■ Won their 21st championship, tying Trinity for the state record.

■ Established single-season state records for points (849), touchdowns (121) and total yards (7,516).

■ Gave Dale Mueller his 10th state title, more than any coach in state history.

Injuries? Heard nothing of that. Highlands kids should have stayed on their side of the field.

Knew you would find something to complain about.

This time, for once, I am going to post in serious mode...

I would like to congratulate Franklin-Simpson on an awesome season. Don't be fooled by the score. It could have been much closer, and we are lucky it wasn't. FS came out tonight and played their butts off, like a true underdog and showed everybody that they were the real deal too. We Highlands fans have a ton of respect for your program. Had we (or rather, our coaches and players moreso lol) not had that respect, we would be on the losing end of scoreboard tonight, and bad. I wish all the young men on FS well in life. If they play the game of life with the class and the determination they showed today, they will be just what their football season represents - true winners. All the best to Franklin-Simpson and their coaches, players, and community.

Congrats to Highlands!! Much respect from this Belfry fan. I posted in the Belfry thread about a Highlands fan giving tickets to my family for all three game today as I was walking in to buy tickets. Thank you Sir. whomever you were. You have made me a fan on top of the respect I have always had for Highlands. I did not get to go to the other games because of the 6 hour drive so I paid the generous gift forward to a man who was buying tickets for his family. They had Bluebirds on their shirts.:worthy::worthy:

Students should never go on the other side of the field. No good reason to no matter what you say. Each teams fans are going to see it different and have all kind of excuses.

If adults hit or said anything to them that is also wrong.

Congrats Highlands on your 21st Championship.

Game went as expected for me (42-21 prediction). Sheehan brings an extra 14 pts to the table every game. Since his loss, the Birds avg. in the 40's. I miss the deep routes. FS had good drives, but not sure how much Highlands defensive set up helped. All I kept hearing from the announcers the entire game was "if". If this and if that....Sounded like the Lex Cath announcer. Dale ran the ball b/c it couldn't be stopped and chewed up minutes. No reason to risk 3 and out with the pass when so much is on the line. Birds did what they had to do and that is win. It's a shame we didn't get to see Towles and Sheehan put on a show in WKY....Hopefully in a few years we'll get to see the tandem again.

According tho the Courier-Journal, the 849 points and 121 touchdowns in a season are both place the 2011 Highlands team 3rd in the national high school record books!

I do not know what happened, exactly. But I do know that the kids did not go to the other side to address the F-S fans. They went to the other side at the end of the game because the wall is lower on that side and they wanted to, jump the wall, try and storm the field. It had nothing to do with F-S, but about the kids wanting to celebrate with their team on the field.

Well done Birds! Looking forward to #6 next year!

That is Chris Collinsworth is it not? That's cool. If not, he sure missed his chance at looking just like him.

Thank you Wide Right. That is truly all we were asking for ...a little respect. Those kids worked hard and left it all on the field. Had the fumble been ruled a touchdown (as it should have been) we had a whole different ball game. With that said...no looking back. Both teams had excellent seasons that both towns should be very proud of. We knew that this would be an uphill battle with a team that has consistently proven their championship title worthiness.

As far as Highlands kids running over to FS side...maybe they were trying to get to the field but they were shouting YOU SUCK to their opponents fans. Now, 20 years ago that would have meant a full fledged brawl. As for parents hitting those kids....never saw that but I did see a bunch of parents stand between students and hurry Highlands kids back down to the other end. they should have never crossed that line...it was tacky, rude, and showed little respect to an opponent who fought fiercely to be there.

On another note, Congratulations to Highlands for what looks to be one of the best state championship bids on record. Keep up the good work!

And for Franklin-Simpson....Wildcat Pride never dies!

Congrats to the Birds on #21 and to Franklin-Simpson for keeping things consistently interesting. Best game we've seen in the finals since the move to BG. The Wickware kids were as advertised: TOUGH. Not much size to either of them, but they were a load to bring down. 42-14 doesn't do this game justice when you consider the dropped TD pass and the fumble at the 1 yard line. If those go on the board they change the complexion of the game in a big way!

Franklin Simpson was better than I thought they would be. The RB's were a load. Too much arm-tackling on the part of Highlands IMO. Frankline Simpson could not stop Highlands. FS did everything they could to win the game. Onsides kicks, corner and safety blitzes. Highlands was just better. I did think FS had a few guys "giving the business" after every play. Some cheap shots here and there. But, it is football.

Also, what's up with running the ball out of the endzone on kickoffs? I thought that was an automatic dead ball as soon as the ball goes across the plane of the endzone.
