All my life I only thought you could have 7 guys on the offensive line. If you had more than that I thought it was considered an illegal formation. A friend of mine that refs told me you could have as many as you wanted to put on the line as long as you dont have more than 3 backs and your QB in the backfield. Thanks.

You can have 10 on the line if you want.

Lets assume you line up with 10 linemen and 1 back.
You have the QB in the shotgun
There are 5 guys on the line to the left of center and 4 to the right of center
How many eligible receivers do you have?

^ If all are side by side, then you have two!

You can put 11 on the line. It would be stupid, but you can do it.

I might be reading this wrong but if you have 10 guys on a line a qb and 1 back you have a penalty

LOL, I thought it was just me who read it that way. I gave the benefit of the doubt though, but you said exactly what I thought when I first saw it.

You can choose to put 10 people on the line with 1 qb if you want. the 2 end men would be eligible with the proper numbers.

So if u did have 10 men on the line and the 1 back which is the Qb,, the new guys on the end of each side would be ur eliigble recievers??? right...

^ yes, max of 2 eligible receivers on the line of scrimmage.

You also have to have 5 lineman numbers. Number exception only happens on kicks as to get rid of the A11. It doesn't have to be traditional lineman formation they can spread across the field like a kickoff if you like.

You have actually 3 eligible receivers with 10 on line and qb. The 2 ends with proper numbers and the QB would also be eligible.

You have to have 7 on the LOS you can have ten lined up side by side but only 7 can be lined up on the ball. No more no less.
