Faculty group critical of Kentucky's approach to scheduling
#1
So a group of college faculty members from across the nation has issued a statement condemning UK, coach Cal. and the basketball program and its scheduling. Well isn't that just devastating?( please read the word "devastating" with a snarky, sarcastic intonation that can't be conveyed
thru typing)

It's funny but I don't seem to recall hearing these "professors" complaining when Tom Izzo was scheduling games on aircraft carriers. I heard not
a peep from them when UK was in decline under Tubby Smith, yet agreed
to play Mich St in a dome just to set an attendance record. There doesn't seem to be a record of their complaint when these conferences play league tnmts. in cities where they don't have member shcools. These statements don't ever seem to get issued for any other school does anything out of teh ordinary that brings it such great attention.

Equally puzzling is how this self-satisfied group can't seem to summon the gumption to criticize their personal institutions of employment for desperately trying to recruit these same players that bring Cal such derision. And why is it I wonder, that not even the other three programs participating in the champions series, at neutral sites, with this self same renegade UK program;
don't come in for the same censure?

What a load of hypocritical manure. These sanctimonious jackasses should be fired from their schools for putting on display the intellectual bankrupcty present amongst their respective institutions.

Big time collegiate athletics LONG AGO ceased to have anything to do with academics, or with the "mission" of education. It is a business. And it is a
business that brings in far more money to the schools, than just whatever revenues the programs may earn. They allow the schools to leverage the attention and good will the teams generate, to go hat in hand to alumni and businesses for fat donations and endowments. It gives them tons of exposure that puts their names in front of millions of potential students that arte not athletes.

As for exploiting the students, what a crock. Even though a large majority of these kids may not take the study part of student-athlete seriously, that's no one's fault but their own. They are given the opportunity, even if the schools don't really care if they take advantage of it. And among the 4000 odd basketball players that may be playing in a given year, how many of them didn't start out dreaming about being good enough to go to the NBA after one year of college? 4-5, tops? And among them, how many wouldn't leave school afer one year of they felt certain of being a top 5 pick in the draft? A half a dozen, maybe?

So professors, take a look in the mirror. If you want to be biblical about it,
try removing the beam from your eye, before pointing out the mote in Ky's.
UK's hypocrisy quotient is much lower than your's. And our coach probably
has a far greater commitment to the welfare of his players than your's does.
If you want to issue a condemnation of collegiate athletics, then start on your own doorstep, and be sure you refuse any endowment checks that might
come from someone who wears a Hometown U tee-shirt on the weekends. Otherwise, take your "statement" and stick it where the academic light doesn't shine.

Such as? "The Righteous Indignation of the Snow White Pure" perhaps?

No...
something like "Faculty group critical of Kentucky's approach to scheduling"
#10
Anyway....
it seems to me like this is pretty ridiculous.
The whole thing seems like they are trying to make a case against them simply to have something to argue about.

I think the Indiana series completely comes down to Cal not wanting to play on their gym every other year.

If they want to say Cal is scared to play true road games against really good teams they may have an argument...
but to say they are "no longer designed to provide students pursuing a college education the opportunity to compete" is totally ludicrous.

Duke has been doing the same thing and took a lot of flack for it for years.
If Cal is moving in that direction then this will be something that comes up often.

That's an assinine contention. Criticism of Duke is nigh on non-existent in meida circles. And there's certainly been no comparable "statements"
such as this issued about their school or program, or any other major D-1 program you'd care to name, on a pointed individual basis like this.

^ Good lord, when will you ever learn how to use the "QUOTE" button.......:why:

Just shut up.
You've officially wasted my last second of time by reading your one-way biased opinions on everything.

That's the best you have got? Snippy Little Girls??? Your ignorance has put you right up there with that Dumb Stupid Redneck FAN as the two dumbest posters in this sites history! You plagiarize stories and post ignorant commentary for your own ears, because everyone else here laughs at your ignorance! I love good hearted debate, but you have nothing worth debating. You make the troll's on here look like Albert Einstein!

Good for them in trying to draw attention to the mockery of student athletics. The one and done process is ruining college athletics

Carefull, I just called him "snippy", it's untelling what derision calling him "classless" might call down on your head. But seems like it WOULD be
reasonable to expect a little more decorum from a "moderator" than from a run of the mill poster.

Touchy, touchy. I guess with your failure to point out any plagiarism, I can expect an apology for the false accusation to be coming soon?

Duke may have gotten flack from posters and tweeters but I am unaware of the mainstream media. They are the "Obama" of the basketball world, the media has protected them and been their propaganda machine for years. ESPN, Billy Pucker, etc. etc.

I apologize to all the members of BGR that happen to blindly stumble into one of your posts of blundering innuendo and repetitive posts :Shaking:

I've heard a handful of snarky comments about Duke not playing true non-conference road games on ESPN. They aren't as common as people hating on Calipari....but Calipari has been the ugly duckling of the NCAA coaching world for years now. The media has hated him since his UMass days and it hasn't changed. UK fans love him - He brings a ton of good talent in, he wins ballgames, does commercials, gets out in the community, and most of all he has hung two final four banners and a championship banner in three years. That's what you want out of a coach but his history with the media has been pretty rocky and that will take some time to change (if it ever does).

and anyway...
the mainstream media hasn't said anything negative about UK's scheduling either.
Jerry Tipton wrote an article about some professors getting pissed....

Jerry Tipton is a LONG way from mainstream-national media and his criticism of Calipari might as well be overlooked at this point.

A very small handful. The media lovefest with Duke started around 20 years ago. Kentucky has never been their equal when it comes to the "national media". At least not in the last 20 years.

You got the timeline right on, but in a sense UK and Duke are opposite
sides of the same coin for the media. Duke is their Christ and UK their Satan,
in terms of the good and evil in collegiate athletics. And to continue
the parallel, UK was the evil Satan even before the light of college
basketball, Duke, was born in to the world.
