Stacey Poole hasnât packed up his stuff. Heâs still living in a room with Terrence Jones. He hasnât picked his next college yet.
Almost everythingâs the same, except for the obvious: heâs not on the basketball team anymore after deciding to transfer two weeks ago.
âI know itâs a hard situation right now for him,â Jones said. âHe doesnât like thinking about leaving me and all his teammates heâs with now and his friends.â
But he will be soon, whether or not he and his friends push it out of their minds â which is what theyâre doing for the last few weeks together.
âI try not to bring it up too much just because everybody asks him about it,â Jones said. âSo I just try to let him be about that and just talk about normal life.â
So what did lead Poole to transfer? At first, it seemed like it was his dad, unhappy with Pooleâs playing time, who was calling the shots. Poole insisted on Twitter the decision would be his. But since the announcement â a brief post on head coach John Calipariâs website â Poole hasnât been heard from. So what was it?
âI really donât know,â said Jones, before noting that he felt Poole had a place on UKâs talented team. âI felt he was going to play a lot. It was just him not knowing the plays that much last year. When it comes to talent and skill wise, I feel he had it down. He was just nervous playing and not really knowing the plays that much.â
For Jones, itâs an odd situation. Your roommate of one-and-a-half years has known heâs leaving for weeks. No more basketball. No more hanging out. No more late-night car crashes.
âHeâs one of my best friends,â Jones said. âIâm just trying to be there for him.â

I hope Poole does well. I really think that had he stayed he would have at least been a good contributor.

You should have watched more games. HE came in sparingly.

He was never going to get significant minutes at UK. Good decision by Poole and I wish him the best in life.

Agreed, Poole would never have played in games at UK unless it was mop-up. He's going to be fine. Having UK on his resume will get him into a big school. This is a story about nothing. I wish him luck in his three years of basketball.

I was trying to think of this answer. When was the last time a player was successful after leaving UK?
