62 - 13 Final

The Lakers dominated the Cardinals tonight. Scoring 49 unanswered points after allowing South Laurel to march down field for 7 on their first offensive drive.
Nick Britt had 11 Carries for 167 Yards & 3 TD, and had 4 Receptions for 105 Yards & 1 TD. If I were giving out a game ball it would be to Nick Coffee.....had two big sacks, and a pick 6 early in the game.

Coffey definately had an outstanding appearance tonight. Pretty well played by all after they got thru the first half. Russell consistently has the ability to score fast and first but then seems to let down a bit at times. Hopefully they can develop more consistent effort by playoff time. On another note, Looking at the Whitley/Rock score tonight makes last week's win at Whitley more impressive.

Shoutouts to a few young men that stood out. Good job Barton Mann who has had 2 solid games after a lack luster first outing against Campbellsville. Keep your head in the game and keep improving Barton. Good job Dylan Kerr for some good hits and some good minutes. Kicker Lucas Williams , you may be the best defensive player, ALWAYS GIVING YOUR OPPONENT A LONG FIELD! Great job young man. Good job Nick Coffey, you're young and seem to be improving. Keep up the good work. Nick Britt, you're tackle breaking ability is awesome. Keep getting stronger. Also good job Austin Hadley, Mason Short, Lucas Whittle, Evan Fletcher, and Blake Ellis on solid performances with the rest of the lakers!

Good Game by all the Lakers! My game ball would have to go to Nick Coffey! He is a MAN! He fought through blocks and made some great plays in the backfield. Nick Britt had another good game both running and recieving. Mann looked like his hero Tebow as he lowered his head and got some tuff yards. Whittle played well as well. I am impressed that the Lakers have scored 162 points in three games and really have shown very little of their playbook! Last week's win at Whitley is looking even better this week! If our guys stay humble and hungry this could be a very exciting year! Go Lakers!!!!!!

I think the Lakers are making believers out of some people! Congrats :Cheerlead:Cheerlead:Cheerlead

IMO, anything less than a 10-0 season would be a dissapointment for Russell.
IMO, Lex Cath is the only team that stands in there way of winning region, and yes, that includes Boyle and Knox.

I am beginning to think so as well. But in 2012 the Laker mentality is "One Game at a Time." Last year the players and staff were looking ahead to an opponent and along came Mercer......not this year. As of right now we have on game on the schedule, thats PC at home 7/7.............no other games exist.
As for SL, their backup QB was the best passer on the field last night. He had an unfortunate tipped ball turn into an INT, but this kid has the capability of becoming a very good QB with their offensive style. IMO he is a better fit than their starting QB.

I agree with everything you said. All the boys played great a lot of names in the defensive statts love seeing team defense. I would hate to see Dylan Kerr coming at me on special teams he has flat backed players in every game and did have some good minutes on defense. Lakers are looking good need to just keep taking it 1 game at a time.

Who do the Lakers have this week, someone said PC. Perry Co., Pulaski Co, Pendelton Co, Paris City?
Not that it matters I think that the Lakers would roll any of those teams.

Could this be the best Lakers team ever?

Appears that Britt just ran wild on the SL defense!! Congrats Lakers!!

Russell County plays host to Pulaski County.

Knox may be the only team left on Russells schedule to give them a game.
Like i said last week, RC has a huge weapon in that kicker.
If Whitley would have been able to get some good returns in it would have been a much closer game, but starting from the 20 everytime does nothing but wear your team down.
I dont know much about the history of Russell County football, but i would assume this may be the best year ever for them.

With a 2-21 all-time record in the playoffs it would only take a first round win to match the Lakers best season ever. Getting to the Regional finals would for sure make it their best team. Not a lot of football tradition for the Mighty Lakers.

This has been the second time, recently, that you have pointed out the playoff history of Russell County. Both times with a negative tone. Obviously, Mr Peterson, you must have had a bad meal or two here in our fine county. (By the way we prefer to be called Lakers, you can leave the mighty part off;even in your sarcasm) Let me take this opportunity to apologize for your bad experiences . Our county is really not that bad.

