Rebecca Greenwell sparks Tennesse Flight to Nike Nationals girls basketball title
#1
Rebecca Greenwell continued to prove she is one of the best female high school basketball players in the country while leading the Tennessee Flight to the championship in the prestigious Nike Nationals Gold Division Tuesday in North Augusta, S.C.

The 6-foot-1 senior from Owensboro Catholic (Ky.) poured in 22 points - including 17 during the final six minutes of the first half - to spark a 68-61 victory over Virginia-based Boo Williams.

It marked the third time in her career that she helped Tennessee Flight win the Nike Nationals. She was an eighth-grader and sophomore, respectively, on those previous occasions and was named tourney MVP as a sophomore.

Today she has moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., to practice with the USA U17 team in preparation for the World Championships.

The best news is that even though playing with a brace on her knee, she appeared recovered from tearing her anterior cruciate ligament last September. She returned from the injury in the spring and was named MVP in the Boo Williams Spring Invitational.

Greenwell, who will likely be a candidate for National Player of the Year, has narrowed her college choices to either Duke or Notre Dame, according to her coach, Ray Zuberer.

Flight coach Tom Insell told the Augusta Chronicle that Greenwell "has to be the most celebrated player ever to play Nike Basketball. There's been a lot more great players to play Nike Basketball. But for somebody to do what she's done is unbelievable."
