The one eyed pirate Wrote:I talked with some sw parents after the game and it was the kids first ever t so not really sure what your deal is, and IMO both should have very well been a double t on both players. That was also the take from the sw fans I spoke with. But I think this will be good for the warriors and can't wait for the rematch.
A senior has to be smarter than to get a technical in a spot like that whether it should have been a double or not. From what I've heard from 2-3 neutral observers he deserved both of them and only the first one could have been a double T. After the first one he was looking for a chance to get back at the kid that was involved in the first incident. Selfish play. Hopefully he learns from it.

I'm interested to see the next game between these two. And hopefully they get drawn across the bracket from each other in region.

And, congrats to PC.

For some reason I thought Kody Johnson had an off game. But he ends up with 27 points. Wow. Good win for PC. He and Gover are the best two players in this region.
Warriors keep your head up, learn from it and continue to improve. I hate that Isaacs missed that last shot. NOBODY works harder on their game than this kid. He is going to be a great player before his career is over.

Im surprised that coach wright did not let Rob Lewis have more of an impact in the game, he is too much for PC to guard

Does anyone know who Steve Wright is bringing in next year. Josh Maxey done a good job for him this year,,,,,point guard just what they needed. I saw he was at the game and entered the building with Kapinga and left the building with Kapinga. Wright sure is a piece of work. If I was a parent of one of the kids in the program I would be ticked..

No kidding. SW should have took advantage of PC not having a true big man.

I have watched this group of seniors play since middle school and the big guy is there rock. When things we get bad like they did early, they would look for him and he wasnt there. With the minutes he played he had a huge impact, if he was in more, things would have been different. Rob Lewis makes everyone just a little bit better when he is. and it shows.

Just wanna say thanks to Forever Maroon for keeping me updated on this game! Was a heck of a game and sounded like it got a little chippy at the end but, that is expected in a rivalry game!
Congrats Maroons!!

It was the least I could do, considering how bad of a time you were having, laying on the beach and all. Haha!

However if Maxey is reading this, SW will need a Center next year and a power forward. They will be loaded at the guard position. They should have kapinga, schulz, isaacs, colyer and edwards. They have a freshman that will be a pretty good center, but he is two years away from dominating.
I know PC won the game but I still think the trip to Rupp goes thru SW. They have three starters off last years regional runner up team, coming off the bench.

I really wish Schulz was still there. One of the nicest guys around. I miss seeing him on the sidelines.

Recruiting will always come back to bite u in the patootie one way or another. True championship coaches win with what they have (they coach them). It doesn't take a championship coach to win games with players picked up all of the state/country.

First let me say this: I respect PC just as much as I respect SW. I think Al Gover is a good basketball coach. And I dont blame Taylor Gover for playing at PC under his Uncle.
Now I say this: Taylor Gover lives in the shadow of Southwestern High School. His sister attended SWHS. So if the school was good enough for his sister, it should be good enough for him. In fact if you look at academics and state test scores, I think we can rule out academics as the reason that he attends PCHS.
He lives in Southwesterns district ( and in reality should attend SWHS). If Taylor is at SWHS, there would be no need for Kapinga. So if your a PC fan I dont really think you should complain about Wright getting Kapinga.
If I was Wright, I would gladly send Kapinga back to Canada if Gover started attending the proper school dictated by the district lines ( SWHS).
I can't wait for the rematch.

^Him and Goins (and the Halls FWIW) were both at Somerset until Pulaski offered Gover the job. Nothing fishy about that at all, same old song and dance.

As for the Halls, they let everyone know they were going to Pulaski.... BEFORE Gover was hired. Do you really want to get into the "this kid should be here or there"? Somerset, Pulaski and Southwestern would look a lot different. And let's not get into all the kids who have played at Somerset while living on Slate Branch Rd, Hwy 39(Eagle's Nest and beyond), Oak Hill and other areas outside Somerset city limits. It has gone on for decades at all 3 schools in town, so don't hate when you get out recruited.
01-16-2012, 11:36 AM
That was my point exactly, to the person who is on Wright about getting Kapinga. All three local schools "get" players.
Some go just over the district line to get one, some go just over the Canadian border to get one.
The ironic thing, is that Wright would NOT have won a state championship at South Laurel, if the Shilo guy would have not recruited for North Laurel. Because he brought in
the 3 international players, the sophomore center that was at North Laurel had to sit on the bench and decided to transfer to South Laurel. There is no way South wins the state tourny without him.
Karma baby Karma

:dontthink Shame on me for not excluding the Merricks in the bold part. Cameron Merricks parents were Great supporters of the team and program. They are awesome people that I have a tremendous amount of respect for.

No I don't want to get into the discussion, because I don't care. Just saying don't call out Wright like he is an evil guy when your school is doing it too. As for the district lines, so what. I lived on Slate Branch in middle school and went to Somerset because I wanted to actually win trophies(I'm football exclusive), not because I was recruited. Science Hill kids would probably tell you the same thing.
01-16-2012, 09:55 PM
I never said anything about Wright, although he is a great recruiter. Just saying it happens at ALL the local schools. And maybe the kids you are referring to went to PC for the exact same reason you went to SHS, not by being recruited, but because they wanted to.
01-16-2012, 11:09 PM
Every school in the county has some sort of 'recruit' or kid that should be playing at another school.
01-16-2012, 11:34 PM
I didn't necessarily mean you FM, but others were calling him out. And I'm sure you're right about kids that go to PC or SW from SHS. I'm a Somerset fan but you won't catch me bad mouthing the other schools for their success, you don't believe me you are welcome to roll through my posts and see. I just didn't see how the comments about Wright and SW were necessary in this thread or in the Commonwealth Journal.
01-16-2012, 11:55 PM
I thought the quote in the paper was dead on. Without the new kids sw would have another losing season like last year

Also found out today that wright was paying for Kapingas rent and this is coming from someone in his own little group. It was also said by a laurel county native that said they were positive and had proof.

I also heard that today, so I wouldn't doubt it not being true. I also heard he is living by himself at the moment.