If you were to take in to account who many of those 21 losses came to you might understand that some teams don't have two or three easy games to start the playoffs. Do multiple playoff wins over the likes Estill, Magoffin, Garrard, etc. make a program storied?
Outside of the blow up to Mercer last season this is what this senior class' playoff experience has been.
2010 - Lost to ACS (Who went on to face Boyle in the Championship game) in 2nd round
2009 - Lost to Lone Oak (Who went on to face Boyle in the Championship game)
The only real difference is our team hasn't had cupcakes in the first rounds. In the end it's not really how many wins you have it's who you've beat.
Just sayin'

Who has claimed a storied program?? We are just proud of our team this year. We are well aware of our past playoff experience without individuals with personal issues against our team continually pointing them out. Our claim is that we have a competitive team this year and we choose to support our team. We choose to support our team and not run down other programs. Just saying...

Sounds like you guys are a little bit sensitive over the facts of the situation. Russell County has a 2-21 playoff record. It is what it is.

You seem to have forgotten playoff wins against Danville, LCA, Breathitt County (twice) and a Sheldon Clark team that beat Belfry. See the way the playoffs work is you win your regular season games and get rewarded by playing easier first round games. Then you take care of those easy games and see how far you can go. Three Regional Championships and a State Runner-Up finish in the last three seasons says all that needs to be said. After struggling with the regular season part the Mighty Lakers figured that out last season. Maybe this will be the year they figure out how to beat the easy teams in the early rounds.
Who you lost to in 2009 and 2010 really doesn't mean much. I do remember a couple of games from those seasons for Russell County. 2009: Somerset 20, Russell County 20. 2010: Somerset 63, Russell County 19. We saw first hand just how good the Mighty Lakers were those two seasons.

We have no reason to be sensitive until arrogant individuals wishing to glorify their own teams find it uplifting to put down other teams. Yes, we do not have an outstanding playoff history, but within a month you have proudly pointed that out twice. Your sensitivity that we have a team to be proud of is quite obvious. Spend a little more time supporting your school and less time tearing down others. You are what you are.

Well despite our lack of tradition and past playoff success we have a chance to make a deep run in the playoffs this year. If somehow we could make it through the guantlet that is our region and pull off the huge upset of Big bad Highlands in the playoffs then another good team from the west in the finals...IF WE COULD somehow win a state title this year...it would be one more than some of the neighboring traditional powerhouse programs and their recruited players have achieved through their illustrious history.
Our team is taking one game at a time! They are working hard to get better every game! The Lakers have scored 162 points in three games and have not opened up the playbook at all yet! They are saving most of it for down the road. We are working hard as a program to build a winning tradition. Past success is just that...PAST! Ask Notre Dame how many games their tradition has won for them lately!

I wasn't being sensitive at all. The playoff record doesn't bother me one bit....all that matters is the coming Friday. My simple point, which somehow passed right by you, was that despite the record the Lakers were ousted by the runner up in 2009 & 2010, not really different than the Mighty Briar Jumpers. It just so happened that we didn't get to play those weaker teams prior to that game. In our district was Franklin Simpson & ACS, and our district matched up against Lone Oak. Teams that Somerset couldn't have beat in any of those years.
I'm also familiar with the outcomes of the last two times the Lakers & Briar Jumpers played, but in 2011 we had two common opponents (Whitley & Pulaski Co). The Lakers beat Whitley 30-0 & Pulaski 56-33. The Jumpers lost to Whitley 27-21 & Beat Pulaski 33-20. So, I feel quite good about my team and where they stand. And I didn't need to go into one of the bunny threads spewing crap to do so.

Since you like to compare scores how can you say Somerset couldn't have beaten Franklin Simpson and ACS? Didn't Somerset beat the Mighty Lakers by 43 in 2010 while those two teams beat Russell County by 36 points COMBINED in 3 games. It's a shame that Russell County chose not to continue the series after that 2010 game...It could have been settled on the field.
