My First Round Predictions:

Collins over South Oldham
Simon Kenton over Gallatin County
Owen County over Anderson County
Oldham County over Grant County

All four games should be good games. I think Oldham should be the biggest favorites to win their game and the other 3 should be very close. I wouldn't be surprised if South Oldham, Gallatin County, or Anderson County win in the first round.

-The Monday games looks to be really good matchups. Interestingly, the two district runner ups in those matchups (South Oldham and Gallatin) beat their opponents (Collins and SK) in the December by 15 and 19 respectively. A long time ago.
-Owen beat Anderson in OT at Anderson earlier in January. Also a long time ago.
-Oldham owns a 5 point win on the road over Grant in January, but I would say that they would be the most definitive favorite of all the first round games.
Like you said, it wouldn't be a huge surprise in any outcomes of the three other games.

Oldham could not draw up the tourney better if they wrote it out themshelfs.

Collins has the hardest road.
I am picking a SK vs Oldham final, with Oldham cutting down the Nets.

Should be a great tournament .... wouldn't surprise me to see any of them representing the 8th at Rupp.

I agree. Oldham got the best draw and Collins/South Oldham got the worst.

The Oldham County High School boys’ basketball team will begin defense of its Eighth Region Tournament championship on Thursday against Grant County.

The Colonels (26-5), No. 16 in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings, drew the Braves (15-15) during Sunday’s tournament draw. Tipoff for Thursday’s game is set for 8 p.m. at Henry County.

Oldham County won 51-46 at Grant County on Jan. 17.

Oldham County is one of two Top 20 teams in the Eighth Region Tournament. No. 20 South Oldham (20-9) will face Collins (22-10) in the tournament opener at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

South Oldham beat Collins 77-62 on Dec. 15, but the Titans recently added two transfers and have won five in a row.

Norvis Smith, a 6-foot-3 senior, and his brother, Terez Smith, a 6-6 junior, enrolled at Collins this month after moving from Trenton (Mich.).

The other regional quarterfinals will match Simon Kenton and Gallatin County at 8 p.m. Wednesday and Owen County against Anderson County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The semifinals are set for next Monday with the final slated for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6.

Would love to see this happen. Think Oldham Co. has a easier path to the finals. 8th region is a crap-shoot this year because there are more quality teams than a typical year. SK has improved a lot as the season has progressed. There first round oppenent beat them by 19 second game of the season. One game at a time.

Two GREAT games tonight. Collins and South Oldham was back and forth the entire game with both teams playing very well. Collins, lead by 6'8" Brian Stone with 24 points and 14 rebounds won 69-63. Gallatin County had a huge comeback outscoring Simon Kenton 32-12 in the 4th quarter, including hitting a 3 at the buzzer to win 56-55. Collins vs. Gallatin County should be a good one Monday. Gallatin is a great shooting team but Collins is a lot bigger than Gallatin. Collins defeated GC 61-58 in the first game of the season.

Tonights first game, Owen vs Anderson should be a close one. I will take Owen 56 - 52.
Oldham should row over Grant.

The 2 games last night was about as good as High School Basketball can get.

Lets go OWEN...

Whoa! March Madness arrived a few hours early at Henry County High School.

The first night of the boys’ Eighth Region Tournament was rockin with two sensational games on Wednesday.

Collins won the first game 69-63 over South Oldham, while Gallatin County rallied for a dramatic 56-55 victory over Simon Kenton in the night cap.

Here’s a recap and a few thoughts:

• One of the biggest shots of the season – to this point – came from Jordan Morris. The senior hit a pair of three-pointers in a 32-12 fourth-quarter surge by Gallatin County, including a 25-footer just before the buzzer for the one-point win. Morris sprinted down the right side of the floor, point guard Travis Davis drew the defense to him on the left and dished to Morris, who calmly lifted up and drained the three. It was a sweet shot.

• Gallatin County coach Jon Jones said his team was “awful” in the first three quarters. But even when he wasn’t playing very good, I could tell junior guard Kristian Morgan is a player. The 6-foot Morgan scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter. He was very active even when his shot wasn’t falling.

• Simon Kenton senior Cody Chambers led his team with 16 points, while I liked the play of junior Andrew Sampson, who finished with 13.

• Collins was very impressive in the first game, getting a monster 24-point, 15-rebound performance from 6-8 center Brian Stone. The senior was 12-for-12 from the field in the game. He gets the ball inside, it’s going in the basket. Junior Dez Marshall is really active and had 17 points, while junior Buddy Johnson had three three-pointers and 13 points. Michigan transfers Terez Smith and Norvis Smith both passed the look test. Terez is a 6-6 junior and played a lot, scoring 11 and getting five rebounds. Norvis is a 6-4 senior and didn’t play a ton but is a great-looking athlete. I wouldn’t be surprised if Collins wins the region. I picked Oldham County but Collins has the team to make a run into the Sweet 16 and win a game or two if it can get there.

• South Oldham was gritty and battled down to the wire. The Dragons will be a team that can win the region next season with all five starters being juniors. Jack Sherry, the quarterback in football, was impressive with 16 and had four three-pointers. Junior guard Shea Goodlett had 17 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Drew Greenwood had 10. Sophomore Kyle Young is another sophomore to watch.

• Speaking of a player to watch, Collins eighth-grader Malik Manica could be a future star. The 5-foot-9 guard came in and played 10 minutes and looked like a veteran at times. He only made 3 of 7 free throws but had three assists.

I heard Collins' big man Brian Stone did not make all-region! Is this true? How is this possible?

He did not. Dez Marshall is the only Collins player that made all-region. I don't know how Brian was left off, the voters must not have seen him play.

There were several good players left off .... now they can make names for themselves in this regional tournament. Thats the best thing about sports ... the "cream will rise to the top." When the game starts hype doesn't matter.
