Good Coach !!
#63
Rains may be a good coach, time will tell. I just don"t understand why we have to go out of the county to find a coach. Did the commity even interview anyone in Letcher county? If they did who was it, because i was told that no one was.

I did not get a chance to mention the fact that I do think Mike is a good guy and an excellent football mind. At Christian County he won a lot of games but like I said before the kids fit into his system. At Powell he did a great job of rebuilding a program that was down and out and won more games there than most people thought he would. He left Powell County much better than he found it and he did the same for Christian County. He had a great coaching career at Leslie County and I do think he will land on his feet somewhere else and do a great job. I hear he may be going to Montgomery County and he will be a great fit for them. But for some reason he did not fit here in Letcher County. I'm actually someone that thinks a lot of Mike and wish him nothing but the best of luck and success in the future. I do not know Coach Raines that well but I do know his reputation as a great disciplinarian and excellent leader for young men. I wish him the best of luck in rebuilding a beaten down LCC team. I hope he does go out and get those kids that aren't playing and get us back to what we were a few years ago. I don't think our community is blind and ignorant, we know that it will take a little time and effort to get his system in and put his handprint on the football program but hopefully we have chosen the right person to take the Cougar team into the future.

Could someone post the LCC schedule for 2012 please?

Nobody was interviewed from Letcher County. Terry Howard applied but was not given an interview. Shows what decades of working with kids on the middle and high school levels get you. It is a foregone conclusion that you are wasting your time if you do apply for one of the major coaching positions. I think it is a prefabricated way of saying we went through an application process to select a coach. JMO

I will support the Letcher Central football team and Coach Rains. Coach Rains is not to be blamed for the process.

Talked to Terry this week and he said that it didn't shock him that he didn't get an interview for the job. He said that the reason he applied was the fact that several of his ex-players along with their parents ask him to apply and he said that he owed it to them to at least put his name in as a candidate. He said he knew how it works in Letcher County and knew that they already had a coach waiting in the wings just waiting to be named.

Wish they would at least offer him to be a part of the team as offensive coordinator or work with running backs( he is awesome at developing running backs), or something. The man has done more for Letcher Co than any other coach. I would trust my boys both in his care. Letcher Co people need to be involved somehow.

You guys talk about how he has a tendency to move around a lot. NEWS FLASH people from outside the mountains move around a lot in coaching. It is part of coaching not everybody stays at their hometown school for 35 years and then retires.

The link (had been there) only shows Harlan Co. on October 5 and October 12, and that is it. I was guessing last season's schedule with the home/away switching, but thought someone may have it for sure. Thanks for the help though.

They will have most of the finalization closer to summer. New coach means he will have to sit down and look at non conference. Don't know how many of the non conference was one year or home/away.

Great Pick up for LCC! I remember playing for Coach Raines at Johnson Central back in 1986! Fun Coach!

I agree, I actually think Terry would be a good asset to coach Rains and he is a good motivator for the players, most have already played for him he has that knack to get the most out of the players.would be great for both sides.:notworthy

This was in his younger coaching days. He was the D coordinator. Great Coach and Great motivator!

I remember one this one time that I locked his keys in the locker room. I had to help him in through a hole in the wall that an old air conditioning unit used to be. He got about half way in and he started shaking, kicking and screaming for some reason. Well, after he FELL the rest of the way in. We found out why. There was still a live wire from the old AC in the wall. I couldn't keep from LMAO at him and he couldn't keep from running my ass off the rest of practice!..:biglmao:

I'll NEVER forget that!

I've heard through the grapevine that Joker Phillips is being considered as head recruiter and Jon Gruden is being brought in for strength & conditioning. High-profile Anna!!!!

I got a buddy who played under Rains at Hazard, he speaks high of Rains. I hope he stays there a while and gets the Cougar program back to where it was while Hillard was there. Good Luck LCC.

I walked up to the field during the PCC/LCC baseball game and I thought it was just the WR's out there...Well apparently it was the entire team. I think he knows that he has his work cut out for him. Maybe more will come out, idk. Best of luck to the Cougars..
#89
Does it look like some new faces that sit out last year is up there? I hope so. Talked to some coaches, and Cutler is the defensive coordinator, and Raines himself will run the offense. He is also going to be more active in the middle school feeder program. Something Whitaker didn't do. So far so good.

Whitaker didn't interact with the middle school programs because he knew he was done after this past year and would never see those middle school faces. I honestly didn't stay long enough or talk to anyone long enough to know who was new and who wasn't but by the size of this team so far, very small and appears very young...and that is plainly going on first glance. I wouldn't think there were more than 30 kids there.
