Favorite HS basketball gym Past or Present

I wish some one had some pics of the old Flat Gap, Meade Memorial and Oil Springs Gyms from back in the 40s and 50s. One era I would give anything to have seen.

Sherman Neace Athletic Center got to be my favorite gym ever. Knott Central's gym a great gym as well.

In Northern KY
CovCath: without the crazies, its just another gym
Holmes: all the history in that big gym
Holy Cross: small gym, fans are right on top of you. It's pretty close to being a sauna.

Around the state
Mason County: The Fieldhouse is epic
Scott County: If were calling that a gym
Somerset: The name itself does it for me, but the seating is pretty cool
Hazard: historic and cool, love the pics btw
Western Hills: unique

Agree with hook, I would love to see some pics of the old gyms in johnson county.

I always liked Sheldon Clarks floor... seemed like you could jump out of the gym there. As far as facilities go, I believe LC has one of the nicest in the area.

Never did care for Paintsvilles gym. It has to be one of the loudest gyms in the state... especially with the band playing or when they have the music blaring.

Can anyone remember the old Inez High School gym in Martin County? There was a lot of big time basketball played inside there from the late 40's-mid 60's or 70's maybe. Also, there was an outdoor cage court in the parking lot that was right beside of Main Street in Inez; but anyway, I can't remember the exact story but that cage court was in a magazines top 10 list for best outdoor ball courts in a America. I'm pretty sure the list also included Rucker.

The old Haldeman High School gym is a classic old school small gym. Love just sitting in there.

I played a few league games at Haldeman, while in college. Can't remember but where were the seats.

I do remember where the bootlegger was located.

Mullins was a tough place to play at and I liked Johns Creek too, fans could be pretty loud there. And Paintsville was a nice atmosphere, especially when they had a really good team.

Two of the best gym's in the state in my opinion are Shelby County's and Henry County's. Both are fairly large and have a lot of history. I have seen many great games in both gyms. The atmosphere at Henry County during the 8th region tournament is incredible.

What about the old Martin High School gym in Floyd County it was small and they had a tile floor not wooden or rubber like McDowell's.

i always Betsy Lane , Rupp and Little Rupp (Shelby Valley)

Williamson's Fieldhouse has been my favorite to watch the Panthers play over the past few years. Love the old school feel.

Loved shooting at Paintsville. The backdrop being so close was good for the shooter. Can see where people would like watching big games there. Can be intimidating.

I have heard stories about the old Pikeville gymnasium located where the Blue Goose is now. Have been told it was top notch back then.

Speaking of the Goose, the Blue Goose just is awesome haha. Grew up playing, practicing there. It is a definite different type of place to play. Love that place.

I hate, hate, hate the new huge gyms like SV, ER, Belfry, etc... Just too generic. I like gymnasiums that have character, age, that are unique and bring that community feel.

I forgot Marshall County

Mason County Field House - Very Nice Gymnasium

Knott County Central - Very Nice Gymnasium, I love the Big K in the middle of the court and how it's a horseshoe shaped arena. Clock on the poll right above the backboard, light's all the way around each backboard. If I'm not mistaken Knott has the big score board that colleges have that hangs in the middle of the court.

Estill County - Like how the goals come out from the wall instead of coming down from the ceiling. I know the players prefer those goals over the one's that come down from the ceiling. Also like how Estill re-done there floor this past summer.

Powell County - Shooters Gym

Hazard Memorial Gym

Letcher Central - Never been there, hopefully I'm able to make it up there this year. Heard very nice things about the Letcher Central Complex (Football Field, Gymnasium, etc. etc.)

The one thing Estill needs is NEW SCOREBOARDS! Scoreboards we have now have only been changed 1 time in either 20 or 40 Years
