f things break just right with the Big East/SEC Challenge â which means if ESPN gives its blessing â thereâs a chance that national champion Kentucky could play at UC in 2012-13.
Of course, those are two really big âifs,â but such a matchup is at least a legitimate possibility.
The Bearcats, who won at Georgia last year in the Big East/SEC Challenge are scheduled to play in it again this season, this time as a home team. Kentucky is scheduled to be in the event as a road team.
âLast year we lobbied for Kentucky but ESPN picks the matchups,â Cronin said. âNow thereâs speculation that Kentucky will be sent here because theyâre a road team and weâre a home team. Youâd think it would be logical because weâre close by. But ESPN makes that decision.â
What are the chances a UC-Kentucky game will happen?
âThereâs 12 teams (in the event) so thereâs six home teams,â Cronin said. âWeâre one of six. So thereâs a 17 percent chance thatâs going to happen.â
Cronin said he has talked to Kentucky, which recently ended its series with Indiana, about replacing the Hoosiers with a game against UC at U.S. Bank Arena, with the two schools splitting the gate. But he understands the Wildcats have a lot of marquee games theyâre committed to playing and might not want to add another one.
âIf youâre them,â Cronin said, âhow many blockbusters do you want?âhttp://cincinnati.com/blogs/uc/2012/05/0...n-2012-13/

I would love to see this game. It's a shame ESPN has to pick the match up because they'll most likely screw it up.

and you know UC will play that game in US Bank Arena, practically making it a home game for UK. Even if they can't get ESPN's blessing this year, this would be something both sides should look into.

âRelax, all right? Donât try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, theyâre fascist. Throw some ground balls â itâs more democratic.â
