Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno is near death, a source confirmed to The Citizens' Voice.

Paterno's wife, Sue, summoned close friends and longtime staff members this afternoon to the State College hospital where Paterno has been undergoing treatments since last weekend.

Paterno wanted to see them and say a final goodbye, Sue told one of the staff members, the source said.

Paterno, diagnosed with cancer days after his Nov. 9 firing, has been weakened by radiation and chemotherapy treatments, a member of his family told the Voice.

I will let the late great "Voice of the Mountaineers" Jack Fleming describe Joe Pa.

Still listed in serious condition
It came across that he died but that has since been deemed false

I feel bad for the Paterno family. Devastating to go through what they have had to go through. Joe has to atone for his own actions, and though I lost 100% respect and even have no care for the man when I learned that he allowed Sandusky to sit in his family's Box on the day of Joe's record breaking win, 6 years after knowing about the events that transpired that made the press.

Joe Pa, I won't be the judge of what you allowed under your watch as it is seen from the eyes of God, all I can say is "Good Luck"! You don't need the forgivness of the 10, 11, 12, and 13 year-old boys who could have been helped under your watch, you will need Gods. As my 18 year-old son asked me today, "Dad, with all that came out this year about Penn St, do you think God has a way of letting things happen?". My comment was that "I don't believe God makes bad things happen, like Joe's illness, but does he allow us to suffer for our sins as a way to teaching others, yes, I do believe that he may do that".

I'm fairly confident that all of us have learned valuable lessons in this situation. Sure, you may not want to narc out your buddy, but would you narc him out if he was hurting the life of an innocent child? Did Joe Pa do enough? I guess it really does not matter what we think does it?

Wow, imagine how much trouble Penn State would have avoided if they had not fired him and just let this happen.
You know the administration knew his health was getting really bad. looks like they couldve just let nature take its course in this one, but obviously wanted to save face.

I'm indifferent. I do feel for Joe's family, but not for Joe. Every time I think of Joe, I think of what he knew and continued to let happen, and the impact it had on innocent children. Maybe Sandusky will be next........ fingers crossed.

^ My thoughts as well!

God "wishes he would have done more" joe. But he just "didn't know which way to go". So in the end "He just did what he thought was best".

Keep fighting Joe Pa!
