Maybe in the eyes of the people who made the preseason polls, but there is no reason this team cant win region.
Smith may be the best point guard in the region and shes only a sophomore, and Anderson and Craig down low is hard to handle.
Harlan really didnt play this close.
Whitley will run threw this district and have a shot at region.
Wasn't some polls showing Harlan as number 2 in the region?

The people who made the preseason polls?
That would be the 13th Region coaches.
Whitley was 15-12 last year and didn't make it to the regional tournament. Being ranked fifth is pretty good coming off that kind of year. They were young though and have a good coach, so they have a shot to be a lot better this year.
Whitley looked good Monday, but the game was very close until the fourth quarter. They aren't that far apart. Harlan forgot about its best player and had a terrible shooting night.

If you read the newspaper article you can see the game was over in the 3rd quarter. Whitley just traded baskets in the 4th and coasted to victory. As far as coaches doing the preseason polls, How could they over-look Craig and Anderson. Craig a Sophmore, is a Beast in the middle at 6' 1" and probably close to 200lbs. and word has it she had a good summer playing AAU at national levels. Anderson is a Senior who has had lots of intensive coaching from her Dad...Larry Anderson. But, with all of this said, I have learned over the years, the game of Basketball is a more emotional sport for girls than boys. You really never know for sure how any game will turn out, you just have to play them and see what happens. I hope the Lady Colonels just keep their heads in the game and if they do......they will be a tough out for any team they face.:Cheerlead

This was from the newspaper article. It was a six-point game going into the fourth quarter and was down to five with about five minutes left.
A 3-pointer by Shawnee Holbrook extended the advantage to nine before Harlan made its last run as Taylor Cochran and Samantha Henson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the deficit to five. Whitley went on a 15-3 run at that point to put the game away. Whitley hit five of eight shots and had only three turnovers in the fourth quarter to complete a strong opening-game performance.

I think Smith from Clay, then Davenport from Harlan County and then Smith from Whitley.

According to the paper, Harlan IND.'s best player was the top player in the region.
Mullins maybe? i cant remember. Whoever she was she got shut down.

Im not even gonna respond, your suffering from lack of consiousness after a loss and are unable to speak.

Clay is always going to get the number one preseason player because they have won region 400 times.
I honestly dont know if Clay can handle Whitley this year.
Are best 2-3 players seem to be underclassmen as well.
The Smith girl may be the best one ive seen at Whitley since Heather Taylor.
I cant remember to many putting up 26 pts against a 2nd ranked Harlan team.

She isn't the point guard.
She was rated No. 1 in the region though.
Whitley did a tremendous job on her and she still scored 19 points.

Im not raggin on Harlan at all.
I agree that the game wasnt a complete one sided blowout.
Mullins is a very good player.
I just feel like Whitley was being heavily overlooked by everyone to start the year out. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact Smith was injured the majority of last year as a freshman and it wasnt known to all just how good she is.
Im excited about this Whitley team. IMHO, Clay is the only team that could beat Whitley in the region this year, and im not so sure that without Jackson, Clay is as nearly as good as they have been in the past.
Im just glad Smith will be ours for two more years after this one.
If she keeps racking up 26 points against teams like Harlan, then id hate to see what she could do as a junior and senior, especially since there is a lot of young talent on this team.

Congrats to Whitley County. Wasn't Harlan ranked 3rd in the Preseason Mountain Top 10?

I think so.
I think they were ranked 2nd in the 13th region.

The only team that could beat Whitley?
Only one game and now they are unbeatable in the region?
Whitley is capable of beating anyone in the region, even Clay, but I think it's doubtful they won't lose at least two or three games in the region. They also play in a very tough district with South Laurel and Corbin, plus Harlan County and Bell County are also solid.

I agree with you.....Whitley will lose some, it's the emotional nature of the beast. Anyone can be beaten on any given day.

I didnt say we wouldnt get beat, i was simply implying that we could beat any team in the region.
And trust me, South and Corbin wont be a problem for Whitley this year.
Harlan County, Bell County, Harlan, and Clay are the only real contenders with Whitley IMO.

You Whitley guys change your story.

Clay is the favorite.
Harlan County, Whitley, Harlan, Bell, Corbin and South Laurel are in the next group. There isn't a lot of difference.
I did see South tonight though and Whitley did look better.

I do think Clay is the only team that can beat whitley this year but the others could pull an upset.
Quit being butt hurt from the loss

lol you mad?
did you think that Harlan was going to come in there and beat Whitley?
Mad that your all star player got shown up by a sophomore?
I think so.....
You lost, get over it. Youre exxagerating everything i say because your mad you lost.
Yes i think Clay is the only team in the region that can beat us, but its possible some others could beat us in an upset.
Can we beat Clay? I dont know, i guess we'll find out.
Either way, you lost, why drag it on?
Hell, you must be a dad or something, nobody else would get this mad over losing in a girls basketball game.
Ill answer any more of your question when we knock you out of region.
