Covington Catholic 3, Bishop Brossart 2: Tied at two in the bottom of the seventh, Covington Catholic’s Cody Severson hit a two-out walk-off single to drive in senior pitcher Tom Arnzen in the season opener. Arnzen also picked up the win for CovCath.

Senior left fielder Cory Severson’s walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh lifted Covington Catholic to a 3-2 win over Brossart on Thursday.
Senior third baseman Tommy Arnzen had doubled earlier in the inning, and he came around to score the winning run on Severson’s base hit through the right side of the infield.
Arnzen’s RBI double in the first inning gave the Colonels a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and they went up by two runs in the third on an RBI single by senior first baseman Eric Schneider.
Brossart battled back to tie the score in the top of the fifth, but CovCath senior Jimmy Tomlin came out of the bullpen to toss 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.
