That sucks man. Well you all definitely went down playing your best, and that's all anyone on the Belfry side could ask for. Losing in your last game, I won't lie, is probably one of the worst feelings you'll have in life. But you'll have a bright future ahead, and played a part in one of the best traditions in the state in Belfry. Time will pass, and while you'll miss this part of your life, you'll move onto bigger and better things. Best of luck to you, and thank you for being a big part of a great state in football.

They would know that Belfry won this game. I counted 6 blocks in the back that were not called and is total garbage by the refs and the coaching staff of Central. One was crucial and would have made that Amazing Td pass come back. Ill give central one thing they sure do know how to cheap shot when they are frustrated. Central for whatever reason had 16 players on both sides of the ball. Belfry Seniors im sorry for how this game was played out. Way to absolutly tear it up and shock some people. POLL!! :lmao: Sure, most Belfry fans would pick their team in the poll, but if you would READ the thread, you would see that only a very few actually picked Belfry to win. If you would read it, you would see where they would say things like "Even thou Central is going to win, I can't pick against the Pirates". That is not word for word. Also those that did pick Central, picked them in a blowout and that Wales would run all over them. Neither happened. Central played the best competition in 3a ball and came out with a 1point win. A win is a win. But a blowout is was not.

Ok, I think it's gonna be one heck of a game. Belfry has a good team and so does Central, both teams deserve to be here. After a hard battle-tested win vs. an up and coming, talented, and very good Garrard Co. team last Friday night. The Pirates earned there way back to Bowling Green. When you go on the road in back-to-back weeks and play tough teams you learn something about yourself. Central finished the last round on the road. So here are a couple of things that you might not be aware of.
Points Scored this season
Belfry- 565
Central- 549
Points Allowed
Belfry- 196
Central- 224
Playoff Games on the Road
Belfry-2
Central-1
Playoff Opp W-L Record
Belfry 30-20
Central 31-19

Belfry-1
Central- 3

Belfry- 5
Central- 3
Just fun facts that mean nothing. It means they play a game between two white lines and have 11 players each. These are 15,16,17 year old Kids who will give everything that they have in them to acheive a state title good luck to both teams and look forward to seeing just "WHAT HAPPENS" on Sat.
From my original post I knew that it would be a great game and it was. My hats off to both teams after have been around these Pirates for many years you hate to see them lose a game like that and on the other hand I couldn't be more PROUD of these young men. Congrats to both teams on the best championship this year and one that will be remembered for years to come. I really expect to see both back next year and look forward to their matchup.

After sleeping and the adrenaline easing off this morning I look back on yesterdays game.
What I just realized is that it may have been the classiest ending I have ever seen. The game was AMAZING and Central won the game without their star player. I will forever be impressed with the respect that Central gave Belfry after the game. We as fans can talk all day every day about the game but when it's all said and done it's the respect from the other team that really matters and while emotions where high and both teams played their hearts out when it was over both teams respected each other and realized they had just possibly played the best game of the weekend.
Hat's off to Central for getting #4. 3 of your 4 have been won over Belfry, you want number 5? You may just have to face the skull and crossbones one more time.

A day after and after watching the replay a few thoughts:
1. Central's LB's are phenomenal talents to be so young. Francis was EVERYWHERE and on at least 3 occasions Belfry had him isolated 1 on 1 with their RB's in space and he was able to make the tackle. The 2007/2008 team with Patterson and Wilson were special and big time prospects, but I think the combo of Styles/Francis will be a better HS tandem by the time they are through.
2. Not intending to make an excuse, but the late hit call on Central's final scoring drive was an absolutely horrendous call after seeing the replay. Milliken clearly was the one who initiated the contact, and even then it was as he was going out of bounds. What makes it worse was when Belfry had the ball after the blocked punt and Messer gets hit going out of bounds it was at the very least an equally deserving call. Had that call been made Belfry would have 1st and 10 at the C16 and had a very legitimate shot at a FG. Do I feel the hit on Messer deserved a flag on its own merits? No. Do I feel the flag on the Milliken play lost the game? No.
3. Can't get over how well Milliken played. He has always been in the shadow of Wales, ut he stepped up yesterday and won that game. Putting the gorgeous TD pass aside, he kept numerous plays alive with his feet and his QB draw on their scoring drive was huge. All 15 points were thanks to Milliken.
4. Speaking of which, hats off to Ty Scroggins for his coaching yesterday. The Flea Flicker was an awesome call to open the game as you could tell the Pirate D was dialed into the run. The Field Goal it created proved to be the difference. He also showed his merit in his ability to switch to the short passing game when Belfry was owning Cox and their running game. Once Belfry was creating issues with their passing game he brought the scatback Howard in and was able to get nice yardage and open the passing game back up. He continues to prove to me that he is on the short list of the State's Top Coaches.
5. The end of the game is what football is all about with the sportsmanship and respect showed after both teams beat the brains out of each other all afternoon.

