The Reds have won two in a row for the first time this year.

The win was 10,000th win in franchise history. The club has won 9,451 games in the National League. The Reds won another 549 in the American Association.

Homer Bailey went seven innings and allowed four runs — only one of which was earned — on five hits to earn his first win of the season. He walked none and struck out two.

The Reds bats were alive again. The Reds pounded out 12 hits for the second straight day. Drew Stubbs had his second straight three-hit game and drove in three runs.

It started early. The Reds batted around for the first. It was the first time they’ve done that in any innings this year.

Stubbs got it started with a single to right to extend his hitting streak to six games. Stubbs stole second and went to third on shortstop Starlin Castro’s error. Joey Votto singled to get Stubbs in.

Jay Bruce singled, sending Votto to third. Bruce stole second. Scott Rolen walked. Chris Heisey got Bruce and Votto in with a single. Rolen went to third and Heisey to second when center fielder Marlon Byrd bobbled the ball.

Rolen scored on Willie Harris’ groundout. That made it 4-0.

The Cubs got two gift runs in the third. Castro hit one to Heisey at the wall in left. He tried to make a basket catch and dropped the ball for two-run error. David DeJesus scored on the play. Bryan LaHair singled to score Castro.

But the Reds got the runs right back in the fourth. Devin Mesoraco singled with one out. Homer Bailey struck out trying to bunt Mesoraco over. Zack Cozart followed with a single. Stubbs got both runners home with a double into the right field corner to make it 6-2.

The Cubs added a run in the fifth. Pinch-hitter Blake DeWitt led off with a double and eventually scored on Darwin Barney’s groundout.

The Cubs scored another unearned run in the sixth.

But the Reds tacked on one in the eighth and another in the ninth.

Opposite for Zack Cozart in the #1 slot.

But the offense in general are showing signs of life.
