butcher to Sheldon Clark while in grade school and then went to Paintsville.

Tigers should be right back in the thick of things in the 57th this season.

Bob you are a smart guy but you don't know it all. Since 1985 Paintsville has won 7 or 8 Regional titles and a State Title and was State Runner-up, thats way more the JC has won. As far as Joey Couch goes you are dead wrong, I remember what happened well, he wanted to practice with the JC freshmen team and JC refused even though a Kid from Meade a few years before was allowed too, only after that did he move to SC. What you stated about Wendall is dead wrong too, he and his sister Missy played all 4 years at JC. If I was guessing I would say you work for the JC school system. If you want a better example try the initals JS and NS I am sure you know who I am talking about. When JS entered JCHS they were one of the Top programs in the 15th Region and by the time little Bro NS left they were the worst! Why??? because Daddy had money and influence. How many coachs lost there job trying to please big Daddy? Another example was when a great athlete who later became known as a boxer was cut this speedy ball handler was CUT but the KID who wore the big knee brace who's mommy and daddy were teachers started every game lol and guess what happened ????? Bill Mike took a bunch of midgets and pressed the crap out of JC and knocked them out of the First round of the 57th! Mr knee Brace couldn't get the ball up the floor. I think this boxer guy may be you kin Bob.

hahaha.... You are wrong or partial wrong on most of what you are saying.

1st off, I didn't say JC won more than anyone else in the region.....I said they won 6...and that ranks right up there with almost everybody else since 1969. Actually ,Virgie/Shelby Valley has probably more titles than anyone else since then, and then probably Paintsville. I think Paintsville only had one regional title in their history before 1985, and that was before Chuck Taylors were invented. I would say that JC probably ranks 3rd. I dont have access to a record book right now and I really dont care either way. Should JC have won a bunch more titles over the years? You bet. They should have won several more. I did say you were partially right, didn't I? I just think you could have used better examples than the ones you did, because there was a little more to it than what you are saying.

As far as Wendall, you better ask him yourself to see if he ever went to the Paintsville school system at any time. I'm afraid you'll wind up eating a little crow on that one.

And you really think that JS and NS's daddy had money and influence at that time?....I believe there were times he was banned from the gym. Yeah, that's really some influence.

JC's worst problem during those years was over at the Board office. There was a bitter battle for power among school board members at that time and that created mass turmoil in almost everything going on, especially in athletics. JC lost a lot of quality athletes across the creek due to the cross fire in that struggle for power.

And me work for the school system?....A Boxer?....kin folk ?...lol........hardly...Confusednicker:

Listen, there was no need for you to go off the deep end here. I wasn't trying to be smart, as I could really care less. I hate the game of basketball and you'll rarely see me in the gym to watch a game anymore. I dont even watch UK anymore, and I hate the NBA. Just setting the record a little straighter is all. There was nothing personal here on my part.

Since 2000, Johnson Central has won 3 region championships. I believe Paintsville has only 1. Since we are just pulling random years that make a school look better...

Paintsville vs. Johnson Central is a great rivalry. Why do people want to whine over things in the past? "Paintsville recruits and Big JC under-achieves every year!!! Paintsville can't win without JC players." My Gosh!

This is coming from a Paintsville graduate of 1987 and a current teacher at JCHS. I've heard them all, seen most of them and still, I LOVE the rivalry between the schools!!!!

Graduated with John Pelphrey and Joey Couch. Great people and they were pretty good athletes as well. Joey going to Paintsville was good for him and PHS. His brother, David had some pretty good success at JC as well. Being coached by Coach K is something to be proud of.
You see both schools have GREAT success stories. Celebrate them, don't deflate them.

Nobody is going off the deep end. Hey I got a right to make my point on this site same as anybody else. As far as Wendall goes he went to Painsville Grade school for a while but we are talking about HS. As far as the you working in the school system maybe I am wrong about who I think you are. I do know there is only a few Father and Sons who were both on a 15th Regional winning teams at JCHS. The First one that comes to my mind IMO is the best by far, is James and Jamie McCarty, I know James well and he is not a online kind of guy. So that only leave 2 that I know of. As far Joey and Craig go you have the right to think what you want, in Joey's case I remember it well, as far a Craig goes why whould he enroll at JC then leave for Paintsville if all was well while he was at JC? Your grammer is good but you logic just doesn't make sense. I also remember that one of the Greatest athletes in JCHS histroy Mr Brian Hall set the bench behind players that were not as strong or as talented, he didn't even play basketball his SR year , we are talking about a 6' 4" high Jumper that bench pressed way over 300lbs all because the favorites were playing didn't matter if it snowed oats!

Good for you! I am not knocking Paintsville in anyway. Joey Couch and John Pelphrey are both class acts. I will say that I stood over at PHS football field last season and heard Bill Mike say he could "win the 15th Region every year with the talent at JCHS that is wasted". Seems he knows alot about JC's histroy too. Look, you have the pleasure of working at JC while Jim Matney is setting a example to everyone there on what it takes to be a winner and what Class is all about.

Just an outsider opinion, to me, JC has underachieved in essentially every sport. Football is finally doing what it should do. Basketball looks like it may go on a nice little run. Baseball underachieved last year ultimately, but still was successful and baseball has been consistent at least the past 15 years. In basketball, JC's biggest competition has been a AA school (SV) and a A school in Paintsville. In baseball it has been two class A schools, Pikeville and Paintsville and recently a AAA Lawrence County.

It just seems the smaller schools have been getting more out of their numbers than JC does on a consistent basis. Realistically, Lawrence County is the only school in baseball that is close in size that is competitive most years. And basketball, random years will have Belfry, Pike Central, or East Ridge with good teams. So, JC is not alone in this boat. The bigger schools in the 15th, in relative comparison, do not as good of maximizing their numbers advantage. After 20 years of existence, Pike Central still has no boys' regional championships. For a school that size not to get one over two decades is incredible. East Ridge has 1 in about 10 years. Belfry does great in football, but not much besides some success in the early 90's in basketball. What Paintsville has done with its numbers, and Pikeville/Shelby Valley to a lesser extent (Paintsville is about 2/3 the size of Pikeville) is pretty impressive.

Johnson Central has top notch facilities, the most numbers, and a multitude of other resources. They should run this region in just about everything. Maybe they are about to, we will see.

There were 2 of us, Now after last season, there are three. Kind of a small club. Actually if you consider Phillip Wireman, heck he's got all three of us beat. A father and two daughters.

And my logic makes perfect sense. Been around a long long time JCfan.

True, but where would each have been, success wise, without the "magnet" effect over the years?