First, congratulations to Central.
Now, I want to say that this is by far one of THE best high school football games I've ever watched. The Pirates went into this game as the underdog. The statement was even made in another post/thread that they should just stay home and have their runner-up trophy mailed to them! Well, the proved that without a doubt, they COULD play with central. Not taking anything away from Wales, but he had 2 carries for -1 yards. Belfry had him from the start. The PIRATE defense was amazing. Those young men left everything they had on the field yesterday and I do think have finally earned some respect that is LONG overdue! For example: They have been ranked behind the likes of Bell and Breathitt all year long. For this young group to end up where they were and to play like they did, they deserve respect! I know there will be some out there that are just flat out Belfry haters and thats fine, but NOW some know that the Pirates this year were for real. They came to play and Central had to earn their victory.

Belfry was in position to win and not one official had a part in Milliken's pass at the end of the game. You claim there was a block in the back on that play, my question would be where? You are simply not going to get a block in the back called in the box behind the LOS. It happens all the time and is never called. I will say this, there are calls that could be deemed "bad" in every game. As I have matured a little bit I have come to realize it is 99% of the time unintentional. It is very illogical from watching a lot of this game to assert that the officials cheated.

I do think being called an "ass" shows more about you than it does I. I believe I have done a pretty good job lately of being as unbiased as possible. And if I am the cause of you losing respect for the Pikeville football program, then I am truly sorry as I do not intend to represent the program with my remarks the majority of the time. Once again, congratulations on a fantastic season and career.

Did you actually watch the game? on that TD pass Dixon was blocked in the back. Tony Messer caught a pass and was put pushed down and it wasnt called. Hmm? sounds like bad officiating. I personally felt some blocks to the back and they were never called. If you dont believe me. Watch some film or something its 10 dollars for game.

Watch some film or something its 10 dollars for game.I watched some online and recorded the replay. I just revisited the play in question. If Dixon is the player I am seeing, there was contact made in the defensive backfield that resulted in both Dixon and the Central receiver ending up on the ground. What I also see is that the ball is in mid-air when this happens and the contact is 25-30 yards away from where the ball was caught. Dixon may be a very fast player, but there is no human being on this planet that would have been able to go from where Dixon was when the contact (incidental or intentional, unable to tell from any angle) was made in terms of where the ball was and where it ended up. He had absolutely no chance of making a play on the ball and to say he did is simply untrue. He fell at the 6 yard line about 3-4 yards to the right of the right hash at the same time as the ball was passing him 20 yards in the air. The ball ended up in the back right corner of the end zone. No possible way Dixon makes a play on it, so it is irrelevant.
I do not know what play you are referencing with Messer. But to say that two calls that did not go Belfry's way in some way determined the outcome, was horrible officiating, or was cheating is just absurd. It sucks to be so close and you want to find things to say well if this hadn't happened etc... etc... A lot of guys from the PHS 2010 Final Four Baseball team point towards a missed strike 3 call that would have ended the inning before Butler doubled in 2 runs to take the lead and ultimately win the game. But the fact is that is did not cost of the game. It is part of the game and you just need to accept the fact that Belfry played valiantly and was very close to a State Title. It will make this game so much easier to live with for the nest 40 years when you try to sleep on those nights and it is all you cant think about. Take pride in the successes of this team instead of trying to place blame on the official and trying to say that Belfry was robbed. The Pirates played a great game and that is how it should be remembered.

Congrats to central you had a great defense and your offense adjusted well when belfry shut down your run game. I think that's what separates central from belfry, both teams are special in ther own way and both are very well coached but central can run and throw and the only way belfry will ever compete year in and year out with teams of this caliber is our offense has to evolve into at least the 1990's or 2000's. Let's face it I'm a fan of belfry football and haywood but we have to be able to throw more than 3 times a game on a single route pass play. Our defense carried us the majority of the game and the fault is not on the players because 6 kids can't block 10 great athletes playing the run every play. Yes that works against these mountain teams but it won't consistently work against the type of athletes that central puts on the field. If we were still in class AA I would say keep doing what your doing but were not. This offense in AA would have won us state championships in 2007, 2010, and 2011 against that level of competition but not against the centrals of the world. Even jones and Howard would've had there hands full trying to run on the central defenses of those three years and those two were tremendous.

I am a Pirate fan and I agree with this. Gary Runyon blocked the punt and setup a chance to win. Messer caught a pass that put the team in good position. If you want to come down to a single play that cost Belfry a true final shot at winning it was Tyler Williams scrambling into the backfield and taking a sack instead of chucking it out of bounds or to what appeared to be an open man in the flat. Tyler ran this offense like a machine. However he made one bad decision on a crucial play and lost valuable yards with Belfry very close to being in Filed Goal range.
Don't dwell on the TD pass. That thinking only breeds an atmosphere of "we should have won" and causes players not to think they need to work harder in the off season. Look at it for what it was; "We had a chance and didn't execute when we needed it most" and now is the time to get back at it hard and be ready for 2012. Make sure your ready to execute when your in that situation again.

To think any ref in the state of KY cheated"FOR" Central is laughable ! We don't have that kind of money & most people outside the west-end of Louisville could give a fat rats azz if they win or not , they certainly are not going around "cheating FOR Central.
