I was really hoping to see Moore and Mekale McKay make it to Rupp but, I guess PRP was the better team today! Congrats Panthers!

It’s been a long year for the Pleasure Ridge Park High School boys’ basketball team since getting embarrassed by Bullitt East in the final of the Class Act Sixth Region Tournament.
On Tuesday night, the Panthers will get their shot at redemption.
Jeril Taylor and Max Clemons combined for 33 points and 19 rebounds and Cortez Macklin made several key plays down the stretch as PRP beat Moore 61-56 in Sunday’s regional semifinals at Bellarmine University’s Knights Hall.
The Panthers (26-6), No. 2 in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings, will face No. 5 Bullitt East (26-4) at 7 p.m. Tuesday for the right to advance to next week’s Sweet 16. The Chargers beat the Panthers 81-58 in last year’s regional final, and the teams haven’t met since then.
“We’re confident; we’re ready,” Clemons said. “We want the revenge against Bullitt East.”
Taylor (17 points, nine rebounds), Clemons (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Lamontray Harris (eight points, nine rebounds) all had big nights and helped the Panthers post a 38-27 rebounding advantage.
Coach Dale Mabrey said rebounding and keeping Moore from penetrating and getting to the rim were keys to turning the tables after the Mustangs’ 73-72 victory over the Panthers on Feb. 17.
With PRP’s defense daring Moore to shoot from the outside, the Mustangs hoisted 20 3-point attempts and made just four. The Mustangs shot 37.5 percent overall (21 of 56).
Moore coach Shedrick Jones Jr. said the forced shots were the result of frustration and impatience.
“We really shouldn’t have taken them, anyway,” he said. “We should have kept running our stuff and trying to penetrate against them. We settled, and our shots weren’t falling. Then they’d run out and score.”
Jaelin Sanford led the No. 6 Mustangs (28-5) with 15 points, and Daquan Boyd added 11 points and five steals. Sixth Region Co-Player of the Year Mekale McKay, who had 22 points and 10 rebounds in the Feb. 17 victory over PRP, finished 2 of 12 from the field and had seven points, six rebounds and three steals Sunday.
Antonio McDaniels’ 3-pointer from near midcourt gave PRP a 16-13 lead after the first quarter, and the Panthers increased the advantage to 28-20 at halftime as the Mustangs failed to score over the final 4:31 of the half.
PRP never trailed in the second half and still led 57-50 on Harris’ basket with 2:33 left in the game. But Moore had a final run, pulling within 57-56 on McKay’s steal and one-handed dunk with 1:27 remaining.
After a PRP turnover, Moore had a chance to take the lead, but Jamon Sanford missed a 3-point try. Macklin’s layup gave the Panthers a 59-56 lead with 40 seconds left, and the Mustangs missed a pair of 3-point tries on their next possession.
Macklin sank two free throws with 7.9 seconds left for the final margin.
It was a tough ending for a Moore program that prospered under Jones, their first-year coach. Moore reached the final of the Louisville Invitational Tournament in January, falling to No. 1 Trinity, and reached a regional semifinal for the first time since 2002.
“We kind of changed the whole atmosphere of the school,” Jones said. “It was a fun ride, but I didn’t want it to end now.”
